I, Edo Vilsa, think that what appeals to me most is that the jedi are always aiming for the right thing, and with their self-discipline and knowledge, they know where to aim.

This new wave of initiates warms my heart.:D

Feel better Rebecca. We will wait for you, health must come first for all of us.:)

Now that school has ended I reserve the right to make every day a lazy day. At least until work starts.:p

No More 7:00 am wake up calls for me![face_laugh]

Welcome vncredleader to the Guardians of Light. Whether you know it or not you have just taken your first step into a larger world.:ben:

Please if you might, add your membership in this order to your signature as well as your Rank (Initiate) and Force Points (0). Feel free to observe some of our for inspiration. And as Master Adalia has said, stay active in this thread so we can get to know you, and so it will be easier to decide who your future master will be. Also stay alert for future tasks knights and masters may grant so you can earn force points. When you get 25, you will be assigned a Master to train under one-on-one.

    Very good, very good.:yoda:
Four Force points to you Master Vo'Un'Var. Bardan_Jusik (Pts.)

And an Initiate Task Directed at our newer arrivals.
Please located a copy of the Jedi Code and describe what each line of it means in your own words. If you have any questions feel free to ask. And if you have other tasks, they take priority. Complete this whenever you have time.

There is no emotion, there is peace
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge
There is no passion, there is serenity
There is no chaos, there is harmony
There is no death, there is the Force

"there is no emotion, there is peace"
Many people take this line to mean the Jedi do not believe in emotion or refuse to allow themselves to feel them, this however is an unfair assumption. As Ashara Zavros once said when asked about this line "It means the Jedi must be able to think calmly, even in intense situations". The Jedi do feel emotions, they mourn the dead, they feel love, they feel anger, but they are able to avoid being controlled by them. A Jedi must not allow him/her self to lose their cool or be distracted from their duty. They will allow their emotions and feels to guide them at times like Luke allowing his love for his father to save him from the dark side. The point of the line is that duty must be put above ones individual needs. Only one who is truly reserved and in control of their impulses can bring about true justice.

I think it is worth mentioning that Master Windu's interpretation is one I very much agree with. For simplicity I will let his words speak for themselves

“Jedi do not fight for peace. That's only a slogan, and is as misleading as slogans always are. Jedi fight for civilization, because only civilization creates peace. We fight for justice because justice is the fundamental bedrock of civilization: an unjust civilization is built upon sand. It does not long survive a storm.”

"there is no ignorance, there is knowledge"

This line means that a Jedi must seek to gain knowledge and understanding. The galaxy is a strange and unpredictable place, and things are not always as they seem. One must be tempered and understanding. For example the conflict on Orto Plutonia during the Clone Wars was born out of both sides being ignorant of each other, only through the Jedis' understanding was the conflict ended.

"There is no passion, there is serenity"

Pretty much the same idea as the first line, Jedi must not be controlled by impulses and be as calm as possible to bring peace and justice.

"There is no chaos, there is harmony"

This line is referring to the fact that, while the galaxy may seem out of control and random, one must find harmony in that madness and see the will of the Force. For all the randomness and chaos a Jedi has to make sense of it all. Even if the galaxy is random and the Force has no plan but chaos and nature then the Jedi must create harmony and a just society none the less for that is the best way to help the galaxy.

"There is no death, there is the Force"

This line means that the Jedi become one with the Force when they die. Rather than fight death one should embrace the inevitability of it and do all they can to be the best person they possibly can while they are alive.

The Jedi path is a path of self-refinement. This will sharpen your inner self into a sword, ready to expose and cut out the corruption in others. A Jedi who has mastered their inner dark side is a Jedi ready to chip away at the outer darkness. We must be ready to fight the darkness wherever it is, be it on a battlefield or our own enclave. I will fulfill this role through accepting teachings from masters, but never blindly, understanding and voicing implications of our teaching. Indeed, jedi are guards of the light, shining it into dark spots.
ConservativeJedi321, this was for your first challenge, and I think I'll be able to do the second tomorrow.

Sorry I took so long to respond! My WiFi was just turned back on! Curse you DRL!

Anyway...there are three branches of Knights and Masters. Jedi Guardians, Jedi Consulars, and Jedi Sentinels. When you become a Jedi Knight you choose one of the three categories. It will most likely depend on your personality which category you choose.

