A very interesting question has come up as I write my Prequel Fan fic, in the story I've placed Jabba in the same time frame as a very young Yoda. In the EU there is mention of the Hutt Clan, but was Jabba around during that time? If so...does that mean he is as old as Yoda? Older? Younger?

Even though this will not affect my story one way or the other...I just found it an interesting question none the less.

    As Yoda would ask..."A Thought?"

The information I have has Jabba being born 600 years before ANH. So about 300 years younger than Yoda.

Hmmm...I think that is very conflictive do you? I mean if he is 300 years older then Yoda...it would make a bit more sence. Seeing how Jabba has ruled the criminal element for so long. But on the other hand, if he was only 600 years old...the Hutt clan should have been in worst shape then they are now. Jabba's father was apparently (according to the official EU) a terrible crime lord that made foolish mistakes. Jabba would have had to bee alive much earlier to maintain some balance of the family sydnicate...if not to build his own career and impress his family enough to take over the buisness.

600 years wouldn't be long enough to achieve his goals, nor to obtain Tatooine and become the most fearful crime lord of the galaxy.

If you've read the Han Solo trilogy, Jabba's father/mother (Hutts are hermaphrodites) is still very much alive, and quite shrewd-so I don't see where you're getting these major mistakes from, unless it's in your 'fic.

    Hope that helped some.

I thought Hutts calculated their age by number of sandwiches eaten

Well, as I said before, the info comes straight from the EU posted on the StarWars official website. There's no real mention of "how old" Jabba is...but it does mention that his father was rather lousy at running the clan and that Jabba was much favored to take over the buisness. And if their hermaphodites...why did Jabba have a female companion in the background of TPM? (The Lucas Loophole Strikes again!)

There are so many conflicting histories of Jabba...it's really hard to say where he began...and how old he really was. Personally I don't think Lucas gives a crap about Jabba's age or pre-history. A giant slug is a giant slug to him nodoubt. "Let's have Jabba in the next trilogy!"

"Uh...George...he died in Return of the Jedi."

"Oh, Right. How bout this...he faked it! There..now he's back again!"

"...And if their hermaphodites...why did Jabba have a female companion in the background of TPM? (The Lucas Loophole Strikes again!)..."

That was Gardulla the Hutt... and I think she was his rival cousin or something. I know she was his rival something.

They're slugs... do they need genders?

That's Jabba's Aunt/Uncle Jiliac. Jabba's Father/Mother, Zorba, was rather incompetent, but he wasn't actually in charge of the Desilijic Kajidic (Hutt term for Clan).

As for the female hutts mentioned elsewhere, that's a matter of debate. However, hutts to seem to have some control over their male/female transformations so Gardulla may simply have preferred to be female most of the time.

Info from Timetales and the accompanying excel family trees.
