Andor Dedra Meero

Perhaps the funniest scene in all of Star Wars. When they cut to Syril on the bed, I literally spit out my drink.

And this exchange was the best.

Deedra: We didn't lack for anything.
Eedy: Except a mother's love.
Deedra: We didn't know what we were missing.

 

It felt right up there with "charity begins at home" and "all the good ones are taken."

 

Eedy certainly follows many of the principles of the 'Hawksian Woman', she won't back down to Dedra.

 

Seemed like she backed down to me? She completely changed her behavior and started acting more respectfully to her son.

 

I think she was utterly flabbergasted that for the first time in living memory someone stood up to her and didn't back down. Hopefully she'll get over the shock, regroup, and mount a counteroffensive. I'll have popcorn for it.

 

Dedra vs. Eedy was one of the greatest showdowns in Star Wars history. Way more tense and entertaining than Anakin vs. Obi-wan, and right up there with Vader vs. Luke.

 

I hope Dedra cooks and eats her.

 

She'll come back, it's just her usual counter of Uncle Harlo threat was blown out of the water.

 

I dunno , Dedra could be in trouble here...

After this humiliating exchange, Eedy learns about the dark side of the force. It’s Eedy force-choking Dedra in the trailers.

 

I'm glad we got that piece of information regarding Dedra's background. The idea of Sly Moore and Sidious Palpatine putting various people (Force-wielder or no) in an orphanage actually makes me upset in the figurative sense.

Why? Well, Dedra is a person. Yes, she's a fascist and I don't agree with her actions in Season 1. I doubt I will in this one. But the idea of people doing that to children...especially to cis female kids or any gender...it really doesn't matter...makes me upset. This is one reason I despise Sidious and his lackeys. He wants to shape kids and teenagers into light copies of himself, which is...messed up. It mirrors real-world human trafficking and indoctrination. So, yes, I am comparing Sidious not only to Hilter himself but to freaks like Joseph Kony who forced children to populate his army in Africa. That's not what Sidious is doing with the kids he forces to become Dark Jedi, spies, or what have you. But it's not that different.

Therefore, this is my view. Dedra may try to get out of the totalitarian system. She might not do the right way, but now that I know this, I say, "Long live the Rebellion." I mean, our old Expanded Universe gave us plenty of reasons to dislike His Imperial Majesty, the Emperor Palpatine. But the Disney EU gives us more reasons in its own way.

Eedy and Luke as a couple is a terrifying prospect. Make it happen, Lucasfilm.

so on the subject of Dedra's age - Denise Gough is 45. Now of course that doesn't mean Dedra is 45 but still I don't see how she could be young enough to have been raised at an Imperial Orphanage.

The writers must've worked out her backstory, they're not daft, but they did have her say "Imperial Kinder-block" and they knew we'd pick up on it, so ... ?

 

With jokes in Andor being good in general, Dedra's hilarious dry humor in season 2 is really a stand out. Also because of that she starts to remind me more of Seven of Nine.

Also people saying the parents are dead...she did not say that right?
She says "my parents were criminals, they were arrested, I grew up in an imperial kinderblock since I was 3"
Order 66 was what, 19 BBY? I had at first thought her parents could be jedis or early rebels that fought against the rise of the empire but we are now in 4BBY, that yould make her 18?
Could they have been separatists? And she sees the Republic and the Empire as one and the same thing?
But even then she would still be too old right?

I still think it is something interesting and that the "criminal" parents will end up being someone not really criminal and maybe close to the rebellion and still alive?

I keep thinking she might have be "conditioned" and that's why she has her dates wrong ( thinky she haas been with the empire since she was 3 which is impossible) and she might have been snatched at the time of order 66?

I keep having this idea she could be Luthen's daughter.
That Luthen's wife, her mum and a Jedi was killed and the daughter ( could have been a teen at that time) snatched from them? I know it sounds dumb but i always had the impressin that:
1) If Luthen is not a renegade jedi disconnected from the force ( I still haven't ruled that out) he at least had a close relative who was ( and also doesn't Andor say in Rogue One he recognizes someone using the force because he saw that in the past or something?), that kyber crystal and that saber hilt looking walking stick are clues and that monologue fit deep with that...
2) He had a reaction to people mentioning Deedra ( tha blond ISB officer) and when he saw her in the streets in Ferrix that I don't know, made me think he knew who she was or he had some sort of resonance with her or knowledge?
But I am probably wrong and I know a loto of people would hate a force sensitive/user showing up in Andor ( I would not if made that way tbh)

 

Unless........ these "Imperial Kinder-blocks" were established by Palpatine long before the declaration of an Empire. He may have been planting Imperial loyalist seeds, in the same manner as raising a clone army long before the start of a war.

 

I'm assuming the simple explanation, it was an ordinary orphanage at the time that was eventually rebranded as an Imperial kinderblock

 

I suspect somebody in the Lucasfilm continuity arm may have flagged it during production, but the idea that Dedra grew up in an Imperial orphanage from infancy after her parents were convicted as criminals was simply too delightful a character detail to let canon get in the way.

I really think you all are taking it way too literally. It was called an Imperial kinderblock most recently. It was called something else before (when she first went in), but was basically the same thing. She referred to it by its current name, rather than give an irrelevant speech about the history of the program.

 

Dedra said her parents were arrested when she was three. And that she was raised in an Imperial Kinder-block. But she didn't say she entered the Imperial kinder-block when she was three. Just that she was raised in one.

 

I see Dedra as no more the actress' age than I do Cassian and Diego's. Dedra is supposed to be a young, ambitious and eager to climb the ladder. I doubt the writers see such a big age difference between Dedra and Syril and you'd possibly place him in his mid 30's.
