I have a 12" Chewbacca from the 1996 Kenner Collectors Series. Does anyone know how much this is worth?

LAJ_Fett can probably give you a pretty good answer over in the Questions and Answers thread. From my experience, the Collector Series Chewbacca was the rarest of the entire series. Had it not been for a friend of mine I would never have gotten him. I haven't looked into it recently, but a couple years back I was reading ToyFare and he was listed at $60 MIB.

According to the Feb 2004 issue of Lee's Toy Review, the Chewbacca ('96 box) is $500 MIB, $35 Loose.

$500? It's gone up in the past few years. Wow, I must have a real gem in my possession.

Well, there's the non "96 box" Chewbacca is only $90. I don't know how to identify the differences in the boxes between the 2 variations, but hopefully someone else might know that. That is a major value difference!

I know what that means. When it refers to the "'96 Box", it is referring to the Collector Series version. In 1998, the same doll was released in the Action Collection, and that is the one that must be worth $90. Luckily, I have both of them.

Is this the "hairy" Chewbacca that came out and was next to impossible to find?

    That's the one. :p

The whole purpose of re-releasing him for the Action Collection was to give collectors who hadn't found him the first time around a second chance at getting him. This really didn't work out, since he was still just as hard to find. I had to order the re-release from JCPenney when they used to carry the 12" figures. He came in a set of four that also had Jedi Luke, Barquin D'An, and Emperor Palpatine.

    12 inch Chewbacca

Dark Blue background, choke warning, 1st sku, upside-down TIE fighters, 1st four figures on back, 'from the movie' on bio. 10/97 $29.99 10 Note: The rarest 12'' and one of the rarest toys ever made. This was never sold at retail, it was only available from Hasbro/New Ventures direct order. Very few are out there and many changes were made to the final version

Light Blue background, choke warning removed, new sku, correct TIE fighters, 2nd wave of figures on back, 'from the trilogy' on bio. 11/97 $19.99 6 Note: Regular version shipped one per case and was always hard to find

'Universe' also says 500.00 US for 1996 Chewie.

It is the Collectors Series, and the copyright says 1996. I think the backdrop is light blue...does that affect anything?

btw, that Sir Steve's site lists the original retail value, not the current collectors value.

Ok, the version I have is the one that has the light blue background, the correct tie fighters, no choking warning, and it says "from the trilogy" in the bio. How much is this version worth? I'd bet it's the one with the dark blue background that's worth $500.

My understanding is that the "valuable and rare" version has the dark blue background, as the first wave did.

Awww I see now...thanks for the photos. Darn it! I have the second release, not the first.

I had my Dad buy him for me for Xmas. He had to buy it on ebay since all versions were long gone from stores.

Course if even the second one is worth money- I guess that's a good thing :)

I think he's still eventually coming out of his box though. I love my furry Chewie! [face_love]

I just checked mine, and it's the light blue version. Even if it was the dark blue version, I couldn't part with something that I wanted so badly was as hard to find as it was.

The only difference between the Collector Series Chewie and the Action Collection version is that the latter comes packaged in chains, and is referred to as Boushh's prisoner.

Stang... I need to check on the background of the one I have- it's also signed by Peter Mayhew...
Couldn't see myself parting with it though!
