This is a HUUUGE AU, rewriting just about everything, like the backstory. I diverge so far from canon it's almost like a whole new world. So all canon-sticklers please exit now.

The bright green fields of Kalee swam with blood. The battle was underway, Kaleesh versus Huk, as it had always been, as it would always be, and he was there in the thick of it, a whirlwind of fury and power. He was not alone, others were with him, laying down devastation and daring death as he was. One of them stepped to the fore, a ragged dusty brown cape draped over slender, insectile limbs and he started in shock. How could this be? Hadn?t he himself commanded this battle? And yet it felt so natural to be led, as if this was how it was meant to be. Killing bolts of red swept the field, not from the Huk, no, but felling this mysterious leader and injuring him fatally as well. Undaunted, he crawled to the fallen leader?s side where he had fallen face down on the bloody ground and rolled the limp body over for a look at the face?

And recoiled. It was HIS face.

General Grievous recoiled in his regeneration tube, awakening when his cybernetic armor clashed against the side of the tube. That dream again. Ever since Lord Sidious had rescued him off the battlefield of Kalee and repaired his many severe injuries, he had served the Sith Lord faithfully, but these dreams troubled him. Something was wrong somehow. One of his lieutenants entered, breaking his train of thought. ?Sir, long-range sensors indicate the Republic forces are on their way here. Their fighters are hitting our front line even as we speak.? He got up, his metallic talons clattering on the bare metal floor, driving the dream from his mind. ?Very good. They must be here for their precious Supreme Chancellor. Muster a defense, but leave an opening. You know, usual plan. And try not to look like you?re doing it on purpose. They just about saw through us last time.? This time he was certain he would meet up with some Jedi. More lightsabers for my collection, he thought with a certain amount of happiness mixed with a small amount of baseless uncertainty. Grabbing a pair of Force Pikes, he prepared for battle, heading for the bridge. "What's the situation now, Captain? Let me guess. We've been boarded." He knew they would arrive shortly and they didn?t keep him waiting, walking down a hallway completely oblivious to the cameras watching them. "Activate those rayshields!" They stumbled into the trap just like he?d thought they would, and his droid servants brought them before him, giving him both their lightsabers, which he put in his cape.

?Just as Count Dooku predicted? The Negotiator and the Hero With No Fear,? he said, ?They send their best to deal with me. As it should be!? All around him his troops were ready for battle, even despite the close quarters on the bridge. ?Anakin Skywalker. Given your reputation, you?re younger than I expected.? The young Jedi replied, ?And you?re shorter than I expected.? He let that one slide. ?And General Kenobi! Your lightsaber will make an excellent addition to my collection.? The other Jedi didn?t reply. He could see the Supreme Chancellor behind them, looking more exasperated than scared. One of his lieutenants piped up, ?The Republic gunships took out our stabilizers, sir! We?re going down!? He turned and snapped over his shoulder, ?Then fire the emergency booster engines, you idiot!? Both Jedi used the Force to retrieve their lightsabers, ignited them and began to fight. Soldiers were already beginning to fight back, but he gave his orders anyway. ?Attack,? he commanded. The battle began. The soldiers were nothing to the two Jedi, and soon Grievous stood alone. ?Do I have to do everything myself?? He couldn?t fight them properly like this. Not in such close quarters with so many things to trip over and fall on. Instead, he did the only thing he could think of and blew out the window with a Force Pike, letting the vacuum suck him out. ?You lose, General Kenobi!? He could see them hanging on for dear life as he just

At least SOMEBODY wants to see it... Chapter 2 is here, and this is where we start leaving canon.

He awakened again, in orbit around his destination. Sending a signal to his waiting allies, his escape pod was picked up and he went down to the planet?s surface. He had no doubt the Jedi would follow him even here. Mustering his troops, he settled down to wait in the depths of his chosen hideout: a great city set in the sides of a great cavernous hole. The natives had given in easy enough, but he was sure they would betray him to the Jedi at the first opportunity. The Jedi would follow; this he knew. He tried to rest in the meantime, to at least relax, but the dream plagued him even then.

The perimeter defense detected him first. One Jedi, but one was enough. He knew that no amount of security could hold a Jedi back for long, so he and his troops prepared for battle. No matter how he tried, he couldn?t quite suppress the nagging feeling of fear and uncertainty that was welling up deep inside him. Something was wrong. He could feel it. There was no time to think on it, however, as the Jedi entered. ?Hello there!?

