When Obi Wan jumps down to confront Grevious on Utapua he does this stance where he puts a hand behind his back and angles the lightsaber in front of him - does this stance have a name and does anyone know where i can get a wallpaper of this image.

    Thanks

Your best bet would be to Google for the names of sword fighting stances.

I don't know the name of the stance but I was about to post a thread about how lame it is. It's so frickin lame I hate it! It's the only thing I dislike about his character in the PT. Still adored ROTS..of course. [face_love]

It's a basic stance where a military soldier is holding a sword. I've seen that stance in some other movie, but I forgot which one. It's very simililar to the stance where Obi-Wan catches Dooku's lightning on his lightsabre.

Lame!, hardly!. that's is ObiWan's " I'm going to enjoy kickin your *** stance.and it's perhaps my all time fav Kenobi move. he was clearly confident, and ready to take them all on. i also love the way he uses his saber like a Baseball bat to take off one of the Magnaguards heads. he had a job to do , but it does'nt mean he can't have fun as well. in ROTS ObiWan seem's even more confident and skilled than Anakin.

It made me wonder if Obi had picked up on Mace's "have to come close to enjoying it" vibe with Vapaad. :p

Yeah, I think it was lame. It would be ok, but for the peace sign thing.

Thank you YaebGinn, I can't believe you folks like it. It's just sooooo presumptious and it makes Obi look like he's trying to hard. Theres no point to his little opening move other than to look really cool, which it really doesn't IMO.

I dunno it just doesn't make since, then again twirling your lightsaber around alot in a duel doesn't either [face_laugh]

I like it. I think it says "Get ready for a butt whoopin'."

You should see my 3 yr old son do that stance with his lightsaber. It is hilarious.

Perhaps Obi-Wan was beginning to believe his own hype. The novelisation touches on the aspect of celebrity and heroes that are Obi-Wan and Anakin and in the movie, there is a quick scene just after Anakin "safely" lands Grievous' ship on Coruscant thus returning the Chancellor. Obi-Wan mentions to Anakin that it is his turn to greet the "media".

It reminds me of the Highlander stance, right before bringing the other arm up to hold the hilt.

"No, Master Kenobi," says General Grievous, looking at Obi-Wan's peace sign. "There can be only one."

He was using the flashy, dramatic stance to egg Grievous on and challenge him... as a distraction until the troops arrived.

He might as well have slapped Grievous across the face with a glove.

    .

yes, that is it!. it is exactly the equivalent of the glove in the face. Grievous was so cocky, and ObiWan had to rise to the Occasion. A warrior who exudes a great amount of confidence can also have a big Pyschological effect also. And ObiWan behaved similarly with Grievous throughout the Movie. " Don't upset him Anakin, we have a Job to do". and that sums OBI up . gettin it done. [face_beatup]

What is constantly misstated as being the "peace" sign is, in fact, a "V for Victory" sign that was popularized during WWII by the likes of Winston Churchill. So, it could be a little nod to the "V for Victory" sign, in a way Obi-Wan expressing his confidence, since he does seem to have quite a bit in Episode III. I mean, he doesn't express any doubts at being able to kill Anakin, he just says he doesn't want to, and he says he "WILL do what he must," so I think it's just a part of his confidence, I suppose.
