Yeah, but just yesterday he was speculating that she might be a Kenobi. He himself doesn't show much trust in his own source on matters outside of the art department.

I am with MSW podcast right now. After all the stuff we have seen, they are still in the Random camp. Though, and they remark it is just speculating for the sake of doing so, she had to be related, they believe she would not be Rey Solo. They argue their parents dropping her on Jakku goes against the idea of Han and Leia having active roles on the Galaxy's affairs.

Also, when going over fan reaction to the tv spot and how she could be a Skywalker, they speculate one possible way is Luke dropping Rey on Jakku, knowing the attack on the academy is going to happen, and basically saving his girl at the expense of the rest of the padawans. Luke realises this is not the Jedi way and leaves.

I do agree with the Solo part, but the Skywalker speculation does not seem right to me. Luke allowing his academy to be wiped out to save his daughter... Not cool.

Ps: Not finished with it yet, so maybe I will post more later on.

How is Han orbiting Jakku where Rey is any more of a coincidence than Han being in the Cantina when Luke and Obi-Wan walk in? Han had every reason NOT to be on Tatooine at that point because of his debt to Jabba, but there he is casually hanging out and waiting for his next high-paying gig. No reason is given for why Han is on Tatooine in ANH. At least in TFA it looks like Han will have a good reason for being near Jakku. He's trying to get his beloved ship back.

Han's pursuit of the Falcon could be seen as another reason he's sort of estranged from Leia a bit (besides Kylo going off the rails). He's been spending his time tracking down the "fastest hunk of junk in the galaxy."

difference between his own speculation and what someone else tells him they are not necessarily the same. I recall he even said he almost didn't say anything about her and Luke because he didn't really believe it himself (opinion). Has he ever even said his source works in art department that just sounds like what people here assume his source his from. And who cares where it's from ,someone who's been reliable said he was told she's Luke could be true or maybe not, like any rumor.

According to the MSW rumors, she is initially repulsed by the lightsaber and she runs off after learning about what happened in the past. I would say that when Rey consciously chooses to pick up the lightsaber and defend Finn, she is accepting her destiny. If Luke is her father, than she would simply be unable to reunite with him until she accepts her destiny. That's just the way these sort of stories work. ;)

This is part of the established Star Wars mythology, and bloodlines figure prominently in real-world myths and legends. I suspect that the Anthologies films will be more likely than the ST to diverge from the classic mythological tropes and archetypes.

No, this isn't something we need to know, it is something we want to know. All that we actually need to know is: Luke fell in love, they had a child, she died. The story works just fine with that. Luke's mother wasn't even mentioned until the third film of the OT, and even then it was just in passing and simply served as a way for Luke to approach the awkward conversation "oh, by the way, you're my sister and Darth Vader is our father."

If Luke is Rey's father and JJ & co want to keep that revelation for the film, then you have a very obvious explanation as to why there has been no mention of a love interest in any of the new canon material. There is a 30 year gap between ROTJ and TFA. That is plenty of time for things to happen and they've only just started to fill in that gap; it's still very wide open at this point in time.

If Luke is Rey's father and he left her on Jakku, I suspect that he was not intending to leave her there long-term. Either something happened on Jakku while he was away and he was convinced that she was killed, or Luke found himself unable to return. Perhaps he's stranded on whatever world Rey later finds him on. Perhaps the Knights of Ren can sense his presence and are hunting him down relentlessly and there is something on this planet that shields him from their senses (like Yoda on Dagobah) -- if he goes back for Rey, then he will end up leading them straight to her. Over the past couple of years, we have heard a wild variety of rumors regarding Luke: he placed himself in exile, he is going crazy, he cannot control his powers, he is captured/imprisoned, etc. Not saying any of those are true, but there are many plausible reasons why he has been gone for so long. He may want nothing more than to return to his daughter but all he can do is wait for her to find him.

nope I don't like something like that at all and it would be a terrible thing for Luke to do. The same to save a Solo for the expense of all other being killed. [face_worried]

maybe his guilt over saving this one girl is why he exiles himself so that his attachments never explodes in his face again after this one act. It's possible after all ask any parent to save their own child over other people would you really pick the others?? It also plays into Luke's attachments from the OT.

yeah and this would explain why Kylo (who is probably captured) hates him and also Han/Leia if Kylo is their kid.

Coincidences and conveniences are what make what should take weeks into a 2-hour movie.

JJ said that this movie will act as a self-contained movie with hints of the future.

I don't see why it's so difficult to conceptualize that Han and Leia assumed their daughter to be dead and thus had no reason to think that Rey is their daughter. And we as fans won't be miles ahead of Han and Leia until someone actually sees the movie and spoilers it. For most people, any ending will be a surprise.