?General Kenobi,? he said sarcastically, ?So we meet again.? Readying his lightsaber, the Jedi replied, ?You won?t get away this time, Grievous.? Grievous would have grinned, had he been able to. ?A Jedi?s weapon,? he said smugly. Reaching under his cape, he withdrew two unlit lightsabers of his own and prepared them. Obi-Wan growled, ?I knew the owners of those lightsabers? You?ll pay for killing them.? The battle began in earnest, each holding his ground. ?You must realize you don?t stand a chance. I was trained in the arts of lightsaber fighting by none other than your very own Count Dooku!? Obi-Wan simply replied, ?Funny. I trained the man who killed him.? The battle continued.

?You fight well,? Grievous said, ?But how can you help but fail when I?? Two lightsabers became four as his artificial arms split. Now a flurry of blades assaulted Obi-Wan, but the Force was with him, as it was not with the murderous cyborg. Grievous gave a wordless cry of shock and dismay as Obi-Wan?s single blade found its mark, severing the wrist of one of his hands. He was down to three lightsabers, but maybe he could pull it out. The blade fell again, but this time his cry held more than a little fear. He was down to just two lightsabers, now. Not good. A quick glance at the sky multiplied his fear tenfold. The sky was filled with Republic troopships, and scores of clone soldiers were rappelling down, filling the air with gunfire. There was no way he could win this now, not against these odds. If the Jedi didn't get him the clones would. Fear became desperation. Like an insect or a lizard he scuttled away from his foe on all fours, abandoning the fight, not caring which direction he was going as long as it was away. He knew where he would go, oh yes, the depths of the city and the modified fightercraft hidden there. Leaping as only a Kaleesh could, he mounted a jetbike and took off. An odd cry resounded behind him. Obi-Wan was coming, riding on a large lizard he?d seen the natives riding sometimes. ?Not again.? The Jedi was coming up fast, surprising him by jumping on the jetbike and wrestling him for control of it. Pushing and shoving, they paid no mind to the fact that they were still going full speed. ?You fool,? he snarled, kicking Obi-Wan in the face at point blank range. ?You?ll get us both killed!? Indeed, the jetbike was careening toward the drydock, heading full tilt for the runway, at the end of which was a cliff. ?Wonderful.? Time was short. Grievous did the only thing he could think of? he jumped off the bike. The Force was with Obi-Wan once again, enabling him to grab the edge of the runway and avoid falling. This wasn?t good. It would be only a moment before the Jedi was on him again and he was weaponless. This is bad, this is REALLY bad... Looking around desperately, he spotted something that could prove to be his salvation. There, by the far wall, next to the ship that had be

Ask and ye shall receive, for here is Chapter 3... Reversal.

The sight of the thick red beam tore open something in his mind, wrenching him out of reality, right out of the fight, back to the bloodstained fields of Kalee, back to that day? It wasn?t a dream, this time. How could a dream feel so real? He could smell the blood spilled on the grass, feel the hot wind? And were those really Huk over there? The mysterious leader once again stepped to the fore, rallying them all against the foe. He cringed in anticipation, knowing what would come next, and yet the red beams from nowhere (he knew them now, he KNEW them!) tore a cry of pain loose from his throat?

?A cry of pain that echoed in the real world. Obi-Wan didn?t know what to think when his enemy?s carbine dropped from suddenly nerveless hands. An instant later Grievous himself dropped as well, falling to his knees. The eyes were blank, devoid of menace, of even awareness, as if the cyborg?s mind was gone. Here was a chance to end the hunt, to eliminate this threat from the galaxy once and for all? but the Force swirled around him, silently screaming for him to spare his fallen foe. Calling upon its light, he saw his enemy?s mind lost in an inner conflict, lies and betrayal being realized at last.

?Again he was looking into his own face. The dream had never gone this far before, not even close? The other General Grievous lay dying at his feet, blood bubbling in his chest. ?Gavros,? he gurgled weakly. Gavros? Who was that? And why did that name sound so familiar? It was his face, but not his voice. His true voice came next as he himself spoke. ?Great leader, please, you must save your strength?? A soft chuckle followed his statement, dissolving into a bloody cough. ?You must listen, Gavros. My time is short now.? He fell silent, listening to this alien voice. ?You have ever been the only one I trust. With me gone, leadership falls to you. The Huk? They must be stopped. It?s up to you. Keep our people safe. The Huk War? could mean the end? of the Kaleesh?? He didn?t have the heart to point out that he was fatally wounded himself. No, he would let the other die with hope. The last few words mingled with a chilling rattle, the shattered body relaxing in death. No, it couldn?t be, he?d lived! A roar from above drew his attention, filling his dying mind with fear. It landed and droids emerged, far more than he could count. Then there came a short yet intimidating figure in a black cloak. ?Take him,? the figure ordered in a voice that chilled him. ?No, take them both.?

