    hey all.

So as some of you know, i entered a short film comp last year called 24/7. Its where i met emily and Kateous for the first time amoungst other things. well, its on again this weekend, and after this ill be to old to compete, so this is it for me.

The premise is simple: at 8pm friday night, all the teams are given a list of items, locations, lines etc. We have to incorporate these into a film lasting 7 minutes. We have 24 hours to complete this. The films can be about anything, and the rules are pretty few.

Im teaming up this year with someother people i met at the comp last year, and am really lookin foorward to the film we have planned. and so Id like peopel to come see it.

I know its late notice and a bad night n all, but at 830 Sunday night at the Warriewood cienma, the 10 finalists are shown. Now i may not be one of them, but if last year is anything to go by i should be :) so come and see! It should be a good night!

Incidentally, i finished the 24/7 promo film i was working on, and hope to eventually put it online. Its 27 minutes long and spoofs the TV show 24, with Jack Bauer rushing round saving the groups from last year from film terrorists.

So...yes. Thats all i have, Hope i see u there, but i understand if its kinda badtiming

Well, last night was the judging. 21 teams and 89 people were entered in the comp. Last night they showed the top 10. Kate Bradley (Who many of u know) had her film shon 8th. Rasther nerve-wrackingly, ours was shown 10th :) I was happy just to have made the top 10, so that was a great feeling. It lasted about 4 seconds, till we realised the sound was stuffed. It cut in and out regularly, often on the punchlines to the jokes. Still, people enjoyed it.

Then it came to the awards. Kate scored best script for her film, and imagine my surprise when my team won Best under 18s film. Now we were eligible for that because other than me and lin, everyone was no older than 14. I was mildly embaressed, being 25n all, but the guys were very excited. But then came my biggest shock of the night: We got the peoples choice award, with 49 votes. THAT I was proud of.

ANyway have to work, will expand later.

A big congrats on both the People's Choice Award and the Under 18s (that you were able to direct a bunch of people under 14 is a major achievement ;)). And another big congrats to Kate on her Best Script Award, I knew you'd won even before they announced it. :D

Despite the technical glitches, the event was pretty good. I got to meet a bunch of people who I only knew because I'd seen them on screen so many times after working on the festival's promo film. And I got to meet some of the organisers who were thankful for making the film festival video logo and apologetic for not asking my permission. But with me having my work up on the big screen for the first time who was I to complain. ;)

When the festival video comes out it'll be well worth watching. The claymation flick was an awesome peice of work and definitely deserving of the Best Comedy award. :)

    Thanx guys.

Ok, so now for the whole story of events.

Friday at 7oclock they show the 24/7 film that Kate and I made. People laugh, which makes Kate n I feel pretty good about ourselves. Then the rules and the items list is announced. During a short film that shows the item films, Ross, the guy who created 24/7, shattered his ankle jumping off a skateboard ramp. Some of you may have met him at my birthday thing. He came late and had rice pudding. Anyway he needs to have several operations to repair his ankle, so he missed the festival.

The items we hasd to include were (Off the top of my head)

    Objects:
    A Bike
    A Page
    24/7 Documentary crew.

    Concepts
    Green
    Stick
    Cut

    Lines:
"Use your brain, not the drain"
    "What is that"
"Didnt your mother ever teach u not to hit girls?"

    Locations:
    Kielre Park Manly
    Narrabeen Pools
    Dee Why Library

We had to have soemthing from each category. To be safe, we had all of them, though during editing the 2nd 2 lines got cut.

At 8 oclock, competition begins. There are 21 teams, with 89 competitors. Only 10 films will make the finals. My team, consisting of Me, Linda, My bosses daughter and her friend, and 2 guys I met last year in the comp and their friend, sit down and figure out how to incorporate the items. At 8:20, we leave the community centre and start shooting.

We finish shooting for the night at 2:30am, having only missed one shot we had planned. Lin n I go home, and I start to capture what we filmed, but Linda wisely soon has me come to bed.

We get up at 9, and Im capturing and editing a bit till 1030, when we leave for Narrabeen to keep shooting, calling the documentary crew to meet us there. By 1230, we have done all the shots and are scoffign a quick lunch. We head back to my house, and by 130, editing begins.

I edit straight through till about 730, taking breaks of 5 minutes twice. The rest of the team is hanging round, and several team meetings were had about what scenes needed to be cut, since the first edit was 9:45. We eventually get down to 7:30, and are told thats fine.

at 7:45, the render to DV tape is done, and the guys leave to drop the film off. Linda and I walk to the bus stop, where she heads off to go dancing. I rent a bad movie, get Indian, and shut off my brain.

Flash forward to Sunday night. We arrive just before 8, and theres a big crowd at th Cinema. thanx again to Paul for coming, and also for the 24/7 logo, originally designed for our Promo film, that became used a lot during the proceedings.

10 films are shown. They're all pretty good, and 4 groups from last year (including us, an amalgram of 2 of last years teams)return, and all win awards in the end. Up till a film is shown, no-one knows which ten will be in it

Oh! Our film was called "Hans Polcheck: The Case of the Missing Case" and was a black and white detective comedy.

So thats it! thats a prettyy lengthy rundown of my weekend, but Im stockd to have gotten the Peoples Choice award, and the kids deserved the under 18's. Im gonna try n get Pat (Who played the detective) to join Fanforce, coz hes a great guy. Probably the funniest person Ive ever met, and hes amazing at improv. Incidentally, there were about 100 people who voted int he peoples choice, across 10 teams, and we got 49 votes. I was pretty proud of that :)
