I am pretty sure statistically America goes zero days without mass shootings. Or at least close to it. A majority of mass shootings don’t get reported for one reason or another. the only ones that do are the ones at schools or involving a lot of victims. And even that is sometimes not true
Maybe true, but this meme was always more about the random, single person rampages than the more typical, all-too-often street gang related violence where assailants strike rivals with complete depravity towards those around them.
It's more a lot of deaths than a lot of victims. There were 17 people shot in a mass shooting on the 13th, for example. The manifestos aren't really much of a new trend, per se. I'm not surprised that streaming has become popular now that it's an option, though. They do often provide a pretty clear roadmap, though, that highlights how radicalized subgroups are creating feedback loops. Anyone that thinks this is tied to something like Rittenhouse isn't paying attention and is whitewashing what's going on. This is the same "Great Replacement" trash ideology that has been driving actions like this for years. And that is a really different beast in some capacity, as the same very overt points come up as each one builds on those terrorists that had come before in a comparatively niche environment. And the factors described in these often really seem to reflect how responses to these don't understand what's going on in the first place as they seem to miss the driving factors in the desire to oversimply these for political capital rather than figure out how to pull the rug out from this innately hateful ideology.
Yeah, Dylann Roof is probably a better comparison than Rittenhouse. This entire Twitter thread is worth a read, despite the random right wing attempts to insert “bUt wHaT aBoUt tHe sUbWaY sHoOtEr” into it.
There's a whole list of comparisons: Brenton Tarrant, Patrick Crusius, John Earnest, Robert Bowers,Phillip Manshaus, Luca Traini, Anders Breivik, Dylann Roof, Anton Lundin Pettersson, Darren Osbourne Though like Roof in particular, part of this is hoping that there will be a backlash to this attack that will stimulate his 'side' to fight more openly. Just as Roof hoped to set off a race war. They want to start an active conflict because they think once open warfare begins, their side will win. And of course: "I was never diagnosed with a mental disability or disorder, and I believe to be perfectly sane" is relatively consistent with there being specific motivations here. This is as explicit in desired goals as can be, including thinking that if this triggers a push against guns, that will encourage more people to 'fight back' and encouraging people to kill other targets, including George Soros, Edrogan, Sadiq Khan, "legal and illegal drug dealers", "anti-white CEO"s that are "race traitors". And, given that this shooting happened, it is entirely likely that it will be successful in encouraging at least one other attack in some capacity at some point in the future. As the other names reflect, the next attack may not be with guns, but it will likely still come because the cycle at work here isn't being adequately addressed.
Good news for Fox News - no overtime trying to figure out a way to spin a Carlson-inspired murder spree, because the top news story at Fox is "Retired cop killed trying to protect others during deadly Buffalo shooting remembered". (Another top headline - "Family thanks firefighters for rescuing American flag from devastating inferno".) Of course, there are other articles regarding the shooting on the site - but you can see the red flag warnings all over it. There's plenty of liberals talking about prosecuting this as a 'hate crime' without discussing anything about why that is. They are careful to mention that "two Whites" were killed, while not mentioning that this was a store that was heavily frequented by African-Americans. And in their short list of reactions by top politicians, they go out of their way to quote...Elise Stenfanik, to show how heartbroken she is.
This point of preparation was quite right: "To minimize the chance of instant death from a CCW holder, police, or general armed citizen, body armor and ballistic helmet that will stop the intended threat will be needed." And they really should be nailed to the wall on obscuring the target selection here. We don't need to even get into the demographics of the victims, or second-hand interpretations of the clientele, we can go right to the source: There is no realm of open interpretation here, it's been explicitly and precisely detailed why he selected the target, how he planned this, and what his motivation was.
Words can’t quite describe the feelings that rose from this for me. Not overly emotional or sadness, but more of… deep resentment towards people who hold this ideology, more than I’ve experienced before. I’m not a stranger to war or death, but I can’t lie: seeing everyday people be snuffed out because someone holds that much hatred in their heart over something as meaningless and arbitrary as a color of skin really made me sick. I’m against the death penalty. Across the board. But this one made me, momentarily, regret New York’s position on capital punishment.
It's endemic, so we just need to learn to live with it. I am curious to see if this being a Taiwanese congregation played a factor in this if the shooter wasn't from the area. But that is purely in the realm of speculation at this point until they have more info on a motive.
I swear, this is like college all over again when I had to specifically say that people should follow the directions, and that if they asked any question, my first response would be to ask if they had read the instructions and if they said no, I would be telling them to read the directions. It's pretty nicely detailed to see what happened here. No need for speculation.
Of course FOX News is going to video games. Can't possibly explore any other theory besides their stupid 'White Replacement theory' (and yes, it's stupid). Especially not that this was a racist, terroristic act.
It's definitely the access to video game guns and not the greater access to real guns that is causing these shootings. EDIT: Especially since the US is the only country on the planet that has video games and guns.
Just want to post this piece in memory of Dr. John Cheng, the person who died disarming the gunman at the Orange County church. Sounds like he was a good guy. https://www.google.com/amp/s/abc7.c...a-woods-dr-john-cheng-investigation/11857537/
It sounds like the political motivation on that one is appearing now as well, though I'm not seeing what exactly was the trigger on that as far as the current situation
Multiple people taken to hospital after shooting at elementary school. I'm sure "pro-life" Governor Abbott will make sure the shooter is treated like he wants abortion doctors treated. Who am I kidding? Once kids are born, he will gladly sacrifice them for "freedom."
Always somewhat skeptical when these stories run this fast and this sparse on details (I'm reminded of the Tennessee school shooting which, in the end, everyone that was shot, all two fo them, were shot by police)
