I just saw the new DVD Director's Edition of THX-1138. For the most part all the added effects and shots looked really nice and blended in well. I pretty much enjoyed the film up until the last 4 minutes or so.

I thought the shot of the enhanced "shell dwellers" I think they were called looked very synthetic and did not blend with the film or its' basic feeling at all. It is in my humble opineon a horrible effect to drop in at the end of an otherwise great and thought provoking film.

I think if Lucas really felt he needed to change the shot, men in suits would have been far better engrained in the final cut.

Aside from that, I'm happy with the effort made to the restoration. Although I never did hear the famous "I think I ran over a wookie" line. Perhaps it was removed. I never caught it the first time I viewed it either so perhaps I just missed it. Seems a little too classic to remove it.

I didn't have a problem with the creatures myself, although they looked a tad CG. People who haven't seen the original would be less bothered by it, I'd guess. Most of the CG blended in amazingly well, IMO. And it's still a really great and different movie.

The "Wookie" line is in there. I watched it with the subtitles on, because i wanted to follow all the various announcements. I find it's easier to follow the movie with the titles on, but that's just me.

Just watched the film last night (first time ever). I'll save all my thoughts for another thread. (Besides, I still haven't had enough time to think about it all.)

I new those guys were CGIed in there, but what was the scene like before?

Anything comparable to an ROUS? If so, I can't say that I blame Lucas for changing it.

In the original it was just one crazy looking midget.

Actually it was a couple of midgets - one of them went on to be a Time Bandit. He's in the white wall prison making fart noises with his hand...bring on the CG!

Yeah I agree. "obviously CG" is a million and a half times better than "obviously foam rubber" or "obviously a little person in a suit."

I have no problem with CGI at all.