Obi-Wan didn?t need the Force to tell him that whatever was going on in Grievous?s mind was shaking the cyborg deeply. Still, he felt he had to know more. This could be the key to everything. Calling upon the Force, he eased himself into the turbulence of the other?s thoughts. He prepared for anything, but no amount of preparation was enough?

The one in black, Darth Sidious he had called himself, had chained him to a wall. The dead General lay upon an operating table, blood clotting thickly in the ragged cape. He tried to look fearless, but he knew for a fact that he was now anything but. ?Infidel!? Verbal defiance was all he could manage, and even that was hard now. ?Do not desecrate the corpse of the great General Grievous!? The only response was a chilling laugh. ?Ah, but he is not General Grievous,? the frightening voice said, "You are.? Defiance became confusion. ?But I?m?? The world erupted in a fountain of pain. The pain, both remembered and real, along with these revelations, shattered something deep inside him, something he hadn?t even known was there, and the homicidal rage that had been his constant companion since his transformation suddenly fell away, leaving behind a whole different soul. ?Sidious? changed me? I?m not who I thought I was??

    Chapter 4... Traitor

Obi-Wan returned to himself to hear Grievous speaking. His voice sounded different, as if he was hearing someone else entirely. ?It was all a lie? The real General Grievous never left Kalee!? The cyborg was still down on his knees, looking at his hands as if they were something alien to him. ?Lord Sidious said the Jedi did this to me that day? But he himself did it! That means? my revenge?? Obi-Wan almost struck him down right then and there upon hearing the wordless roar that followed those words? until he recognized it as a howl of shame, of grief and guilt. ?I have disgraced myself? brought shame upon all of Kalee!? He drew out the two remaining lightsabers he still possessed. ?Trophies? taken in victory? now tokens of misguided slaughter!? He flung them over the edge with a growl of disgust. Seeing that, Obi-Wan shut off his lightsaber. His opponent obviously didn?t want to fight anymore. However, the sound of the lightsaber attracted Grievous?s (or was he now?) attention. ?You,? he said in a surprisingly gentle voice, ?You are a Jedi.? He bowed his head, still kneeling at the Jedi?s feet. ?I offer myself up to your justice for the murder of your comrades.? Obi-Wan knew his orders: track down and eliminate General Grievous. And the cyborg believed his death would bring justice. ?Justice? You seek forgiveness through death? I have a better idea. Come with me. Join the Republic and aid us in the battle against your former master! Undo some of the damage done! Make your own redemption? Gavros.? The cyborg looked up. ?You know? my real name?? His voice was uncertain, yet held a growing note of hope. Obi-Wan didn?t have to say anything. He didn?t need the Force to tell him that ?Grievous? would have smiled if he could.

However, he did jump as the cyborg stood up quickly. ?General Kenobi? No, Kenobi? I must warn you! Lord Sidious spoke to me of something called Order 66? Your clone soldiers are to murder all Jedi!? Obi-Wan saw no lie through the Force. ?Grievous? was telling the absolute truth as he saw it. Picking up his comlink, he did the only thing he could think of: he activated a little-known program called the All-Jedi Alert. Used only in the direst of circumstances, this beacon, emanating from the Jedi Temple itself, would signal all Jedi to pack up and scatter. A smile crossed his face. He could envision the Masters and Knights rushing around, hustling the little Initiates along, packing everything they could grab. And he could imagine the Knights on assignments elsewhere handing down command to their subordinates and taking off. ?There,? he said. ?They?ll be safe now.? There was no reply. A quick look told him that the cyborg was down in a crouch like some kind of big cat. ?They are safe,? he said to Obi-Wan, ?But you are not.? A smattering of laser beams burst over their heads. It was just as ?Grievous? had predicted. The cyborg was already on the move, rising from his crouch and moving toward the fightercraft in the corner, down on all fours. ?Time is short,? he said quickly. ?Come! I will get you to your ship.? With almost unnatural feline grace he leapt up on the fightercraft?s wing, then scuttled like an insect to the cockpit. Slipping inside with artful grace, his talons flew over the controls at a speed only one cybernetically enhanced could ever hope to achieve without the aid of the Force. The ship sprang to life, the engines humming. ?Get on!? Obi-Wan wasn?t sure of this plan. ?But how is this?? This time it wasn?t a request but an order. ?Get on!? Not knowing what else to do, he did as he was told. The ship lifted up, under the expert control of a pilot who outshone even Anakin. ?Hang on!? The ride was surprisingly smooth, as no one knew to look for a Jedi riding on the ship of the famed Jedi-hater General Grievous. ?Over there! It?s over there!? The reply came, the voice still powerful and deep but all the menace gone. ?I see it.? The ship began to descend.

