You know how it is: you browse a streaming service, you see a title that's got a high rating, you decide to check it out - only to find you strongly dislike it. It happened to me the other day with the title "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel". Ugh. There was just nothing there but a huge waste of time. This morning I was playing some Bowie, and afterward Spotify started playing Fleetwood Mac. I never want to hear Fleetwood Mac, Spotify. There is never a situation in which I want to listen to the classic album "Rumours". I don't like it. I think it's boring, Spotify. Why isn't there an option that says "never play this artist again"? What's a critically acclaimed title you dislike?
I'll lead with Gone with the Wind, Wizard of Oz, Citizen Kane, 2001 and The Godfather. I think those are all critically acclaimed usually.
Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) - Second worst best picture winner of the ‘10’s Joker - I liked this a whole lot better when it was called The King of Comedy. A of textbook example of knowing how to play the notes, but not the music.
Joker isn't critically acclaimed. It's got a 69% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes (and 59% from metacritic). That's at best critically accepted.
It got nominated for 11 oscars including Best Picture and Best Director (will always be pissed that Phillips made the cut while Greta Gerwig wasn’t even nominated for Little Women). I say it counts.
Oh, that's a good one to include, Little Women (critically acclaimed - 95% on RT and 91 on Metacritic)
I’ll just go ahead and say everything. It’s not true but that is the eventual arc of a thread like this.
Everything, Everywhere All at Once Birdman Moonrise Kingdom The Big Lebowski (yeah, I only first saw it recently and didn't get what the big deal was). Virtually any song released in the past two decades.
I liked the first few episodes of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel. But I agree that show got boring quick. For the most part I can't stand tv sit-coms. Anything like ... Everybody Loves Raymond, or what have you and I just want to rip my eyeballs out. Also in the beloved snack food category; Oreos.
I will always make fun of Gone With The wind, for being a pretentious, lame-*** concept even without, but especially with, it's crappy allegiances. I'm never going to give a **** about plantation owners' personal life drama.
I don't care for any FromSoft game. They all look the same. I've never played one and likely never will.
I can't because my reflexes just aren't good enough. The Jedi games prove you can make accessible Soulsbourne games... But FromSoft doesn't care. Also I like games with stories and characters and such and those aren't that.
Going after Star Wars and Gone with the Wind and Titanic is going straight to the top - arguably the three most popular movies of all time. Gone with the Wind is problematic for its stupid lost cause bs and casual racism but it was also the number one movie of all time for 4 decades.
That thing you're emotionally attached to. Yes, that one. I hate it and I hate everyone who likes it. Sorry.
