For that other series about Infected that are totally not zombies, here's that sweet trailer again That is confirmed as not Cillian Murphy at the end. Also, one of the most viewed horror trailers ever and 28 Days Later is finally coming to digital on December 18th (after being temporarily yanked for sales awhile ago as the franchise moved to Sony). Early Infected Christmas present!
The zombie genre has been in a serious slump ever since 28dl came out. Mostly because nothing else has or ever will measure up. Probably also not this but we can dream.
I still like the reference in Shaun of the Dead. "Claims that the virus was caused by rage-infected monkeys have now been dismissed as bull-"
OG trailer reposted by Sony with the digital release date, just ignore that Fox Searchlight logo. This franchise had two banger trailers! I feels like it is using the same late 90s early 2000s techno and Nu Metal riffs that was in the X-Men trailer (and maybe the Resident Evil trailer too). Someone at Fox trailer department loved that riff!
I rewatched 28 Days Later a couple of days ago. I hadn't seen it since film school (at which time I was obsessed with it and watched it over and over again) some 17-ish years ago. It holds up remarkably well! Except for the fact that it was shot on DV, and the image doesn't look great on a modern big-screen TV. But having been an avid Canon DV shooter back in the day, that mostly felt nostalgic anyway. It's easily one of the best horror movies on this side of the millennium, and freaked me out a lot more now than I expected. The whole final act scared me a lot more now than it did when I was younger. In short, I loved that film when I was in my early twenties, and I loved it as much this time around. Really looking forward to Years, though I'm not expecting it to live up to the original. I'll be rewatching Weeks soon, but I remember not being that into that film back then.
I think the DV gives it a gritty dark energy, like the footage is busted like the world itself. I thought DV also worked in Collateral like the whole thing is caught on security cameras. Any other DV experiments from the 2000s don't work anywhere near as well
The opening of Weeks is fab even if one doesn't like the rest of the movie (which Boyle apparently directed the opening scene) Oh and I should mention that the 28 Years Later sequel has already been filmed by the Marvels director so we're definitely getting two of a proposed trilogy. 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple Pretty sure you can see some Bone Temple in the trailer
Yah it was bouncing around streaming services (when Disney Plus Star launched they had 28 Days Later and 28 Weeks Later, now all they have is weeks), and it was on disc but out of print. This is the start of Sony owning it so whoever has first run Sony deals (I believe Netflix in US and Crave in Canada) will probably be getting 28 Days Later in a few months but right now can finally buy on Digital tomorrow. Disc release is definitely coming again as well
Oh, absolutely agreed! I love the cinematography of the film, but a DVD transfer of a shot-on-DV film still doesn't translate great through my BD player upscaling it for a large, modern screen. Thankfully I still have an old CRT TV in my office, on which it will look great.
Who ripped off who in the wake up in hospital/streets are empty department - 28 Days or Walking Dead?
28 Days Later premiered before the Walking Dead comic, but for all I know that opening preceded both of them.
I haven't seen Weeks, but Days was good. I remember being pretty disturbed by the image / thought of zombies that could run. That one scene where people are hiding in a house at night and you see a running zombie outside through a window very briefly when lightning flashes... a second later it comes crashing through the window. Yikes.
Weeks was ok but the plot hinged on smart people doing moronic things at the worst possible moment which is always annoying.
720x576 (since it was shoot in PAL. On the NTSC version of the Canon XL1, it'd be 720x480). I believe The Day of the Triffids was first?
Indeed, not even close to HD. Whether it's 720x480 or 720x576, it's not to be confused with the HD 720, which is 1280x720. I will never not be annoyed that the vertical pixel count is used to describe resolution, when the horizontal one is the one that matters, but that's a rant for another thread.
