Challenge National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) 2023 | November Word Race - You did it!

With a 1194 word chapter I was able to complete a WIP that I had since 2020

Which brings me to a total of 5611 words written this November!

So I have crushed my November Word Race goal and am a very proud devilinthedetails

 

I wrote an additional 1982 words for my entry in the Remember, Remember the 17th of November Challenge.

Bringing my grand total for November up to a very respectable 7593 words

 

I originally hoped to write to the end of a section before posting my next word count, but that didn’t quite happen, so I’ll just post one now; it’s turning out to be a slow word race for me for one reason and another. I’ve managed 860 more words since last time, bringing me to 3103.

@ViariSkywalker I enjoyed those videos from Abbie Emmons; she makes some really great points! I especially think she’s really onto something with the concept of “redefining pain” during the writing process. Thanks so much for sharing!

EDIT: I have now written to the end of said section and am pleased to add 276 words to my total to make 3379.

It's so inspiring to see so much progress being made - in big steps and little! Now that we're over the half-way point for the month, how is everyone feeling about their goals? What do you find yourself working on - or wanting to work on, before the month is through?

As for me, I had a bit of a dud week for writing to start, but between yesterday and today, I managed to bump up my total to 16,438 words, which I am more than pleased with!

I LOVE THIS! Thank you so much for sharing. I just may have to give those writing sprints a try!

 

A short oneshot of 582 words for the latest OTP Challenge carries me to the grand total of 8175 words.

It definitely is inspiring to see such progress being made by everyone. Every word written is a victory!

My goal is interesting because I normally set it at 5000 words because I feel like my average number of words per chapter (if we count oneshots as chapters which seems best for my calculation purposes here) is somewhere in the 1000-2000 word range so something like 3 for 4 chapters written in a month where I know I will be a bit distracted by my birthday and American Thanksgiving seems reasonable to me. But then I almost always seem to end up exceeding it. So maybe next year I will take the bold move of upgrading my goal to 6000 words

I also find it interesting in general that my writing production does seem to rise in months when I am working toward specific writing goals. Whether with word count goals as with this November Word Race or the WIPmonth. Or with deadlines associated with specific writing challenges like the Kessel Run Challenge or the Angstober event. Maybe it imposes a certain sense of beneficial order on my otherwise chaotic muse.

I am probably most pleased with the fact that I have been able to write chapters for three WIP's (and even managed to finish one WIP that I had been chipping away at since 2020 which feels like a huge triumph to me given that getting myself to finish longer WIPs is a big battle for me) and I probably most hope to write another chapter or so for one of my WIP's. Though we will see if that ends up happening since soon it'll be Thanksgiving (and I'll definitely be doing some cooking for that!) and after Thanksgiving November seems to disappear really quickly!

My progress hasn't been steady in the sense that I have been regularly able to write X number of words every day, but I kind of feel like steady isn't really my muse's style in general. Uneven bursts of inspiration seem more suitable to my muse's fickle nature. Which is why my progress is characterized by random bursts of great productivity and inspiration that even I can't predict. Some days I write nothing. Other days I can write 500 or 1000 words. It also can depend a lot on what else is going on in my life outside of writing. Certain life events are going to diminish the time and energy that I have to dedicate to writing, and I have to accept that even if I don't always like it.

But overall I couldn't be more thrilled with my progress this month, and hope to make a little more before the month comes to a close

Up to 4040! Very glad to arrive at the point of having (just) under 1000 words left to write in the month, especially with US Thanksgiving approaching. ( Ack!)

The first night of my Thanksgiving break proved to be good for my muse.

I wrote 1575 more words tonight.

Bringing my November total up to 9750 words.

So now the big question is can I pass the 10K words mark this November?
