Ventress may be a fan favourite of Dave and maybe that is why he brought her back.
He may had the idea in Star Wars Resistance of her trying to kill Kylo ren.

Nyx Okami was Asian, and he was voiced by Matthew Yang King, an Asian-American.

You’re right. Kylo Ren, Luthen Real, Cal Kettis, Orson Krennic, General Hux, Brasso, Wilmon Pak, Erskin Somaj, Jod Na Nawood, Galen Erso, are all LGBTQ nonwhite women.

It is also true that pre-Disney Star Wars did not have a majority straight white men so Disney should have corrected that by making sure that all the main characters were straight white men, and there were zero main characters who were nonwhite, female or LGBTQ, going forward.

Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo should have never been brown LGBTQ women. Only straight white male characters in my star war.

A lot of the Disney straight white men that you name are villains, while GL's OT cast are heroes.
Do you see the discrimination here?

Not sure what any of this has to do with Tales of The Underworld but I guess both sides of the woke / anti-woke debate can’t help themselves.

Until we get to the point where nonwhite, women, and LGBTQ characters are equally represented, no.

Get back to me when the sum total of all movie characters across film time has an equal representation of straight white men, women, nonwhite people, and LGBTQ people, and then if after that point there is a greater promotion of white men as villains and nonwhite, women and/or LGBTQ people as heroes, then and only then you will have a point about discrimination.

Making an effort at equal representation after decades of promoting straight white men and only straight white men is not “discrimination,” because the definition of “discrimination” is not “no longer being promoted above others 100 percent of the time.”

It needs to be addressed, and closed out, so that the absurd notion that equal representation of women, nonwhite people and LGBTQ people is “discrimination” or that straight white men are being “picked out” is never allowed to run free and go unchallenged.

It has already come up regarding Quinlan Vos’ race and it came up in the Homosexuality thread as well. It will come up again relating to this show if viewed as acceptable.

Pretty sure Nyx was Asian, not white. His last name is Okami and his voice actor was Matthew Yang King. Still not seeing the problem here.

Because maul son of dathomir and dark disciple are such big and significant parts would it not make sense to have them animated rather then just leave them as comics and a novel ?
How likely do you think it is just those get animated as mini series or something?

That must be why they hire so many of them to write their stuff. Dave Filoni, Jon Favreau, Gareth Edwards, Tony Gilroy, Ron Howard, Lawrence Kasdan, JJ Abrams, Rian Johnson... And I'm just talking about Star Wars. Disney doesn't "hate" white men, you just hate when white male characters aren't centered in the narrative. And speaking of white characters— Obi-Wan is a white man. Cassian Andor is played by a white Latino man. Han Solo's younger self is played by a white man. Din Djarin is played by a white Latino man. Cal Kestis is a white man. And these are just series/film lead roles. White men are by absolutely no means underrepresented in Star Wars, either as characters or creators.

EDIT: Just realized you said "straight." So Obi-Wan's out. Regardless...

As much as I've enjoyed the concept of the Tales series, the Underworld duo was the weakest so far, particularly the Ventress story. The best scene was the opening of her first episode, which felt genuinely mysterious, mournful and haunting. But frankly, I just could not get on board with her arc, which felt like it focused much more on the Jedi than on the underworld. I will say her fight with the Inquisitor of the week was quite entertaining, and second episode's main set piece was pretty inventive. I do think her search for Quinlan and the Path was a solid motivation, but for the two not to reunite in some capacity felt unfulfilling. I don't think they should have necessarily remained together, but to have a proper goodbye could have felt more cathartic. Also, I didn't think much of the kid who accompanied Ventress. They never really had an organic rapport that made the conclusion feel worthwhile.

Cad Bane's arc was much better and in line with the better arcs of the Tales series, particularly the second episode. I think there were some really compelling twists there that allowed the final episode to feel more impactful. And for the third episode to conclude on an unapologetically harsh and sad note was pretty ballsy. I think Bane’s arc also benefited from having significant time jumps between each episode, whereas the Ventress story all seemed to occur in a much shorter stretch of time.

And its been addressed, can't we move on? I didn't post what I did to keep the conversation going. I really don't think this debate needs to be plastered everywhere as soon as someone mentions the word 'woke'.

Both sides of this debate just can't help themselves and so it just completely derails any conversation into what this has become.

Maybe I'm speaking out of turn but I suspect there are a lot of us that just get sick of this stuff coming up over and over across multiple threads on multiple forums.

If its just me fine, I will shut up. Otherwise, can both sides please just let it go and move on?

I could care less the species, ethnicity or sexual preference of a character as long as they are interesting and needed for the story as a whole. If any of that breaks my suspension of disbelief, then I have a problem.

I don't understand how any of those things could ruin suspension of disbelief. Unless you're talking about, like, whitewashing, where a character with a previously established racial identity is given Eurocentric features, but I don't see how that applies to original characters who haven't been introduced before. Do you have any examples of where a person's species, ethnicity, or sexual preferences actually broke your suspension of disbelief? I'm curious now.

Tbh, as much as I liked Ventress' arc, I thought the opening scene was the most controversial. As I'd mentioned on my initial review about her arc, it seemed like her quick and immediate resurrection was a copout. Talzin gives her a choice of joining the nightsisters in the afterlife or go back to the land of the living. Sorry sisters, I'm in love with a Jedi. Talzin gave the vague message about "losing that which you most desire", but does the entire arc actually suggest that she lost anything? She didn't forget about Vos when she was resurrected. Again, I like Ventress and it pains me to criticize anything that she's affiliated with, but if it was up to me, her resurrection wouldn't have been basically a snap of the finger. Think back to the spectacle that TCW featured of the Nightsisters transitioning her to becoming one of them.

I expected to hate Ventress’s resurrection, but in the end, it was the only really memorable moment from the season. I thought Cad Bane’s backstory was very pedestrian, in the end. He’s definitely the kind of character, like Boba Fett, who benefits from audiences knowing less about him, not more. This season should’ve just stuck with Ventress.

That was meh. Ventress as a non-villain isn't very interesting.
