Anyone catch this new series on E! this week? If you missed it I'm sure it will be oft repeated (like VH1's "I love the 70's & 80's)

Lots of real classic stuff here. This show brought back lots of memories from the 70's & 80's. My only gripe was that the complete bit wasn't shown, just a tiny clip. 2 main thoughts I had after watching this series:

    1. Just how many true comic genius' that were Saturday Night Live cast members is mind boggling. From John Belushi to Chevy Chase to Eddie Murphy to Chris Rock to Adam Sandler to Will Ferrell, the list goes on & on.

    2. Just how deeply rooted in American Pop Culture this show is. There are catch phrases I've been hearing for years that I had no idea came from this show.

So, what are some of your favorite characters/sketches/cast members? Were there any you feel deserved to make the cut but didn't? My top 10 in no particular order:

    1. Operaman
    2. Land Shark
    3. The Roxbury Guys
    4. Nat X
    5. The Coneheads
    6. Church Lady
    7. Hanz & Franz
    8. The Swinging Chech Brothers
    9. Mr. Robinson's Neighborhood
    10.Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker

    Among some of my favorites...

The Olympia Diner (Belushi, Akroyd and Murray)... "Cheeseburger!!"

    Superfans ... "Da Bearss"

Matt Foley, Motivational Speaker "...when you're living in a van down by the river!"

Celebrity Jeopardy... Sean Connery: "I'll take The Rapists" for 200". Alex: "That's therapists..."

I love Dana Carvey not only as the Church Lady, Garth, George H. W. Bush, but also some of his minor bits, like when he does the McLaughlin Group or Tom Brokaw.

And how great was Phil Hartman? His parody "The Sinatra Group" still puts me in stitches. Clinton at McDonald's? Admiral Stockdale? Ed McMahon? Unfrozen Caveman Lawyer? He is truly missed.

And how great was Phil Hartman?

Phil Hartman may have been the best of the dead SNL vets, and one of the best in SNL history period. it bugs me that so many people seem to remember Chris Farley than Hartman. he was also brilliant on NewsRadio and The Simpsons.

Phil Hartman was superior to Chris Farley in every way, and was always more watchable. The Matt Foley character was funny, but I'd take Hartman over Farley any day.

I also really liked the Point-Counterpoint bits with Jane Curtin and Dan Akroyd, John Belushi's Samurai sketches, Wayne's World, and Dana Carvey and Jan Hooks as Regis and Kathie Lee. And who could forget Bill Murray's Lounge Singer? "Staaaaaaarrr Waaaarrrrrs!..."

Wayne's World was great, but my favorite Mike Myers' sketch has got to be Sprockets. "you vill vake up vith a size seven poop chute." classic.

Bill Murray's awesome, the Lounge Singer was great, but that also reminded me how much i loved Nora Dunn and Jan Hooks as the Sweeney Sisters "CLANG-CLANG-CLANG! went the trolley! thank you, thank you, DING-DING-DING! went the bell! thank you very much..."

there was this one called Sunday Morning Videos with Rob Schneider that almost made me herniate myself, too.
