in order for you to burn dvd's from premiere pro, you need to have adobe encore. that's what i learned but i don't have encore, i burn DVD's with Sonic DVD which is fine for me, for now.

I beleive that statement is untrue. You dont need Encore to burn a DVD from Premiere. A problem I have run into is when I have an Anti-Virus running. Disconnect your machine from the net, and disable your anti-virus. That will probably fix your problem. And turn off any DVD player software you may have running in the background like WinDVD or whatever....

I ran into problems with the Export to DVD function of Premiere Pro when Hyperthreading was enabled. Try turning that off.

I had read that to about HT. What version of pro are you runing, 1.0 or 1.5? It should not be a problem with HT with 1.5, but defintley disable your anti-virus. I got that straight from the Adobe forums and it fixed my problem.

It's Premiere 1.5. It was a rather odd phenomenon to track down too. If a project was under 39 minutes, it seemed to burn without an issue. Anything after that developed a case of "unknown errors" during the encoding phase. Even if the project is under 39 minutes, I'd still try it without HT. The anti-virus option doesn't surprise me though, however you would think Adobe would have accounted for that in their QA testing since every PC on the planet should have some kind of virus software on it.

One thing about HT- when you have it on, you can temporarily assign a program to just 1 processor in the task manager. I believe it's called assigning the "affinity". Anyways, once you have the program running, just go into the task manager and you should be able to assign the affinity to just one processor and that seemed to do the trick too.

That is interesting Jeremy, I have never had a problem with HT enabled. I have done several projects that are over 90 minutes and under 30 minutes. As long as I have the AV on, anything over 20-30 minutes always crashes with some stupid error.

I am not disputing your experience, but it is definitely soemthing that Adobe should have looked into. It can be very frustrating!

Yeah, the best thing I can say about that feature is that it is flaky at best. We usually just tell our users to export to DV AVI and then import it into a 3rd party DVD creation program. Sure would be nice not to have to do that, but I was getting sick of fielding service calls about the built in Export to DVD feature.
