I keep going back and forth on his outcome, does his perseverance get noticed by the ISB, Dedra? Or does he see the atrocities the Empire commits and joins the Rebellion?

    Yeah.

The story that's building is that alliances are formed from people who don't want to work together, or who are on opposites sides of the same side, in order to take on the bigger threat. We see that with Mon, with the Prisoners, with Luthen and Saw. It's possible that Syril will join up with Andor.

And at times I feel sympathetic to him. Not totally. But a little. There's almost an Anakin to Palpatine relationship between him and his Smokes 3 packs a day unapproving mentor-mother.

BUT...who knows. It's possible that doesn't even happen this season. It's possible that he decides to pursue Andor on his own because no one's listening to him. It's possible he ends up in prison just as Andor escapes. It's possible he's a space fascist through and through and won't be happy til Andor is dead.

normally, I'd be completely against syril joining the rebels. Its been done so many times in SW that it starts to feel stale and cliche. However, given the show's penchant for character building/development, imagine a full arc where Syril ends up jettisoning everything he's ever stood for and joins a group of "terrorists" who are actually fighting for justice. Imagine how relentless Dedra would be after him. Imagine how betrayed and disgusted she would feel if he turned after they had a voracious love affair. That would be a far cry from the recent era where villains just join the good guys because someone said their name or something.

Great episode. Great last scene. Last exchange between Cassian and Kini (prison boss man) was *chef's kiss*. @};-

Senate scene was also amazing and gave me goosebumps. Reminded me of the prequels so much.

The ongoing segment "Cereal with Syril" isn't doing much for me. If I see one more space cocoa puff...

I can't help but feel like this was the definitely the best episode of the entire season thus far, which even I find hard to believe when I just gave the last episode 10,000 out of 10. Luckily Melshi is in this one too so 12,000 out of 10 it is.

    A 7 out of 10 for me.

Cassian's subplot in the prison was fascinating last week, but I was bored with it this week.
I think I am officially infatuated with Vel, she is my favorite character in this show along with Mon Mothma.
My favorite scenes in this show are always the scenes on Coruscant.

She is already one of my favorite villains, in any series/movie/franchise. Written impeccably and acted flawlessly.

Love the offhanded mentions of new important rebel figures, who could very easily become major players in future series, replacing the characters killed in Rogue One.

Bor, I was literally shaking at the end of my first viewing (I've watched it 4 times). I never though I would see anything quite like that interrogation scene in a Star Wars show/movie. It was absolutely outstanding, frightening and so full of suspense. Easily right now, this show is the epitome of everything I've ever wanted in Star Wars.

A spiritual successor series to Andor by the same team set during the OT is at the top of my Star Wars wish-list alongside KotOR 3 (no I will not let go).

A heel realization just doesn't jibe with Syril's character arc. Yeah if he were in the room where Bix was being tortured he would play the token good teammate. He demonstrated those tendencies trying to bring Cassian in during the raid on Ferrix. Although Syril didn't recognize any of the same in Cassian for sparing his life.

Syril is supposed to be a well-meaning, do-gooder with some morals. But Syril lives and breathes the Empire. He thinks he can be important to the Empire. But is just a cog. I had thought Dedra might screw up and give Syril his chance but since the only initiative he has taken is developing an unhealthy crush on her. I think Syril's break is going to be when it finally kills him. This is the being evil sucks trope. And Dedra's in on it as well.

Dedra is full of Imperial arrogance even though she is nuanced, cautious and hella smart. She has no idea about the players she is dealing with on the other end. I know another character who was hella smart but was no match for the other player he was up against. His death was probably the most pathetic in the franchise. I can still see Dedra going in a way that parallels Syril. Success and standing out are only rewarded so long as she succeeds. Once she doesn't that may kill next.

Cassian is dangerous enough on his own and someone is going to realize they had him in prison the entire time. Who's head is likely to roll for that? The person in charge of the investigation. Doesn't matter if Dedra can't possibly figure that out with the info she has now. And Cassian is going to have plenty of incentive once he rocks up on Ferrix after the prison breakout and sees what happened to be dangerous to any Imperial officers he can get his hands on.

