Lucasfilm has been wanting to do this for a long time.

There was a RUMOR floating around a couple of years ago that Rian Johnson's trilogy was going to be about it. The rumor said his first movie was about a young girl/princess on a remote planet who starts discovering that she can move things with The Force just as the galaxy starts getting smaller with the first hyperspace lanes opening up.

The era is the Dawn of the Jedi and James Mangold says its about the first Jedi. The first force user would be 35 000 to 100 000 years back. As we know from canon and legends force users existing long before 25 000.

Yeah and I think they already said that Mangold’s movie specifically is set in the 25k BBY range. But that still goes against his claim that this movie is about “who discovered the force.” Maybe that was just his initial pitch to Lucasfilm, and then the story group explained the canon to him and helped him to rework the story.

I thought that rumor was about the Benioff & Weiss trilogy, no? Or maybe they were gonna do the first Jedi, and Rian was gonna do the first force user.

Pablo Hidalgo and Dave Filoni probably explained to him the little lore that was in this era. Like Mortis Gods, whills and such like nightsisters and Zeffo. Rakata infinate Empire.

Interesting. Especially since “They” is a very credible source.

    I hate to say it

but if dawn of the Jedi is cancelled, it was for the best

the Jedi don’t need an origin and we already know too much about the Sith already

ostrander did the Tho-yor for a reason

How we barely know anything about the sith. We dont dont know too much of anything. And there is nothing wrong with origin stories. It might break their mysteries but thats the risk when telling origin stories. And this is 20 0000 years before the Sith was born.

Star Wars has the vaguest lore possible, so I don't mind more origin stories if they're written well

I hope that mangold’s comments about how the word “Jedi” probably ain’t gonna be in the movie ends up being true

in fact, I hope that this movie if it happens is more like Prometheus than the PT

    creating more questions than answers

I think its a valid point. I also have a thousand questions about what this movie will be about. But i dont really need to get most of them answered. And origin stories can be boring. I dont think this will be «origin movie formula» though. And its about characters we know nothing about for now. Taking away all mystic surrounding the Force would be wrong, but i feel Mangold is a filmmaker that has little interest in making a movie full of exposition and explanation. Disney, probably yes, when they are playing safe and dumb, but Mangold should stay clear of that. I am hopefull.

The key to success in this movie is not mentioning or even hinting at anything like "midichlorians."

The key to success is to make the movie into a movie about an archaeologist covering the conflicting stories of the Jedi origins(tho-Yor of legends, religious scholars of the new hope novelization, and the prime Jedi) and make it an anthology film

Thats a more modern take from the Jedi. We might get some small hint at the living and cosmic Force. Explain the difference and why midichlorians are not really controversial

Lol. Lucas probably has it written down in the contract when he sold Lucasfilm to Disney. Dont ever mention the midichlorians again. Its my idea. And mine only. Nobodys touching it..

True. It was just a bit of fun and irony. And it does not mean they can change it from Lucas concept though. We have to wait and see what they come up with.

You have to remember that this is going to be one stand alone movie ( i hope for sequels of course) so bringing in lots of lore that the general audience never has heard of, could be risky. And you do not have time to explore every idea «behind».

I think a short scene explaining the force like Obi Wan Kenobi in ANH and Luke Skywalker in TLJ will work well