?Great,? Obi-Wan growled. ?It would have to be heavily guarded. Can

I don't mean to say I hate that, but its just strange. No OFFENCE! I DONT WANT TO BE RUDE![face_worried]

I was gonna take care of that, you know... Anyway, here's Chapter 5: Truth

?Now that we have a free moment, I have a request. I?d have asked you earlier to leave off with the annoying nickname, but we were kind of busy. Could you please just call me Obi-Wan from now on?? The cyborg left off restlessly cleaning his cape and said, ?All right. That?s the literal translation from the Kaleesh language, but I suppose Basic works just as well. My mistake, I suppose.?

It wasn?t long before the dropship was visible in the sky and ?Grievous? was actually arguing with his second in command. ??Yes, I mean the Jedi, too! ?For your information, no, I did not hit my head on anything or walk too close to a magnet, and the latter possibility wouldn?t even matter because I?m not a droid, you jerk! ?Don?t make me pull rank on you, soldier! ?Look, if you don?t let me onboard with the Jedi I?ll reboot your motherboard so hard your creator will feel it!? The other obviously gave in to the increasingly angry threats, for the dropship landed and admitted them aboard.

Obi-Wan plunged further and further into the depths of sheer disbelief with each passing moment as they rode up to the flagship of the Droid Army. Out of all the things that could have happened, he was currently living the least expected one. Anakin will never believe this, he thought. Master Yoda said the Force works in mysterious ways, but he didn?t say anything about just plain bizarre. Restless, ?Grievous? paced back and forth like a huge cat, staying between him and the door. ?Stay close to me, Obi-Wan. I don?t trust my subordinates. Many of them are programmed to be loyal to Lord Sidious even at my expense. We may even end up having to fight them.? The docking procedures finished and the door opened. ?Grievous? exited first and looked out upon the gathered guards. ?Hold your fire,? he growled. Obi-Wan made his first appearance and the droid guards let off their first volley. ?Grievous? was a hurricane of raging fury, actually taking out the leader of the guards, crouching over the sparking shell like a lion with a fresh kill. ?I said hold your fire,? he snarled loudly, ?The next one who fires gets reprogrammed the hard way!? The guards backed down, allowing Obi-Wan to pass. ?We?re heading for my personal chambers first if you don?t mind,? he said to the Jedi. ?I?d like to make a few repairs before anything else happens. Something tells me I?m going to need it.?

The hiss of a pneumatic door heralded entry into a room filled with various tools. ?Grievous? got right to work. ?This shouldn?t take long, Obi-Wan. Feel free to poke around. There isn?t much to see.? Obi-Wan looked around. There really wasn?t much to see? But wait. Tucked away in the corner of a low shelf, was a necklace made of carved bone and what had to be seashells on a crude, partially frayed rope. The sheer contrast of this organic-looking object in such a sterile, lifeless environment gave him pause. He politely refrained from staring. ?You don?t have to pretend, Obi-Wan. I already know what you?re looking at.? He turned to face ?Grievous?, who had bowed his head low in remembered grief. His voice was low and soft as he said, ?Her name was Ylenia. I don?t know which of us she loved? Grievous or Gavros. But she was my wife. She gave me that vssh-shell necklace before the battle that day? She said it would bring me luck.? He sighed. ?I don?t know what happened to her? or to my family. I lost track of all of Kalee after Lord Sidious took me. The Huk were trying to exterminate us? I remember that much. The war had devastated the whole of our world, unleashing upon us a great famine like nothing seen before, even in our darkest legends. The seas were barren? The cliffs were almost sterile in the absence of life there. The forests were gone, the prairies leveled. We were starving, even as we fought the Huk. I remember turning to the Republic for aid? I think that was Grievous. But the Galactic Senate denied me. The Huk had brib

As requested *coughdemandedcough*, here is Chapter 6: Resistance. A little shorter, but what can I say?

