I threw together the following story based on my reading of various star wars materials. I was trying to write up a cohesive explanation for the Ancient history of the galaxy vis-a-vis the Sith and the Jedi.

    Am interested in feedback.

    -------------------------------

A Short History of The Jedi, The Sith and The Ancient Galactic Republic

Far back in the annals of time, deep into the history of the Galaxy itself, the Galactic Republic began with four charter systems: Corellia, Coruscant, Alderaan, Chandrila.

These early human worlds came forth in war, seeking to subdue and dominate neighboring systems and to carve out an empire. Even during this early period of expansion, as worlds fought against the human aggressors and war raged on the frontiers of the then small human empire, the founders of the Republic encountered a mysterious group of monk-warriors.

    These were the Jedi.

The Jedi were prodigious warriors, and seemed to command the very powers of the universe itself. The Jedi were defenders of the worlds which the human empire sought to dominate. But against the Jedi, even the legendary warriors and armament of Alderaan were bested.

To the Jedi, they had never before encountered a race that seethed so with the power of the Force. Despite this, Humans were, for the most part, completely unaware of the power that lay at their fingertips.

Eventually, conflict gave way to commerce, and diplomatic and trade ties were established. As trade and commerce flourished, power within the human worlds became more and more decentralized to individual systems and corporate entities. Their Empire was transformed into a republic. Jedi missionaries travelled freely among the worlds of the Republic, and even recruited new Jedi from among the humans.

As time went on great friendship grew between the Jedi and the Republic. Soon other worlds joined the fledgeling republic, seeking the benefits of trade, diplomacy, and mutual cooperation. This period marked the end of the Human hegemony.

The Jedi were not affiliated with any particular systems, though there headquarters was known to be located on the planet Ossus, in the Adegan Solar System. As contact with the Jedi increased, however, Jedi influence within the Republic grew. The decentralization of power within the Republic caused a subsequent need for keeping the peace among the individual interests of the new order, marked by the corporations and new member worlds, as well as among the Feudal carryovers from the early Imperial era.

The Jedi fulfilled that role, keeping the peace, brokering compromises, and generally carrying out the will of the Republican Senate. Over time, the Jedi became the de-facto defenders of the Republic, as they had been for individual worlds in times past. Jedi padawans now drew heavily from human worlds, and the new Jedi won renown with their exceptional skills in the force.

The Jedi, in general, were taught the dangers of Anger and fear. They led to the dark side of the Force, and were a Jedi's greatest fear. It was difficult to train new Jedi, and it took a lifetime of training to suppress these instincts. The Human Jedi were taught this as well. Humans were, however, a naturally aggressive lot, if physically weaker when compared to many other sentient species in the galaxy.

In Humans anger and fear were powerful instincts. This, combined with an innate ability to wield the force, made for a dangerous combination.

Soon, there arose a faction of Human Jedi that embraced their fear, anger and ambition. Conflict soon arose with other members of the Jedi Order as these Dark Jedi utilized methods, protocols and powers forbidden by the Jedi Order.

Debate raged within the inner circles of the Jedi, as the dark faction demonstrated extraordinary powers and was growing in influence. Leaders of the Dark Jedi lobbied the Jedi Council to impose their will over the Republic and, eventually, the Galaxy itself.

The Jedi Masters and Ruling Council were, for the most part, against any appeal to dominate the people t