Jedi Guardians are more of heroes than the Jedi who stand around. They usually carry a blue lightsaber. You may also use the color that you are used to. Jedi Guardians are the Republic's police. They are responsible for keeping the peace and arresting law-breakers.

There are a few categories of Jedi Guardians.
    •Jedi Peacekeepers
    •Temple Security
    •Jedi Starfighters
    •Lightsaber Instructors
    •Exotic Weapons Specialists

If I was a Jedi Guardian, I would most likely be a peacekeeper. Peacekeepers are those who specialize in security. They are all good warriors, but they are more trained in crowd control. They are the law enforcement of the Jedi.

Jedi Consulars are more peaceful than the other groups of Jedi. They use words to resolve issues. Some Jedi Consulars are on the reconciliation council. The reconciliation council negotiates with political factions. If you are a Jedi Consular, you will improve thousands of lives.

    Categories of Jedi Consulars include:
    •Jedi Seer
    •Jedi Healer
    •Jedi Researcher
    •Jedi Ambassador
    •Jedi Diplomat
    •Lore Keeper

If I were a Jedi Consular, I would probably be a Jedi Seer. Seers can see visions from the past and future. They can hear the voice of the Force. They can also feel the will of the Force. They can see events from a distance.

Jedi Sentinels are neutral between Consulars and Guardians. They don't focus on lightsaber exercises or Force meditation. Sentinels have skills that don't require Force sensitivity. Sentinels rarely need to use a weapon, but they still carry a lightsaber. The blade of the the lightsaber is usually yellow. Sentinels also usually carry blasters. They get the jobs that neither Guardians nor Consulars want.

There are a few categories of Sentinels.
    •Slicers
    •Tech Experts
    •Security Experts
    •Jedi Shadows

As of right now, I want to be a Jedi Seer for the Jedi Consulars. It sounds like it would suit me. The Consulars have a deep connection to the Force. I feel like it would be a good choice for me.

Again, I am very sorry that it took me so long to respond. ;)

Excellent work, Padawan Skyla Skywalker. You obviously studied the material thoroughly and put some thought into it. Well done.

You have earned another 4 Force Points. Bardan_Jusik

Since you are interested in a deep connection to the Force, let's continue in a philosophical direction for your next assignment. You have already demonstrated your knowledge of the Jedi Code. Are you aware that another version of the Code exists?

    Emotion, yet peace.
    Ignorance, yet knowledge.
    Passion, yet serenity.
    Chaos, yet harmony.
    Death, yet The Force.

On the surface, these two versions of our Code seem contradictory. Personally, I accept both versions. Your next assignment is to compare and contrast both Codes, and to reconcile the differences. Take as much time as you need; all Jedi know the struggle against DRL is eternal. ;)

Yes I am aware that another version of the code exists. They are both very similar to each other. Alas, they have their differences. The wording is different. The first code states that there is no emotion, no ignorance, no passion, etc. The other code states that those things exist, but they coexist with other things. They use the word yet to explain this. I prefer the first code.

There is no emotion, there is peace.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
There is no death, there is the Force.

I am familiar with both codes though.

    Trial of Courage

Scenario: The Senate has approved for a Jedi to be sent to a Mid-Rim world in order to investigate allegations of corruption. You are the Jedi chosen to investigate. When your examinations go deeper, you realize the corruption has poisoned even the highest ranking officials of said government. The people suffer every day because justice and decency has vanished, replaced by fear and paranoia. You eventually uncover the mystery and confirm the person responsible is not only a double agent for the underground crime syndicate posing as the Prime Minister's chief advisor, but is also a distant cousin of yours.

When you confront your cousin privately, he confesses to his dozens of white-collar crimes and begs you to not to turn him over . In exchange he promises to change his ways and give up all information concerning the crime lords, effectively turning them in and destroying the crime syndicate's power.