The bridge crew snapped to attention as the two of them stepped onto the bridge. They knew their leader, but the presence of a Jedi put them on alert. ?Transmission Control, alter ship identification signal. I know this may sound odd, but I remain your General and you will obey me. We are no longer the Invisible Hand. Register us as the Pride of Kalee. Change our allegiance beacon as well. We?re switching sides. We are the mighty Droid Army, and we shall serve Lord Sidious?s lies no longer! Henceforth we are sworn to oppose him in all things, and to that end I declare our allegiance to the Republic!? The reply was immediate, and unfavorable. ?Refusal to serve Master. Traitor. Eliminate.? ?Grievous? leapt to the side and Obi-Wan brought out his lightsaber as the droids began to fire upon them. Wasting no more time on words, he leapt for the ship-to-ship transmitter. ?You turn against me,? he snarled, ?But I planned for this!? Seizing the droid manning the console in lethal talons, he shredded it with one powerful motion and tossed it aside. He began to type something on the console. ?I didn?t plan very well, but I did plan,? he said. Two arms became four as he made his entry as fast as he could. Meanwhile Obi-Wan was holding his own as only a Jedi could. The Force alerted him to the presence of one of the elite guards, brandishing a Force Pike, charging straight for ?Grievous?. ?Gavros!? It was too late. The Force Pike swung down, the electrified tip aimed straight for the cyborg?s vulnerable back. A horrific cry rent the air, accompanied by a huge surge of electricity. A bright flash blotted out everything for a moment.

Obi-Wan looked again to see that ?Grievous? was down, slumped forward on his knees, the Force Pike still sticking out of his back. A long moment passed. Incredibly, the fallen cyborg began to move. ?You are mistaken if you think I would give you weapons that could kill me! Hurt me, maybe, but not kill me! ? The voice was soft at first as ?Grievous? slowly began to struggle to his feet, but with each word it grew to a defiant roar. He reached up, yanked the Force Pike right out of his back and thrust it clean through his attacker. Turning back to the computer, he quickly finished what he had been doing. There was a sharp buzz as all the droids stopped what they were doing and simply went back to their posts as if nothing had happened. ?Emergency override,? he explained unnecessarily. ?You said the Jedi are safe. Where have they gone?? Obi-Wan replied, ?Since I activated the All-Jedi Alert, they?re probably in a convoy headed for the Outer Rim. With the clones turning there must have been a coup in the Senate. I bet a lot of people followed the Jedi out. I only hope Anakin made it out all right. He?d have happily thrown all chance of escape if Padme were in danger.? ?Grievous? repeated that name questioningly. Obi-Wan said, ?He loves her. They try to hide it but it?s obvious. I haven?t got the heart to tell him that everybody already knows. Even Master Yoda has decided to let it be. He says to part them now would have disastrous consequences for the whole galaxy. I suspect Master Yoda?s already told him. I?ll bet he?s feeling very happy right now.? ?Grievous? answered, ?I know how that feels. It was considered very unbecoming to consort with those of lower rank, but I so loved Ylenia?? Obi-Wan said, ?It?s universal, then. Enough wasting time, though. I?ll give you the coordinates of where the convoy should be.?

Same deal as always. Read, review, get more. How much easier can it get?

We'll see... For now, Chapter 7: Alliance

The convoy was far bigger than it would have been had there been only Jedi. Obi-Wan could tell that many civilians had fled as well. The convoy?s flagship had spotted them the moment they dropped out of hyperspace, and from the look of things nobody believed the altered identification signal. ?Grievous? spoke up. ?Should I contact them? ?I?ll contact them. Obi-Wan, you do the talking. They?d just shoot me on sight.?

?It?s me, Master Yoda.? The little green Jedi Master looked more shocked than Obi-Wan had ever seen him. ?Knight Kenobi? Get the Droid Army flagship how did you? Behind you General Grievous is!? The cyborg jumped at being seen. He?d thought he was offscreen. Obi-Wan replied, ?It?s a long story. Believe it or not, the entire Droid Army is defecting to our side.? Yoda said, ?Correct you were on one count, Knight Kenobi. Believe it I do not.? Just then, ?Grievous? spoke up. ?You are Yoda, am I right? Your Force powers allow you to sense lies and deceit, am I correct? What do you see from me?? Yoda closed his eyes, drawing upon the Force. When he spoke, his voice literally shook with the shock he was feeling. ?Sincere are you. You truly wish to join us.? The cyborg politely backed down and Obi-Wan stepped back up. ?Come to this ship you can. Wish to thank you for your timely warning many friends do.? And that was all.

