    From Insider #75, page 38:

"[Amy Allen] portrayed Aayla Secura, a blue skinned Twi'lek Jedi, for the Episode I DVD. In a modification to the theatrical version of The Phantom Menace, Senator Orn Free Taa's formerly human-filled pod was instead populated with Twi'leks.
Allen later reprised her character, which had originated as a comic-book figure, as a last minute addition to the cast of Episode II."

So Aayla Secura retroactively appears in the "Sorta-Special Edition" of Episode I. Interesting. I wonder what she was doing in Senator Taa's pod...

TPM is before she and Quinlan are suffering amnesia, as they are fine as of the events in Emissaries to Malastare, which takes place a year or so after TPM.

Still, we have seen Padawans escorting senators before... like in a certain movie.

Of course, she looked kind of old for her age. ;)

The TPM DVD has some extra scenes in it - the air taxi which takes Padme & co to their hotel, extened podrace scenes, etc.

Yeah, they replaced the cameo of the two human costume desigenrs with Twi'leks in the DVD.

Though we knew Amy ahd played a blue twi'lek for that replacement in TPM (a reason she was later brought back to play Aayla in AOTC), this is the first time I've seen her TPM character as being labeled as Aayla.

And, I think SWI is just mistaken in this instance, because Aayla was out with Quinlan looking into the Ryllspice situation during TPM.

I agree with The2ndQuest, no doubt "Star Wars Insider" is mistaken in labelling the blue Twi'lek aide to Orn Free Taa that Amy Allen portrayed for the Episode I DVD as being Aayla Secura. During Qui-Gon & Obi-Wan's stay on Tatooine in Episode I, Quinlan and Aayla were also on Tatooine.

However, one could suggest they left Tatooine around the same time and that Aayla was on an undercover mission in the Senate, but that would be stretching... a simple error by "Star Wars Insider" seems more likely to be the case here.

(Such errors can occurr, the Dutch Star Wars Fact Files entry for Aayla Secura has 2 errors in it.)

Edit: If you look at the starwars.com databank entry for Aayla Secura, it does not mention her being in Epsiode I and actually only highlights her as being in Episode II and III.

I always had the impression a lot of characters where amnesiatic during TPM.

    >And, I think SWI is just mistaken in this instance, because Aayla was out with Quinlan looking into the Ryllspice situation during TPM.<

And what better way to investigate then by going undercover as an escort the the Senator from Ryloth? Surely Taa was mixed up in the black spice market somehow.

This is definitely a question for the Jedi Council at SW.com. I'll ask...

He could be involved in the spice trade either directly or indirectly. By directly I mean he has his hand in the till. He may not have been actually dealing in spice, but he may have been making it possible for others to get away with doing so without having to face any legal entanglements. By indirectly I mean he may have had friends who were extremely active in the spice buisness and he had no clue about it. She may have gone undercover to get close to him in order to expose him or to use him in order to get close to those friends and take them down. Since he's still a senator well after that time, is it possible the later is the case?

It's just a mistake made by Insider, nothing more. Lucas only put Aayla in AOTC, and that's it. End of discussion. :)

But they were also never intended to be the same character. ;)

The DVD's tend to contain easter eggs. I find it possible that at the time the TPM DVD came out that Lucas could have already decided to use Aayla in AotC and worked her in as an easter egg to the TPM DVD without saying it was her so as to make things "intresting".

Well, Amy Allen did also play 3 other -cameo- characters in "Attack Of The Clones" (that obviously weren't Aayla Secura).
