In Pablo’s book, I’m told, most sectors surrendered to the FO after the attack on the Republic by the FO during TFA, despite the destruction of Starkiller base.

Kylo Ren then has indeed achieved what his grandfather, Darth Vader, could not, becoming the Supreme Leader of a Galactic Dictatorship by tricking Rey into helping him take down Snoke. Though Kylo may have some knowledge of how to rule from observing his mother Leia over the years, he is no Palpatine with an understanding of levers of power, food policy, economy, and trade that will assure him continued authority.

We all saw Hux reach for his gun before Ren woke up, exposing what is likely to be continuing friction between Hux the Military/Governing arm of the First Order and the erratic nature of the new Supreme Leader. The only thing uniting them is the Resistance/Rebels

Kylo is a warrior, in my estimation, unsuited to governing, likely to be protected by his loyal dark side cult cadre of ex-Jedi, the Knights of Ren. It seems inevitable that the Military run by Hux will come into conflict with Kylo and his dark side cultists. The Galaxy could turn Games of Thrones very quickly. For instance, Ren’s inability to govern causing his Military to not be properly feed and armed.

Remember Palpatine never publicly acknowledged himself to the Galaxy himself as a Sith Lord, and hid behind his public persona as Chancellor before declaring himself Emperor. But Ben Solo is known to be Vader’s grandson, and if Kylo is known is revealed publicly by Hux or others, this could help undermine his authority and help recruit more people and sectors to the Resistance/Rebellion’s side, including possible defections from within the FO.

So do you think the Galaxy will fall in line under Kylo? Or is Kylo a doomed ruler before he even begins? Can Kylo adapt to ruling?

Maybe it's because we were told and not shown - But I don't get the feeling the First Order are in charge of anything really...

They took out Hosnian Prime, which was their biggest strike. After that, it’s been about trying to completely take over. They’re close to snuffing out the Resistance.

Hux is such a sleaze coward. I kind of loved seeing him reach for his blaster to shoot Ren. Totally something he'd do.

I agree. It would have cost very little to show holos of garrisons of First Order troops on recognizable world’s like Naboo, Coruscant, Kashyyyk. Etc. to convince us this was the case

However, the opening crawl of TLJ says the FO Reigns. For what that’s worth.

Taking them at their word, it will be interesting to see how Kylo looses his Empire or if he is in the midst of losing it during the opening crawl.

My theory is that Kylo will send the Knights of Ren after Rey to find her and disrupt her training of other Jedi. With the Knights of Ren off on this mission, Hux plots how to rid himself of Kylo, possibly using false intel to bait Kylo into going off to confront Rey himself. Hux then could possibly leak to the Rebels/Resistance the location of Kylo’s ship as he pursues Rey and her New Jedi. Leaving Kylo to be hunted down by both his own First Order troops (or those loyal to Hux), maybe Bounty hunters, plus the Resistance and the New Jedi. With the only possibility of Kylo surviving being his Knights of Ren.

Hux will lead a military coup against Ben. Then Rey will be there to save him, they both fight to take down the FO and will end with their presumed deaths. 30 years later Episode X has some young kids following myths and legends and they will find an old Ben and Rey enjoying their own version of the traditional Jedi exile. Sun rise, sun set

Good point about the galaxy knowing that Kylo Ren is Vader's grandson and therefore may decide that they don't want another dictatorship. Not everyone hated the Empire though, so there will be those who have no problem with Ren being Supreme Leader.

I'm not sure Ren can handle the responsibilities of his new job because of his hot headedness and immaturity. He would be wise to apologize for humiliating Hux and get him on his side. Hux is smart and can help make Ren's rule successful. I don't think that Ren will apologize or that Hux will accept an apology.

Kylo Ren and General Hux are made to look like bumbling fools at the end of the movie. Who would be afraid of these two dopes?

Like the Emperor, the First Order over confidence in the current state of the galaxy, and of the Resistance will end up being the weakness to turn the tide in Episode IX. Supreme Leader Ren has not achieved anything yet because for all the FO destruction, hope still remains.