The ride over to the Jedi flagship wasn?t nearly as tense as the ride to the Invisible Hand? now the Pride of Kalee? had been. For the first time since the battle that had changed so much more than his life, ?Grievous? felt he could wear the vssh-shell necklace given him by his lost wife. Such a pretty ornament probably looked incredibly out of place around the slender neck of a cyborg who for many years had been a ruthless killer, but now he felt he could be true to what he had once been. ?This time you go first, Obi-Wan. This time we?re walking into the exact opposite situation as before.? Obi-Wan nodded and went first. ?Grievous? nervously fidgeted, a habit he had never displayed before. ?You?re nervous,? Obi-Wan said. The cyborg replied, ?Obi-Wan, I don?t know whether they?re going to welcome me or kill me. I don?t know what to do. I?ve been welcomed, and I?ve been hated. But not at once. Never at once.?

The door opened and Obi-Wan stepped out. Pretty much every important Jedi was there, save for Mace Windu and a few others. They must not have made it out, he realized. They all looked glad to see him. Things seemed to be going well? until ?Grievous? took his first hesitant step out. Anakin, brash and semi-clueless as usual, cried out, ?Master, behind you!? As he spoke he ignited his lightsaber and leaped to attack. The cyborg made no move to retaliate or even try to defend himself. He merely cringed, futher betraying how much he had changed. Obi-Wan ignited his own lightsaber to block Anakin?s. ?Nice to see some things haven?t changed,? he said wryly. ?Anakin, he?s on our side now. Weren?t you listening to a word Master Yoda said?? The young Jedi backed down, feeling more like the Hero With No Brains than the Hero With No Fear. ?Grievous? straightened up, looking a little sheepish about not trying to block the attack. Anakin looked him dead in the eye and growled, ?You may have them fooled, but you haven?t fooled me! I?ll be watching you. If you so much as step out of line, I?ll separate your head from your shoulders!? With that one outburst, he quietly backed off. ?Grievous? replied, ?I swore not to harm my new allies, but I will defend myself if need be. I don?t want to fight you, Skywalker? Anakin.? The young Jedi snarled, ?It?s Skywalker to you! Only my friends can call me Anakin, and you are not my friend!? Then he stomped out of the room. ?Grievous? drooped a little, saddened by the blatant rejection. If the other Jedi had needed further proof of the cyborg?s change in allegiance, that little exchange had been more than enough. It had

    Time for some butt-kicking.

Months passed. There were many battles and close calls, many brushes with death and many near misses in their attempts to dethrone the new Emperor, whom ?Grievous? was quite surprised to find was also Darth Sidious and the Supreme Chancellor he?d once abducted. That had enraged the cyborg to the point where he swore that he would be satisfied with nothing less than killing the evil man himself. In each battle ?Grievous? had more than demonstrated to all of them just why so many people had feared him. He was truly a ruthless, insanely powerful warrior, more than a match for any Jedi.

The battle on the planet?s great plateau surface shifted in the Rebels? favor with the arrival of ?Grievous?. The tide of just about any battle couldn?t help but turn once he entered the fray, four lightsabers slashing through any enemy in reach as he waded through the melee all around him, seemingly untouchable in the chaos. His lightning-fast reflexes allowed him to counter pretty much every attack sent at him, and his armor took care of the rest. Across the way his keen eyes could pick out a form in a black cloak. His calm in the face of battle shattered into a frenzy of pure rage. ?Sidious!? He roared the name at the top of his lungs as he began to press forward in earnest, trying to shear a path through the ranks of the enemy, pushing forward in an attempt to reach and challenge the one he hated so much. ?Gavros, no!? Obi-Wan would have stopped the angry cyborg if he could. As it was, he pressed his attack even harder. Anakin followed him, more preoccupied with the possibility of seeing the cyborg die than anything else. The other Jedi joined in, all of them cutting forward in an attempt to catch up to ?Grievous?.