On top of that, it's not clear to me if the ship the ISB intercepted has something to do with Luthan's planned raid or if its part of Saw's group.

Seems like there was a stealthy but significant time skip during this episode. Ulaf looked older and frailer in each scene. I don't think this was meant to be a rapid decline but over the course of a few years. It probably took that long for the first prisoners to reach the end of their sentence and get recycled back in. "Shut up and don't talk about it"... this is pretty much a demonstration of how Luthan's strategy for Rebellion works. Kino was perfectly content. But now that misery and suffering have built up actually because of Aldani. People are more likely to Rebel. In this case. The prisoners led by Cassian are going to pull out all the stops to escape. I wouldn't be surprised if the prison factory is blown up by the end of it along with whatever they have been making.

Mon Mothma really seems to be wasting her time in the Senate. Talking but no one listening, they are practically putting her on mute. Even her own daughter does that. I wonder if Mothma and Taye's relationship was a little more than a fling. And Vel is their daughter.

That blue milk was in Rogue One. It's canon. :)

That was Anton Kreiger's pilot and ship I think.

Not even close. Krennic oversaw the construction and successful testing of the Death Star. He had no fear either.

The pilot spilled the beans on the raid that Luthen was trying to recruit Saw for, although I’m not sure Luthen did any of the planning himself, he just knows the people who did. They are now walking into a trap, which from Saw’s point of view will probably justify his initial inclination to stay out of it and from Luthen’s point of view will probably justify his argument that they needed Saw’s help.

Thanks for the clarification. I found the volume was really low on the dialog in this scene even with it cranked. I turned on subtitles.

Still we can see how many players Dedra and the ISB are really dealing with. The prison breakout is going to have fall out as well.

Side note, "Steergard" and "Spellhaus" are really cool location names. They're not necessarily traditional Star Wars names but they don't sound out of place either.

I'm pretty sure it was in ANH. 1977. Can't get much more canon than that.

What agreat episode! It's all building up to bit of a showdown or three. A great spy-/regime-/resistance-thriller through and through!

Thinking of the depiction of Imperials shown here, this episode made me think of all those background Imperials in RO who stood on the bridge of the Death Star and watched the "test" killing thousands of people.

The Imperials are really being given a story as to how they can be so chilling and inhumane.

    - I'm no human cultist by the way. :)

Well we can agree to disagree. I think it would have been terrifying with that, and also showing that it was a technology particularly developed for mindprobe interrogation while actually showing it be successful, which in turn would further enhance the scene with Leia in ANH bolstering exactly how strong Leia is. But to each our own [face_peace]

Oh that's cruel. Have you submitted you application to the ISB?

I sincerely hope not. She *must* become the director of the ISB after Yularen buys it on DS1.

The acting in this series has been superb. I can't think of a single actor/character who's been questionable on any level.

    Ugh. Sigh.

Krennic is still, for now, 1A for me, but Meero is now a ver close 1B. Both are just so *real*. Krennic in an everyday sort of way and Meero in a more... historical... sense.

Oh, yes please. There are what, 3-4 years between ANH and ESB? So much OT timeline to play with and more opportunities to find out what Mon Mothma was doing during the first two films. If she survives this series, Bix would be a good character to get some focus, as a tie to the Andor/Rogue One side of the Rebellion.

And with Gorst and Kreeyger and they really are going all-in with the Germanic-sounding names. So fitting.

    Thank you.

Interesting. wasn't aware that was blue milk. if you're talking about the scene where Luke sits down with aunt and uncle for a meal shortly after cleaning the droids. I wasn't sure what that was. It was an evening meal. They made it clear in Andor with the cereal. Even in Rogue One it was just sitting there, not being used, but the jug was clear see though. In A New Hope it was translucent, and you only got to see it for a second as Luke poured it. I didn't notice it was blue at all.

Huh! That's interesting. The blue milk from ANH is legendary.

I also like those. And the feel of British intelligence agents discussing them. This is a European spy thriller in space and I am loving it!

I like it, though I suspect he won't live long enough to get the opportunity to become a rebel officially.
