Luke might die with the beard but return as an apparition in the pure form that most represents him at his peak. Remember... just like his father did. #ControversialPosting #WhereIsTheUnlikeButton

Haven't the slightest idea of what you're talking about. Vader cleared turned into Sebastian Shaw in the afterlife! :p

It's such a silly tradition at this point, really.

Actually, didn't Ford want out of Star Wars after Empire? I thought I remember reading that part of the reason that Lucas writes Solo into carbonite at the end of Empire is because Ford had not signed a deal for a third Star Wars movie like the others had. Ford expressed he may not want to come back. In fact I think I remember this was a problem for the writing process of Jedi because Ford still hadn't been signed to a deal for the movie and they weren't sure what to do with his character...

I could be wrong, I will need to look it up...

without wanting to turn this into the Harrison Ford thread mk2 my personal thoughts are it doesn't really matter what Ford wanted in the 80s, I'd put more stock on the fact that right now he's just completed another Star Wars movie and seems to be having a lot of fun with it.

Same with Mark (didn't he at one point take Luke Skywalker off his resume?)

That's because the Dead Jedi Lair has a tragic shortage of razors.

Not the way I read it.

If he didn't come back since they had to sign him up. He did. He wanted to die in action during the last section of the film.

@unicron5 Harrison is still in quite a few movies, just to name a few, 1.Firewall 2. KOTCS 3. Cowboys And Aliens 4. 42 5. Enders Game 6. a cameo in Anchor Man and he just finished filming Star Wars Episode 7 The Force Awakens, so I think Producers and Directors are exactly lining up around the block to cast a 70 year old Harrison Ford. but I agree With you about Harrisons state of mind in 1983-2014 it is totally different now he has a ton of hits under his belt, he works under his own conditions and I don't think he wants to or will get killed off. the good thing about killing off Luke he can always come back as a force Ghost. you can actually make the case that Disney did not buy Star Wars and Lucasfilms to kill off any of the main characters....

No, killing him off without having a wife, kid or trained anyone is a no go. Hard to do that as force ghost.

From the book The making Of Return Of The Jedi (Rinzler) page 8-9:

Once Kazanjian told Lucas he was able to get Ford to come back Lucas says:

Also on page 8 of that same book there are quotes from Hamill on how he thought Lucas was smart to freeze Ford at the end of Empire. That Lucas would just need Ford for one day to show him getting unfrozen at the end of Jedi. So for Hamill to make these comments suggests that people felt (at least Hamill) that Ford didn't want to come back...

I am sure that Ford wanted Solo to die in Jedi as well, but, he also wanted out of Star Wars all together before that, and needed some convincing to come back. But, not much convincing...

Well, the rumor mills of Luke being in self imposed exile are heating up again, and to be honest, I really like what I'm hearing. That he can't control it, and even levitates things during his meditations unconsciously - and lets face it, nobody can rock crazy like Mark...

To keep this Harrison Ford related (even though this is supposedly Mark's thread) - I can see the 'reunion scene' playing out as crazy, wicked awesome....

That would be Legends material now. Qui-Gon dies and he's interacting with the material world over a decade later. I don't think that's an issue.

Yeah he wanted to kill off Han, as Harrison says it "he's got no mama, no papa, no responsabilities". Larry Kasdan agreed, "i thought we should kill off one of the leads, he should sacrifice himself saving the other two and it should be early on so the audience fears for the the other two" Kasdan says in Empire of Dreams.

Maybe they finally got Luke into carbonite and they are "awakening" him.

For what little can be seen, they are very Aragorn-ish clothes. If this is his actual in-film look, they're going for a really scraggly looking Luke.

Good, because that's the only part of the rumor I don't like.

I still say keep Luke alive throughout.

I mean, if you absolutely must kill him off, I obviously prefer Luke live until Episode IX.

But, you know... even then, I'd rather it didn't happen.

Nope, I still say leave the ultimate fate of "The Skywalker" to the imaginations of both the people of the GFFA, and of our IRL audience.

But otherwise? As I say, there's finally some decent-sounding rumors for the role of Luke in Episode VII that I can get behind! :)
