I've heard the song a couple of times, but never really payed attention to the lyrics till today...really made me think.

    Here is the lyrics:

    Happy Birthday...so make a wish

    Verse 1:
Please accept my apologies, wonder what would have been
Would you've been a little angel or an angel of sin?
Tom-boy running around, hanging with all the guys.
Or a little tough boy with beautiful brown eyes?
I payed for the murder before they determined the sex
Choosing our life over your life meant your death
And you never got a chance to even open your eyes
Sometimes I wonder as a fetus if you faught for your life?
Would you have been a little genius in love with math?
Would you have played in your schoolclothes and made me mad?
Would you have been a little rapper like your papa da Piper?
Would you have made me quit smokin' by finding one of my lighters?
I wonder about your skintone and shape of your nose?
And the way you would have laughed and talked fast or slow?
Think about it every year, so I picked up a pen
Happy birthday, love you whoever you woulda been
    Happy birthday...

    Chorus:
All I thought was a dream (make a wish)
Was as real as it seemed (happy birthday)
All I thought was a dream (make a wish)
Was as real as it seemed

    I made a mistake!

    Verse 2:
I've got a millon excuses to why you died
Bet the people got their own reasons for homicide
Who's to say it woulda worked, and who's to say it wouldn't have?
I was young and strugglin' but old enough to be your dad
The fear of being a father has never disappeared
Pondering frequently while I'm zippin' on my beer
My vision of a family was artificial and fake
So when it came time to create I made a mistake
Now you've got a little brother maybe he's really you?
Maybe you really forgave us knowin' we was confused?
Maybe everytime that he smiles it's you proudly knowin' that your father's doin' the right thing now?
I never tell a woman what to do with her body
But if she don't love children then we can't party
Think about it every year, so I picked up a pen
Happy birthday, love you whoever you woulda been
    Happy birthday...

    Chorus:
All I thought was a dream (make a wish)
Was as real as it seemed (happy birthday)
All I thought was a dream (yeah, make a wish)
Was as real as it seemed

    I made a mistake!

And from the heavens to the womb to the heavens again
From the endin' to the endin', never got to begin
Maybe one day we could meet face to face?
In a place without time and space
    Happy birthday...

From the heavens to the womb to the heavens again
From the endin' to the endin', never got to begin
Maybe one day we could meet face to face?
In a place without time and space
    Happy birthday...

    Chorus:
All I thought was a dream (make a wish)
Was as real as it seemed (happy birthday)
All I thought was a dream (make a wish)
Was as real as it seemed

    I made a mistake...!

I've always been pro-choice but damn, this song really makes me we want to reconsider. Lots of thoughts go throuhg my mind when hearing this song. A womans body is her own, but...is it really? Yes I know it can be careless to bring a child in to this world if the circumstances arent right, but again it is a human life.

Am I being a wuss, or does this song really have a strong messesage?

You aren't being a wuss. You are seeing the options from another view point and it is making you think. The message in that song conveys alot of the emotion that comes post abortion.

I don't think you're a wuss, it's extremelly common for women to have thoughts like the ones expressed in the lyrics of that song. It's only human, regardless of what the circumstances were that led to having an abortion. While I'm pro-choice to an extent, I wouldn't personally have one myself.

The words are indeed touching...but they cover one side of things... they are not enough to sway me.. I am pro choice.. Choice, meaning the decision is entirely up to the individual.. meaning I repect the opinions of those who are pro life.. even though I don't agree with them... It's a very personal thing, and it effects anybody who faces this situation... so therefore cannot be generalized in a black and white way... it is neither right or wrong..it is an individuals unique case.

Someone felt bad about abortion and wrote a song about it. What's the fuss?

Yes, the choice is one person's alone -- the mother's.

G-d help the father who's 50% responsible in any decision making...

Just a suggestion on this thread. Keep it contained to the lyrics and emotions surrounding abortion so we don't get a train wreck and I have to mod. :p Oh, and the first person to say "Bible" in this thread is banned. ;) Stick to the song lyrics/emotions.

The Bible says everyone should have 2-3 abortions in their lifetime or we can't get into heaven. I think it was Jebus that said that. So we have to do it.

I'm pro-choice provided an abortion is done early. None of that partial birth stuff. At some point the women's right to choose should end.

i am pro-choice and will always remain that way.

people need to realize that the debate isn't over whether abortion is good or not. no one in their right mind would actually enjoy an abortion. pregnant women don't wake up in the morning and say "Ahh, it's a nice day, I think I'll go have an abortion!" *walks away happily* i mean really, it is a sad thing, even when it is necessary. the debate, rather, is over whether a woman has the right to choose or not. and on that issue i remain firmly pro-choice.

I think those words in my head each month an egg passes through my body unused and each time a guy I'm involved with ejaculates without a baby resulting.

Seriously, possibilities aren't a thing to beat yourself up over. There are a thousand potential lives you could have lived but you didn't. It's not another full human it's just potential. Even the body will naturally get rid of it at times. No soup for you.
