Maybe we can see an attack on the rebel base on the yavin planet with overwhelming imperial forces that made the rebels evacuate.

a tv show of it could work.

But... that's kind of taken care of in ANH. The Empire discovered the Yavin base by tracking the Falcon there, and the Death Star is preparing to destroy it right before the Death Star gets blown up.

The timeline is covered vaguely in canon...
    * The Falcon arrives and Dodonna advises Mon and Draven to leave as Yavin isn't safe now
    * Mon and Draven leave with a part of the Rebel Fleet, Ackbar now commanding the Mon Cal cruisers
    * Tarkin arrives with the Death Star but the Rebels are ready and attack before the DS can destroy Yavin
    * The rebels destroy the DS at a heavy cost, have a brief ceremony which is broadcast to the
    galaxy by rebel hackers
    * Yavin is evacuated before more Imperials arrive

You could show this mixed with footage from ANH but it's just as easily explained through dialogue. Vel will more than likely go with her cousin, probably Kleya too and explaining why they're not there at the ceremony. The potential is there for a continuation of the story in the same gritty ant-war style. It gives the opportunity to create new Imperial villains, a new Imperial Fleet with Star Destroyers and even some new designs, I wouldn't be against seeing a Cantwell class cruiser being part of this fleet too. May be it comes across as too much like Battlestar Galactica for some, that's the only reason I can imagine anyone beng against it.

That might make a good opening scene for a show set during the OT.

    STAR WARS - Mother Tarkin

A parental cautionary tale of galactic proportions.
    Tagline: "She wears combat boots."

Do we need a Wilhuff-centric film or show? No. The reverberating shockwaves of his mother's brute nurturing force through the walls of his childhood home will be enough to glean some insight into his development.
Forget about Disney needing to acquire the rights from the executors of the Peter Cushing estate to use his likeness, because this show is about Wilhuff's mum. Sure, there might be some kid cast to play him in his early years, but he'll look different enough. Guy Henry in a wig could play Mother Tarkin. Better yet, Tom Hiddleston.

We’ve had pulpy, mythy Star Wars shows (Mando, Ahsoka, etc), and we’ve had a hyper-realistic Star Wars show (Andor). Now it’s time for an insane Star Wars show. A Mad Max-style over the top, yet gritty, take, featuring Ortolans with jet packs firing rocket launchers at hutts on massive speeders. What I thought BoBF was going to be, until it became spy kids without the spying. Lean into the weird and the grotesque elements of the universe. That’s the flavor I’d like next.

If the crew from Andor has the interest to keep going, they could easily just keep going into the ANH-ESB time period.

The Senate has been disbanded, but the Death Star ended up being a dud.

Tagge believed that even with the Death Star the Empire would be difficult to control without the Senate, but now there’s no Senate and no Death Star.

How does the Imperial propaganda machine deal with the destruction of the Death Star? Is Tarkin posthumously accused of being a traitor? Is there a purging of Imperial officers as a scapegoat to convince the Galaxy of a larger Rebel conspiracy? Are the Rebel Senators blamed?

Does the common man know about Alderaan? Do they think it’s a hoax?

The Rebels are on the run, Mon has to recruit allies while remaining hidden and evading Imperial traps.

Without the Senate to fund Imperial projects, is the Empire turning to criminal syndicates?

I think there is plenty of meat there still to have a successor political/spy thriller with the same team, albeit with a replacement lead for Diego.

I think Kleya does represent a good potential lead for such a show, not only a dramatically interesting character played by someone who looks like a major discovery(but is young enough they may have less problem with staying with SW longer term) but also I think a character in an interesting position. Someone who is set apart rather than the mainstream of the rebellion and could provide good links between them and potential imperial defectors or worlds/groups/individuals who might be sympathetic to the rebels.

As you say there's actually a pretty blank slate(at least on screen) in terms of how the Empire actually operates during the OT era outside of the direct conflict with the rebels. Whilst the Rebels themselves are morally clearer than during Andor those deciding whether to help them or not maybe a good deal less so, could involve double agents, could involve people driven by selfish reasons, etc.

I do think the massive advantage they have now is Andor has given then a tone/style to work with going forward, something which I think has always been a struggle after the OT.
