Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine
By Voronica Whitney-Robinson and Haden Blackman

    [image=http://www.randomhouse.com/catalog/covers_450/0-345-47066-4.jpg]

    Randomhouse.com's description:

It is a time of great turmoil. The oppressive Empire is close to seizing complete control of the galaxy. The ragtag guerrilla army of the Rebel Alliance fights on, striking wherever it can, but now something has come to light that could spell certain doom. Hidden in the Jedi ruins of Dantooine is a Holocron containing a list of high-level Rebel sympathizers. If that list were to fall into the hands of Darth Vader, the Rebel Alliance would lose its most valued supportâ??and possibly the war itself.

As an Imperial bio-engineer who frequently visits other worlds, Dusque Mistflier is the perfect cover for a Rebel who needs to travel far and wide without arousing suspicion. And so she agrees to help Rebel spy Finn Darktrin in his quest to recover the crucial Holocron. Despite help from Han, Luke, and Leia, the mission is fraught with peril. And as their journey takes them into the fiery belly of the beast that is galactic civil war, Dusque and Finn will learn that the hardest part of all is figuring out whose side youâ??re onâ??and how far youâ??re willing to go to win.

Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine is scheduled as a late December 2003 paperback release.

Shouldn't this be a sticky thread?

You forgot to make it sticky.

    EDIT: There you go.

I'll say it again: I bought the book today but it'll be a while before I get around to reading it.

Its pretty short, 286 pages with large print.

Also, the name "Dusque Mistflier" is really dumb. :p

Ok, now that that's all sorted out- it seems a couple people have already started finding the book in stores, so we're bound to have some reactions coming in soon ::)

For reference, the pre-release discussion thread can be found here:

Star Wars Galaxies: The Ruins of Dantooine

In that thread, the main author of the book, Voronica Whitney-Robinson, joined us for a bit under the user name Voronica.

Hopefully she'll stop by again now that book is just about out ::)

Here are some comments she posted in that thread:

" You definitely don't have to play the game to read the book and don't have to read the book to play the game. However, the book may give gamers an inside track to some of the NPCs in the game."

"The book is a full-length novel, no stats or the like."

"I spent several hours using the game for reference, so that if I said something was NW of Nym's Stronghold, it was! I also used pretty much every one of Random House's "Essential" guides from droids to technology...The Wildlife of Star Wars...The Encyclopedia...

And that's just to name a few!"

286 pages with pretty large print...I think that's pretty short, really.
And what kind of a name is "Dusque Mistflier"?
Ah well, I'll certainly give it a chance one of these days." ;)

Rogue Ten: "A break from the big three?! [face_shocked]
    I want it!" :_|

Well, I'm only about 50 pages into the book but I have to say I've been enjoying it a lot.

It's a lot of fun to see all the references to characters and things that are part of the game.

I wonder if Dusque Mistflier will be in the game soon (or already is?).

BTW, I play on the Wanderhome & Chimaera servers... :)

Wasn't there a listing of SWG NPC's in a thread a few months ago? If anyone can dig that up (or the source the info in that thread originated from (strat guide perhaps?)), maybe Mistflier will be in there.

    >>You forgot my response to your Palpatine-esque request.<<

Hey, at least I actually laid down my emergency powers afterwards, as promised [face_batting]

(ok, so maybe I didn't have a choice in the matter, but we'll save the "Should Quest be given permanant sticky thread creation ability: Y/N" topic for a future poll or something...)

This book probably isn't as important.

ironically, i dug up that thread today to update the Ebenn Q3 Baobab tidbit.

no mention in the strategy guide on Mistflier, probably they hadn't thought of her at the time that they were composing the guide, or else they decided to keep her a secret for the novel.

Am I the only one who still wishes Escape from Dagu was released instead of this video game(crappy video game) spin-off?

I'd probably rather have Dagu, but I think I'll reserve my final judgement until I've read this one. ;)

Keep in mind that this didn't replace Escape From Dagu- Ruins of Dantooine would have been released regardless of EFD's status.

The EFD replacement title is a clone wars paperback hitting late 2004.

I read it and thought it was pretty good. I wish we would have seen more of Inqusitor Loam Redge. He seemed to have the potential to be a pretty cool character from the prologue.

Dusque Mistflier was interesting, at least to me. It was interesting how she used the Nitko's anatomy and physiology against him on Lok.

The biggest thing I didn't like about this book was the fact that it took a while to get the action rolling.

Interesting. What kind of numerical rating would you give it (e.g., 5/10, 7/10, etc).

Also, how many pages is it ?

It's 286 pages long. I'd give it about an 8.5. It was pretty good, but not great. I hope that Voronica Whitney-Robinson gets another chance to write in the EU and I also hope that we see Dusque Mistflier and Finn Darktrin again.

    Bit on the short side.

That is a pretty good rating, though.

On top of there not being many pages, the print is larger than most SW books.