There's a reason why some people think Rey is Han/Leia's, some think she's Luke, and others think she's neither. If we knew the answer or it was that easy, it would be 100% in one camp or another. It's not so someone's doing a great job in tricking us.

To me isn't her flying the Falcon almost a symboic nod that she's Han and Leia's daughter? Nobody has flown that ship unless they were close to Han. Also why would a Non-Skywalker be positioned as a Lead in the "Episode" portion of the Star Wars Saga? Wouldn't John's character forfill the non-related role? So That would make Rey the decendent. Lucas established this over 6 films. JJ is not going to reinvent the wheel. She's either Han/Leia's Daughter or Luke's Daughter. Obi-Won's Grand Daughter? Could be a possiblity but I think that would be a reach. Again the Saga goes:

    PT - The Parents
    OT - The Childern
    ST - The Grandchildern

When she shot at a dark lord like Han did with Vader or when pulled those controls forward and the Falcon blasted out of the trees. It almost felt certain she was of Skywalker linage:

Kylo Ren's definitely not a Sith. Vader would find his use of the lightsaber to deflect the blast disturbing. :p

Yeah, we seem to be stuck between three points:

    1) In order for it not to be a confluence of events that is galatically improbable, she needs to be Random.

    2) In order for the "generational story" to fit, its best if she's a Skywalker (Yes, I know Leia is a Skywalker, but the PT was Anakin's Story, the OT was Luke's Story...)

    3) In order for the "generational story" to fit, and for Luke not to be the worst father since, well, Darth Vader, she needs to be a Solo.

I know I posted this yesterday, but the closest I can come to encompassing all of the above is this:

Rey is a Solo, studying at Luke's Academy on Jakku. Luke's prize student, his own son, falls to the dark side and decides he needs his father's lightsaber to "finish" what Vader started. Kylo Ren slaughters the academy to get his father's lightsaber, but gets the wrong one (shot from the trailer where Kylo has what looks to be Luke's green saber in his hand). Rey and the Bespin saber are spirited away to safety by someone, but Rey is thought to be dead. Luke goes into exile in shame from his son's actions, can't speak to Han and Leia knowing what he cost them. Han escapes the pain of Rey dying by leaving Leia and returning to the smugglers life. Leia becomes a much darker warrior in her fight with the First Order. (Leia with a super weapon, really?).

So that satisfies everything, and has the bonus of Leia and Han not misplacing their kids like they were car keys.

I love how Rey's hand shakes as she fires at Kylo in that TV spot. One pet peeve I have is when a character is suddenly a "bada**" when need arises, even though they are really a novice (albeit a talented one). Showing that hand quiver reminds us of her vulnerability and it really increases the stakes for this confrontation. Great directing. Great stuff!

Thank you. I'm a member over there and Pomojema still thinks Luke is going to show up in Act III and save the day. Not based on any sources, mind you. He's honestly doesn't know what's going on. He's just a regular mod.

who said he knew anything it's written editorial?
well he did say in one of his articles that sources told him more Luke in flashback which Viral seems 100% on and that other sources said Luke shows up to save the day. So that part is rumor not speculation.

What irritated me about him was how he talked to MSW when he was a member there. I strongly dislike the fans who rage against the source when they dislike the content. Not sure about it but I would say he was the one saying his "sources" had told him about Luke and Act III.

He wrote a completely misleading article once based on an interview that had a paragraph where in the first sentence it referenced Luke and Leia, the rest of the paragraph discussed Han, Chewie, BB-8, Finn and Rey. The last sentence was that "the five of them end up on the Millennium Falcon." He proceeded to say it was a HUGE scoop and wrote an article how that implied Luke was on the Millennium Falcon and, therefore, was not just at the end of TFA. Several of us asked him to take it down because it was a case of horrible reading comprehension, bad math and, therefore, was totally misleading.

One of the big analytical problems people are running up against is the notion that Luke's departure and retreat into hiding is entirely motivated by some personal or emotional fallout from the incident with his Academy. I think what people are sensing is this is inherently unsatisfying, because it is. I have a pretty strong hunch there is more going on in this film. We have the entire element of a Force powered death star inside the ruins of a planet that just exists right now in the information we have, with just about no explanation, exposition, history, or set up. We potentially have pirates, Dark Side Knights, a puppet master that is completely unknown to us (Snoke), these are all things that are going to come to relevance in the story line and have high significance. Luke "saves" his daughter, leaves her on Jakku, apparently promising to return, than realizes this is not the Jedi way so he leaves to go somewhere else?! o_O

I have faith Luke is in seclusion for a good reason, personally I find the suggestion that it has something to do with Rey less likely than it having to do with much of the unexplored story elements that seem to be of great importance, that are yet to be revealed. I think Rey was involved in some way in all this at one point, thought to be lost, and now destiny is bringing her back into game.
