By this I mean, no matter how bad the movie maybe surrounding them, that particular actor or actress makes watching a film that much easier.

For actors: Morgan Freeman, the guy just comes across as a class act in everything he does.
Ewan McGregor, to me he made the prequels worth watching.

I can't think of any actresses right now but some may come to mind later.

Ian McDiarmid seems to brighten up (in terms of quality, rather than emotion) every film he steps into. It's just his way.

Michael Cain is always right on. Everything from start to now has been really good. I liked him in The Man who Would be King the most.

Michelle Yeoh has been realy good. I havnt seen her in a movie where she gave a weak performance.

we'll...probably the whole cast of Batman IMO is just great.

I like Michael Caine and Depp. Both good answers.

Of course, the most underrated, underappreciated, undervalued man in ALL of hollywood: Bruce Campbell. :p

Personal life aside, I'd say Russell Crowe has yet to make a bad movie. Well, Virtuosity, but that was Denzel's picture to carry, not Crowe's.

Meryl Streep, Michael Caine, and Morgan Freeman. John Gielgud was one of those kind of actors, too. Great in everything he was involved in , even if the project was crap.

I'll say Tom Hanks. I've never seen a bad Tom Hanks movie, and his performances are always stellar.

Morgan Freeman is OK, but he's pretty predictable in his style and he only ever plays two characters. The high ranking official or the poor and uneducated or downtrodden. Whenever I see a film with him in it I think - which are you this time.

Someone I like in every film I have seen him in is Gary Oldman.

Morgan Freeman is a great actor, but he's typecast as the moral center of every movie.

Exactly. This is no more evident that his selection to play God in Bruce Almighty. Who else would you get to play God? It's Morgan Freeman or no-one.

Dreamcatcher wasn't elevated much by the presence of Freeman. It certainly wasn't his finest moment :p

...meh, i think alot of people just didn't comprehend the spirit with which you were supposed to take "Dreamcatcher" in..

I mean, you've got a movie about aliens that come out of your poophole.

People tried to take it much more seriously then they should have...

    [face_thinking] ...

...no, it blew big chunks no matter what spirit you take it in.

Morgan looked like he took it seriously. Or maybe that's just good acting [face_money_eyes]

As far as Mr. Freeman, see this.

There's some grown-up language, just so you know.

I really like Christopher Walken. His earlier roles in the 80's showed a bit more diversity then some of the stuff he's doing now, though.

I prefer the nerdy scientist in Brainstorm or the conflicted teacher with ESP in The Dead Zone - those were some really good performances of his. He seemed much more approachable as a character. Recently though, he's taken on the tough gangster type a few too many times for my taste. But, then again, I've not seen a lot of his most recent stuff lately. Has he done anything in the last few years where he's NOT a gangster?

Gene Hackman is my personal favorite as an actor. I thought he was really solid in "Mississippi Burning" and "Unforgiven".

John Cusack, the man is great in the movies he's in. The movies may not be the best, but he still does a great job.

How about Catch Me If You Can? Walken is just a loser in that movie. A nice Dad, but a loser.
