I need premier guru's in here.

I got a small bit of film of me swinging a saber to start learning rotoscoping for lightsabers.

Im currently using a Dell PC *sad for me* with Pinnacle Studio deluxe and Adobe Premiere 6.5

    http://www.pinnaclesys.com/ProductPage_n.asp?Product_ID=520&Langue_ID=7

I am able to input video using the Studio 8 software that came with the deluxe, But I wanna be able to directly take it in to Premiere. I am using a sony 8mm player to play the 8mm tapes using regular RCA jacks on the Deluxe plug in panel.

But I haven't a clue what settings I wanna use on premiere for it to recongize the stupid pinnacle card. I've tried quicktime, video for windows and several different compression standards, and I still am not able to see the preview of the film coming in, and everytime I try to chang the Capture to Video for windows, Premier freaks and crashes!!

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I use Premiere, but I have DV and a firewire.

I would suggest looking in the manual.

Also, make sure your video camera is plugged in and turned on BEFORE you start Premiere

Don't quote me on this, but the exposure that I have had to software that comes with a capture card (I'm assuming that you have the Pinnacle with the firewire card that also has a serial port for the add on analog input) that you are only going to be able to use that input with the software that came with it. I know dazzle (I hate this program with a passion) works like that, and I wouldn't be surprised if Pinnacle did too (it keeps you buying thier software if you want to continue to use the input). So, more importantly: how you fix your problem... You have three options. 1. Capture using the Pinnacle software, then import that file into Premiere (probably the easiest way to do it). 2. Get an actual analog capture card that physically goes into your computer (a costly way to do it). 3. Or you could just hope you have better luck in your next life (this way requires the most patience). Good luck, and I hope this helps...

I have this exact same problem!! With firewire, though. I have ulead media studio(crappy software that came with the card), and it won't capture in premiere, so to try to solve the problem, I captured the video, and tried to edit it in premiere, but it was in an .avi file that premiere freaked out over it, and crashed, so I have to capture in premiere, then filter it through After Effects, and then I can use it in premiere

Hmm, if you have Premiere, ditch the Pinnacle crap, but a cheapy firewire card from Fry's or wherever, and capture straight from premiere. I am guessing your 8mm is a digital 8 correct? Otehrwise, you'll have to keep that pinnacle crap to capture analog and that sux.

No, its Analog 8mm, so I can't do firewire.

Eww, so you are stuck with that craptacular Pinnacle board. Premiere should read an AVI with no problems. I used to capture analog with a Pinnacle DV300, which is for sale BTW, and then import the AVI into Premiere from there.
