Downplaying the episode numbers makes sense from a marketing standpoint given the upcoming spinoffs. Disney probably won't want people thinking that some films are more important than others.

 

Well since disney took a death star to the EU and canon and the prequels are being swept under the rug by JJ "mainsteam hipster" Abrams. I really hope that by elimenating the numbering system dosent mean that the sequel trilogy will be some losey-goosey ode/semi-remake of the OT.( cough cough his star trek movies cough) And I really don't want episode 9 to end with some cataclysmic event (example: the force coming to life as a sentient Godlike entity with multiple known planets being destroyed killing off potential for any future disney made EU material) and ending with a depressing but hopeful kumbaya moment.

I'm fine with the title. I guess we won't know if it is a good title until we see the content that defines it. Of course, I've never thought of the Force as "asleep."

Older Star Wars fans are forgetting the generations that grew up with the prequels and episode numbers.

Ep VII may have been written by JJ, but remember that the overall outline for the ST was made by George, who has remained as a creative consultant.
JJ isn't going to "sweep the PT under the rug," and considering that he directly told us that he knows it has a large fanbase, I don't think he'd be foolish enough to make that mistake

And don't forget he's only directing TFA. We have a confirmed director for Ep VIII, and I doubt JJ will come back for Ep IX

 

I'm assuming that refers to how it was out of balance before Anakin fulfilled the prophecy

If somebody has actually told you to leave the boards then that is definitely an overreaction. However, there is nothing wrong with calling an opinion childish or calling out someone if they are having a tantrum. It is OK to see childishness and call it childish. (I'm talking about this theoretically, I'm not actually accusing you of being childish).

You can have this last word in this debate though because this is getting too off-topic.

 

If that doesn't make you feel better about the title then nothing else will. Seeing it stylized like that is freakin' awesome.

I still don't see why this title isn't any worse than Attack of the Clones other than that one has had 12 years to grow on you.

 

I grew up with Episode numbers. I'm totally fine with them dropping "Episode VII" from the marketing.

The PT was not something that Lucas got lost in or a failure. I prefer the designs in the Prequels. I am not calling you specifically out I am just getting a little sick of reading this.

If this film is so nostalgia-driven that you can tell it even through the marketing then it could very well contend for worst movie of the saga. I want to see a new movie, not one that is a rehash of ANH or ESB.

To be honest it's not a title that rocks my world, but it is in keeping with what's gone before... and, as titles go, it sits alongside the others comfortably.