Let's see their choices: the Galaxy (led by politicians who are not really dedicated to their own people but enjoy their "democratic" games, meaning that they live in self denial (as if they had nothing to do with the Galactic Empire, the governing body of the whole Galaxy for decades), spent years to play for their people's worse fears, and generally were not bothered to resist FO before Hosnian Prime; source Bloodline) can either choose Leia, a talented warrior princes and a failed politician (lost everything when failed to inform the Galaxy about her real origins and parents) who lost her army, or her son who is young, also talented and at least honest about what he wants and it seems he is achieving it. Fantastic choices... based on historical examples I have to say people will cheer Kylo Ren on: they want to be on the winning side, their coward leaders will not risk to oppose him, and if Kylo Ren has any political sense (and genetically he is not just a warrior, his grandmother was Padme for star's sake), he will blame every attrocity on Snoke whom he killed, and HE will be the hero.

Seriously poor Leia can offer nothing more than this: Good people of the Galaxy, support me, because democracy is better although I cannot prove it from the last 50 years, and give power to me because I am a better leader than my own son, I just lied to you for years, sorry for that and I lost to my own son ( whom I also failed to convince about the supremacy of the democratic ways or the importance of the family) miserably because Poe is a hothead but I like him this way...

never got the vibe kylo wants to rule anything, I think what he means when he says he wants to finish what vader started is by snuffing out the light and completely go dark, by killing luke, han, and leia and now rey. I actually believe kylo when he is talking to rey after he kills snoke. he wants the FO and the Resistance to destroy each other and build something new.

I feel this way, too. I don’t think he necessarily wants to be ‘dark’ even though he’s done some very damaging things, I think it’s been all to try and balance between both sides by eliminating one before the other. He found Snoke wrong, found the Jedi (Luke) wrong. Really makes me think they’re trying to introduce the gray in between.

could be I also think it is bc he feels betrayed by everybody, first off just on a dna level he has some strong headed blood running through him. his grandfather is vader, mother is leia, luke is his uncle, and han is his father; all four of those character have been shown to be immature, hot headed, strong willed, whiny (luke), and have some dark tendencies to say the least. he felt abandoned by his mother and father, thought luke was going to kill him, and snoke admitted that he was straight up using him in TLJ, so in my mind he was like you know what lets just set the roof on fire and burn it all down.

He’s very imbalanced. He tried to get Rey to turn. He wanted to wipe out the Resistance on Crait, Leia included. Like and Leia don’t sense any good in him. He tried to kill Luke first with enough firepower that could have taken out the Resistance and then with his lightsaber. He’s not gray. He’s the Son of Darkness.

Making the First Order a threat is something JJ got right and what Rian really screwed up.

So I am assuming JJ will be able to reclaim that sense of danger and threat by using the Knights of Ren, like Kylo’s personal Nazgul to hunt down force users. And showing how terrible the lives of people are under the FO on various worlds.

Since JJ created the KOR, I see him using them.

Kylo Ren taking over is one of the few good ideas of TLJ (is the execution which was sloppy)
It reminds me of those MMORPGs where you can become ruler of the game as an evil young character
Ren has to die in IX

Possibly. Though he has no idea what that “new” alternative is.

There are things in the Prequels worth using. Like revisiting worlds such as Kassyyk, Coruscant, Naboo, etc. Like they do in Battlefront 2.

TLJ switches up the master/apprentice dynamic and I see users posting ‘TLJ is nothing more than a what if version of ROTJ!’. So ridiculous. They do something new and they complain. They do something familiar and they shout REHASH!

    That’s too real for Disney.

Maybe for my Games of Thrones in Space Opera.
There is nothing original in TLJ. The structure is a copy of Empire Strikes Back.

    i.e chase in Space/Jedi training/Canto Bight = Cloud City/Luke sacrifices

Merely what Luke was sent to do in ROTJ used in TLJ.

    Nothing new.
