I am kinda 50/50 on it. It took me out but i hope we can move beyond deepfake cgi. I like us toæo recast but also understand why some dont like it and find it jarring :p

Maybe, lol. But i am tired of just these random deaths. I dont feel for these characters that barely get anything. And Luthen is like the Rebellion Palpatine, he wants Ghormam to burn brightly.

I just realized that Vel instructed the Ghormans to not bring blasters to the heist and the incompetence of the guy who accidentally shot Cinta as well as Vel's anger at him is even more pertinent to me. This show is so good when rewatching.

Also always LOVE seeing the Senate building and chambers.

One thing I really liked was the thematic echoes from season 1 of Dr. Gorst not remembering Bix. The Axe Forgets.

That Ghorman dude was being deliberately defiant, simply because Vel chewed him out: paraphrasing, Vel said, don't think follow instructions (no one should carry a firearm) a complete and utter idiot... I hope we see his ultimate demise on Ghorman.

When I was in the military, I met guys like him. Thats why I signed up for the special forces so I would not be around idiots like that... who don't follow instructions but think they are the smartest person in the room....

I hope Jimmy Smitts is ok. I have a bad feeling about his being absent from the series.

I don't see how the role can be bigger. He's dead on Dexter. He'll return only as a figment of Dex's psyche.

I wasn't sure what to make of Syril's reaction at the end of the last episode. Is he starting to feel something for the Ghorman people? Also what is it that Dedra and her boss are keeping secret from Syril? I'm guessing it's that the Empire is willing to completely destroy Ghorman? Perhaps they don't think Syril would be cool with that?

Yeah, Syril doesn't realize that the whole operation is about possibly destroying Ghorman, if necessary.

As for Syril's feelings about the Ghormans, I'm not totally certain either. I thought perhaps he might have some empathy for them, but he's so selfish and willing to do almost anything to rise.

I heard someone say that ultimately he believes in right and wrong, so genocide is not something he would be on board with. I'm really uncertain if he's really that moral.

According to the article, Gilroy thought about casting the guy as Bail's cousin, but couldn't decide whether to name him Coy or Vance. So, he just did the recast of Bail instead.

Syril seems doomed to end up a poster child for naively and loyally following a government whose propaganda says what he wanted to hear only to be destroyed by the realization he had supported wholesale evil after it's too late.

The Emperor may as well have said "Young fool. Only now... at the end... do you understand" to Syril Karn, just as much as to Luke.

By the end of episode 9, we're going to have full scale TV forum wars on which actor is the better Bail. We should all prepare for the violence and perma-bans that will follow.

I think it would be better for him to live, so he can carry his mistake with him forever. Cinta deserves to haunt him for longer than a few days.

Syril has a moral code, but that doesn’t make him moral. It’s entirely possible his moral code justifies genocide pretty handily. Which makes it all the more chilling that he knows how to pretend it doesn’t. I didn’t expect him to be such a good undercover operative given his clear Javertian inspirations. Javert’s moral code revolves around the state, so he can justify pretty much anything, but one thing he can’t do is lie. He doesn’t even try. When he goes to spy on the revolutionaries, he tells them who he is when they ask. Doesn’t even bother with a cover story. Now Syril seems like he would at least try to lie, but I didn’t expect him to be so good at it. Javert would never call propaganda what it is, even as part of a subterfuge. The fact that Syril can tell his mom that Space Fox News is rotting her brain, while secretly working to destroy the Ghormans, suggests Syril has fewer scruples than we thought.

I liked Lonnie getting more Screen time and showing his intelect. Being friendly with the new recruit and the older senior officer. Covering Kleya and any blame on Gorst death will be on the new recruit

I find the bail organa recast a bit concerning. I get that scheduling is a thing that can get in the way. But why would you write it not knowing if you could get the actor? Isn’t that usually how this stuff works in TV and Film? In this Disney era I’m surprised such issues can come up for a tv show with a good studio backing.

What does this mean for future uses of the character? Has Smitts been replaced? What a strange avoidable inconsistency to introduce.

Luke, Anakin and Rey: “Nooo! Revenge is not the Jedi way! Do not give into your anger!” *sad John Williams music plays*

This recasting-phobia is something that I will never understand. There are plenty of other sagas where it is done regularly and complaining about it is not even a thing.
But with SW specifically whenever for twenty seconds a new face shows up there is a massive backlash every single time, even by people who otherwise tend to be dismissive toward critiques of SW content of any other sort.