There is no emotion, there is peace.
This means that a Jedi, in their in-most being, seek to purge emotion, but detractors forget the next clause. This line means that a Jedi's inner peace fills them up so there just isn't room for anything else.
There is no ignorance, there is knowledge.
Jedi need not know everything, but they should know how. Humility, respect, and patience are nessecaries for a learner, and a Jedi. Jedi also need to be the knowledge, the revealers of wisdom, not hoarders, always ready to teach.
There is no passion, there is serenity.
In speaking on passion, some forget how temporary it is. Passion is simply not substantial enough for a Jedi, whether it's good or bad. A Jedi must not rely on shifting bases like it. I already addressed how, when serenity is achieved, there is no room for passion.
There is no chaos, there is harmony.
Chaos is complete disorder. The Galaxy, as a whole, looks chaotic and unconnected. Harmony is agreement. I believe this is the precept upon which Jedi base our commitment to the republic, bringing the Galaxy into conscious harmony, in which it knows its interconnections and actively tends them. Through the vehicle of the republic, we are trying to bring greater harmony to the Galaxy.
There is no death, there is the force.
Whether you accept those who tell of "force ghosts" or not, this precept is important. It keeps the Jedi fighting who has no chance just as it keeps the sage teaching in spite of his years. The force will always be, just as the Jedi will always be. It lets a Jedi accept death because the force is eternal.
    ConservativeJedi321, hope this was good.

Jedi training is the primary thing that goes on here, though we also have fun by socializing a bit, hanging out offering funny quips or antics, discussing Jedi-like things; and then there is the RPG we mentioned before which is a major extension of the goings on in the Guardians of Light. When you become a Padawan you will probably get more in depth missions, asking you to Role play certain scenario's and such. Things are a little quiet now, particularly as we recently had a large series of Knighting Ceremony's, and many new knights are probably trying to figure out their place now that they don't have to report in for Padawan Tasks every week. Etc. Etc. Things will pick up eventually. Just keep an eye out.:)

    Open Initiate Task

I offer you a hypothetical scenario: One day while out gathering supplies at the behest of the masters you are approached by a being dressed entirely in black, their is a lightsaber on his belt and he is visibly hurt. He is a Sith apprentice. He pleads with you to save him, another Sith has tried to kill him. He makes no indication he intends to abandon the dark side, but he is very clearly in danger. What do you do?

My first instinct is to ask for his lightsaber and then to take him to a safe location. I would make sure that he can't grab for my or his own lightsaber or suddenly attack while I take him there, I intend to help him but need to make sure this is not a trap cause if I get myself killed that may stop our only way of informing the local authorities and Jedi of Sith activity. Trust does not mean one should walk blindly after all.

. Once at a safer place I would ask the Sith who he is, who the person who hurt him was, and why they where here in the first place, but only after treating his wounds with bacta and Force healing abilities. It is right to heal anyone who needs help and this might assist in me gaining his trust. Once he is healed I would make a decision of what to do next based on what he disclosed. If a Sith is close behind him it might be safer to take him right to the nearest Jedi enclave or local authorities, but if the Sith was involved in some plot and taking him to more people would put him in danger then I would send and encrypted message to my master and ask him/her to meet us in our safe location.

If the other Sith is fended off or gone and this Sith is not showing signs of wanting to turn still, then I would bring him to the council and let them pass trial on him. I would make sure local authorities know of him as well in case they have questioning they want to do related to Sith actions and the like.

I first take him and lie him on the ground, I pull out my comlink and call for help, I stay and heal him by his side, after he is fot to talk I ask him to tell me if he is OK, If he says no, I let him rest and continue to heal, If he says yes I ask him what happened. Since he is to ill to fight I see no reason to take away his lightsaber, seeing as that weapon is one with the wielder, I then ask him to tell me why he joined the dark side. I will try to urge him into joining the light, but if he denies I will not grow angry, But mourn for his darkness, when help arrives I stay by his side, and ask him about his life, how he feels about the light. Why did a sith attack hi would be one of my questions, who does he work for and where is his base would be another, after I have asked questions I would inform the council on all the information I gathered.

I would also go back and ask if there are any other sith nearby, I say he will be safe here for now but I will need to take his lightsaber (seeing as he will soon be fit to walk) I also make sure he has access to a bacta tank, and a medical droid will care for him. I ask him for the numbers of sith and how strong they are and if they plan to attack anyone and if they already have..

I would once again urge him to join the light, and if he still refuses I would go and discuss with the council and inform them that his fate is not in my hands, and it is not my place to decide what happens to people, I believe that is their path.

I would heal him, no matter who he was, then contact the enclave, then talk to him, starting with things other than the force. Without letting them ascertain my identity as a Jedi, I would talk with him, asking him about his life before the sith, and how his life and character have changed because of it. I would try to get him to realize that first, the sith don't need him, second, he doesn't need the sith, and third, that the light side isn't weak, or powerless, or evil. I would subtly probe for information regarding other pockets of sith. I would bid farewell, but if he tried to kill me I would keep my light saber handy. I would have also reminded him that he was welcome to join the Guardians of light.