?At last we meet again, Sidious.? ?Grievous? hacked through the last opposition and stepped into the open to face the black-cloaked self-proclaimed Emperor. Brandishing all four of his lightsabers, he snarled, ?You will pay for lying to me about the fate of my people.? The other replied, ?It?s Emperor Palpatine now. Your Highness, to you.? The angry cyborg stepped forward and said, ?This ends here. I?ll kill you just like I did those poor Jedi while lost in your lies! Defend yourself!? Digging his talons into the ground for better traction, he leapt at his foe with a wordless Kaleesh battle cry he hadn?t uttered for years. He had to admit he hadn?t felt such pure savage joy since his transformation as he brought all four lightsabers forward to skewer his foe, this would feel so, so good? He barely had time to notice that his enemy?s hands were moving before he was enveloped in a storm of blue lightning, blazing bolts of sheer agony coursing through him, utterly paralyzing him right where he was, surging through his metallic limbs like fire, spasms shaking him, circuits overloading and shorting out, mind screaming in agony, make it stop by all the gods please make it stop? Sidious?s voice just barely entered his tortured brain over his own shriek of sheer pain. ?You would have lived had you not remembered, Gavros. Die now, knowing that your creator was also your destroyer.? Such pain?

And you thought my earlier cliffhanger was evil...

    Here is Chapter 9: Recovery.

Obi-Wan hadn?t arrived in time, but he was more than ready by the time he did arrive. Anakin had caught up to him, silently enjoying the cyborg?s screams of pain. Yoda had followed as well, the one Force-wielding Jedi dynamo ?Grievous? had never been able to touch in all his sparring attempts. The three of them faced Sidious; no, not the Emperor, to them he would always be Sidious; two determined to save their friend, one merely set on revenge. Behind the three, other Jedi were closing in, all united in their cause and desire. The black-clad monarch still held ?Grievous? in a grip of blue electric death; it had only been a second or two, but it seemed more than enough. He left off his Dark Side attack and retreated, knowing the Jedi would be too busy helping their friend to follow.

?Grievous? reeled as it ended, stumbling sideways, on the verge of collapse. ?It?s? over?? Both his biological and mechanical systems were in deep shock, almost unable to register that the brutal assault had ended. All four lightsabers shut off as they dropped from suddenly limp hands. Obi-Wan stepped closer to the gravely injured cyborg, close enough for ?Grievous? to see him. ?Obi?Wan?? He spoke in a wavering hissed croak, the mechanism that amplified his voice completely shorted out. Obi-Wan had to call upon the Force to boost his strength as the cyborg warrior finally fell, and even then trying to move him was a tough job. The other Jedi helped as best they could, though they eventually had to resort to wrapping him up in his cape to avoid being burned by his metal armor. There was no movement, no resistance from their seemingly lifeless burden as they took him back to the flagship that had become his home as well as theirs. They couldn?t decide between medbay and the repair bay, so on Obi-Wan?s recommendation they took him to his room. He?d remembered that ?Grievous? kept all the tools he needed for self-repair right there. Upon arriving all of them got right to work.

They could repair his mechanical systems, but not his biological systems, meaning he would be a little weak for a time. They knew ?Grievous? would absolutely hate it, but he was going to need a week or two of down time. When they had finished all the repairs that could be done, they simply laid him down in his regeneration tube to rest and recover on his own. He would awaken when he was good and ready to awaken, and not before.

Days passed, and still ?Grievous? did not awaken. Obi-Wan would come to visit him sometimes, to quietly offer what silent moral support he could, and Padme would visit as well, softly pleading with him to fight it and awaken. She had grown to enjoy his friendship greatly. He was so polite to her, so chivalrous and kind, and he always called her ?Lady Padme?. Yoda would come as well, using his great strength in the Force to peek into the cyborg?s inactive mind, keeping tabs on his mental progress as he slowly began to recover from his injuries. The other Jedi would come visit as well because he had become a valued ally and dear friend by then. Sometimes Anakin would visit as well when no one was looking, lightsaber in hand, thinking of how much he would like to end the cyborg?s life then and there. One slash would be all it would take, maybe through the slender neck, or a quick swipe across the silvery chest? Perhaps a stab instead, straight through the heart hidden beneath all that armor? But no, he couldn?t do that. It wasn?t the Jedi way to simply slaughter one who was considered an ally, and an unconscious one at that. Maybe if he could find a reason to kill him? or at least an excuse?

What can I say? No, really, what can I say? Read, review, get more.
