May be the greatest and most powerful quote of the whole saga.

I keep going back to Vel verbally demolishing Samm after Cinta's death. I think it's arguably the boldest piece of dialogue in the whole series.

Wouldn't you rather give it all at once to something real?

Just addressing the elephant in the room. Not so much because it's a good line but it's certainly memorable because of it's envelope-pushing dialogue and divisive effect on the fandom.

I didn't like that. It takes me out of the GFFA.

The first time I watched Episode 12, I thought Tynnra Pamlo said "More like effed up speculation."
I had to switch on subtitles to see that she said "More like puffed up speculation." That was a relief.

I see no different between the use of that word, and the use of hell.

I've always been in the camp that the fake swear words they traditionally use in Star Wars sound super goofy, but I will admit this felt a bit jarring given the history of the franchise... not really sure what the best approach is but on principle I don't see how there's any difference on a world-building level between English swear words and every other English word they use. "Hell" is actually much more remarkable because it implies the existence of certain spiritual/cultural beliefs that aren't really referenced anywhere else.

At the end of the day I think it's just another part of the difference in tone between Andor and previous Star Wars projects, and it's used very sparingly.

I want a version of A New Hope with Luke saying "Maclunkey " when he fires the proton torpedoes. And then Vader, while spinning through space, says "Dank Farrik! "

This is unintentionally funny. The “elephant in the room?” Really? Almost nobody is thinking about that line anymore, and it hardly had a “divisive” effect on the fandom. A few people didn’t like it and moved on. It’s not so much the elephant in the room, as it is an elephant the size of a flea in an empty room, among many, that’s been abandoned for years.

It didn't even register to me as significant the first time I saw the scene, that is how much of an elephant I saw it as. A few people on the forum made a big deal about it after it aired, and I didn't really remember what people were talking about. On rewatch my reaction was "oh yeah, that did happen."

He wasn't swearing, he was just mourning his friend Glup who was onboard the patrol craft and couldn't bring himself to fully say his last name.

Is it? In a thread about Andor quotes (the title of said thread doesn't specify any specific category of quotes) I think it is an elephant in the room in it's own way. It stood out enough to cause some debate here and it hasn't been addressed yet in the thread about "Andor" quotes. Let's keep some context here, we're talking about quotes from a show, a fairly light topic, so maybe I shouldn't have used hyperbole like "elephant in the room" as it was obviously taken the wrong way.

You know for a fact no one is thinking about that line anymore? In a thread about "Andor" quotes? I'm sure it's crossed some minds since the thread came up and the "divisiveness on the fandom" was just what I witnessed here as you noted which I know is a small sample of the fandom so again, hyperbole that perhaps I shouldn't have used.

Yeah I get it, you didn't like my use of hyperbole in a simple thread about quotes but there's no reason to be insulting about it.

You’re right, I didn’t have to harp on about it in that way. Apologies. Was actually trying to make light of it there at the end, but I see why it came across as mean-spirited.

In the end, to speak of substance and to leave the snark aside, I don’t actually understand the aversion to Earth-based curse words in Star Wars, given that we’ve had them since ANH (e.g. damned-fool), and most importantly, given that all the English dialogue in Star Wars is understood to be a translation from Galactic Basic. In that context, why are only curse words not translated? That takes me out of the world even more.

    Apology accepted my friend :)

Well I guess that certain "soft" curse words like "Damn" and "Hell" are acceptable but as we saw here on these boards the S-word is crossing a line. No one drew that line in the sand so-to-speak it was just discovered when that word was uttered. Maybe it's because those other "soft" words were "established" in the OT. I still have my problems with the use of "Hell" but not because it's a curse word but I won't get into that discussion here. In truth, and in reference to @Riv_Shiel 's post above, I didn't even catch it on the first time around. I must have been taking a sip of my drink or a bite of my snack (I tend to eat during SW viewings) so I missed it entirely. It wasn't until I came here to these boards and saw the discussion and was like "huh? what?" then went back and rewatched and was like, "oh, he did say that. Seems a bit out of place." I found Bail's use of the same word in S2 to be more jarring, not just because was it said more clearly, but because it came from a more refined character. Then we have the whole discussion about the made-up GFFA alternative curses which I also have mixed feelings about.

Personally I hope there are more F-bombs in future Star Wars shows, as they are warranted directed at Imperials and other fascists.

    Anyway, on quotes:

“Of all things at risk, the loss of objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest…The monster we’ve helped create? The monster who will come for all of us soon enough is Emperor Palpatine!”
