2010 Costume Projects and Wish Lists!

Okay, maybe this is a bit premature, but 2010 will be soon upon us, and thus another year of cons, including the elusive CV! So, what projects will you be working on for the new year? Or, do you have a specific 'wish list' of costumes you're shooting for?

 

So far my list:

- Imperial Royal Guard - Finally finish.

- Final Fantasy X-2 Yuna - Redo shirt & armbands.

- Avatar Yangchen (Avatar the Last Airbender) by Comic Con?

 

This year I'm concentrating on Mandalorian armor. I might make a jedi, if I have time and resources, because that is always good to have around. I've spent so much time making them for other people and my children, I've just never gotten around to having on in my closet. So that is my basic list. I just hope the Mandalorian comes out well.

 

I wish to finish at least one of my big historic projects and a couple of smaller ones as well as some recreations too

Big Historic:
Spanish c1600- already cut and flatlined the major pieces and have all the trim now.
1890 Worth Gown full of pearls.

1520s Swiss gown in lilac wool and burgundy guards
1860s green Velveteen dress
1830s day dress in checked cotton

The only nearly fully new project is the templar. The historic are all nearly finished I just want to get them off the to do list

Costume 1) will be started on as soon as I reach my 2nd Targeted Weight (70kg) which is only 2kg away on a good day (so I MIGHT complete it before the year end anyhow) while Costume 3) will be worn when I reach my 3rd Targeted Weight (65kg) which I hope by July 2010 should all goes well. For Costume 5) when I reach my 4th Targeted Weight (60kg), hopefully by end of 2010 but then again, I MIGHT wait to reach my 5th Targeted Weight (55kg) before wearing it at as public Cosplay event to look GOOD in it, and not deemed as bad of something by Singapore's Cosplay standards.

As for Costume 12), MIGHT do it for Singapore Toy, Games and Comic Convention 2010, assuming it falls in August again or later. The Maroon Velvet I deemed for it had been collecting cobwebs for too long already now while in storage.

As for Side-Projects....

Need to add in Queen of Hearts Disney version - redo my bodice & collar, make the skirt non-rip-offable. Maybe redo the underskirt to get it to lay better.

Okay, now that I have a minute to answer my own question (lol)...I've already started a Sally Jupiter, which includes dying the georgette that I found (I also found some killer boots). Silk Spectre II is much more my style, but I have no experience in working with latex. I'll have to work on that soon, 'cause I really LOVE that suit and would not even need to style my hair differently from my normal 'do
I'd also like to make a Moulin Rouge Green Fairy for D*C...hopefully I can work on that over next summer break.
My Amidala "travel gown" concept is currently in limbo...when they announce CV I'll have a better idea of where it should go on my priority list.
I'm sure there will be more ideas pop up here and there...we'll see! It sounds like we all have a very busy year ahead of us!

 

At the moment all I really want to do are Legacy-era costumes. Have one project TOO many lined up but as I'm trying to grow my hair out for the Marasiah Fel ones, I figure that the best thing to do is work on them when I have inspiration/time/money and find the materials when they're on sale. The fact that I'm looking into modifying patterns and learning to make fiberglass armor kinda intimidates me, ha ha!

My 2010 list is so up in the air. The #1 thing I want to focus on over the winter is to finally make a little headway on my Bespin Leia, for C5 (if we're able to go... depends on when it is!)
A couple of other things I'd like to do is to tweak my new Wonder Woman costume for MidSouthCon next year, make Belle's Christmas dress, Ms. Marvel, Magik from New Mutants, and either a Ravenclaw uniform or Beauxbatons.

I didn't stick very well w/my 2009 wish list. Here's what I did finish.

1. Sally Jupiter (Watchmen) - made for megacon 2009.
2. Huntress (Birds of Prey) - for superman celebration 2009.
3. Jean Grey (X-Men) - dragoncon.
4. Rogue (X-Men Age of Apocalypse) - dragoncon
5. Wonder Woman - dragoncon. didn't quite get it finished (the gold pieces), want to finish it for next year.
6. Ame-Comi Poison Ivy (batman) - dragoncon
7. Black Canary (Dc comics) - dragoncon. didnt think I'd get this one done!
8. Anne Boleyn (The Other Boleyn Girl) - dragoncon. first time making anything like that! it's so fun to wear.
9. Snow White - my halloween costume this year, so happy with it!

that's it for me this year. We just moved so my sewing room is a disaster... who knows when I'll be able to get in there to sew again! LOL

 

I only really got a few things done this year, the biggest of them being my Cookie Monster, which got alot of comments and even the stars of Legend of the Seeker loved!

The First half of 2010 for my Costumes is:

1980's Flash Gordon: Dale Arden's Bead Wedding Dress - Have made the Head dress, now just for the REST OF THE 500 to 1000 beads!! Why did I have to love this costume so much!!

Adding Leia's senatorial gown to the list, as I need to make that costume while I still have my current job. See, part of my job involves restoring data, and this often involves inserting data tapes into a robot that manages all our backups. So I need to make the costume, and then get a picture of me inserting a tape into the robot. It just has to happen.

I was close to finishing the Flame Handmaiden and I will finish that before 2009 is done. I did purchase a Black Invasion Gown but the blouse and overcoat got lost in transit and I am still trying to finish the overcoat and get the right fabric. I also redid my AOTC White Battle cape and redyed my boots. I still need to finish the CW Padme purple hat and cape.


Other costumes I need to finish(in no particular order):
Amidala TPM Red Invasion Gown(I need to line one sleeve with fur & attach it on the dress, pipe the dress, finish the collar & the headpiece)
Amidala TPM Parade Gown(I just need to finish the dumb parasol on this one)
Leia Boushh(have done all the hard parts, now just need to start the soft parts)
Padme ROTS Water End Gown(have some nice cloak fabric and some silk metallic tissue for the dress and great sequins but this one is another one I need to start)

I love your blue robes I have been a fan of lattice smocking since.. um.. 1992 when my aunt let me go through all her Golden Hands craft books Lovely to see someone do all that

 

Well, 2009 was very busy in other ways, and it became a year of sewing for others, including a full 18th century French military coat and waistcoat for a member of Lauzun's legion in my area, a wedding gown, and little bits here and there. But in the end, none of the plans I had for myself or my husband panned out.

So, as I'm already up to my neck in a commission today and this break must be very brief, let's just take last year's list and re-attribute it to 2010.

Perhaps this year will be less hectic and more visibly productive.

 

Oooh, Becca I never saw the Naboo guards. Those look awesome! How'd you make the arm bracers and what'd you use for the guns?
