Can't you just watch regular Star Wars like everyone else?

War, taxes, love, betrayal, vengence. The regular movies seem pretty adult to me.

What exactly do you mean adult oriented? I know you don't mean sex but what makes a show adult? Massive gore and violence? Dramatic themes of love, death, and intrigue? It would help the discussion if you defined what you felt is adult oriented.

    Band of Brothers.
    Sopranos.
    Six Feet Under.

All of those are "adult" shows without excessive gore, nudity, etc. for the most part (individual episodes here and there, yes...)...

    Band of Brothers.

I never watched it but I am familiar with the series concept. So what you want is a story line of Clone troopers expierencing the "horrors of war"? Um, the clones are conditioned, programmed, and trained not to have those thoughts or emotions. Might be kind of hard to do.

    Sopranos.

So you want Jabba saying poodoo every other word? That makes it adult? There is already a love triangle in Star Wars (OT) and the political intrigue in the PT far surpasses anything in the Sopranos. My opinion

    Six Feet Under.

I've only seen it once and it seemed to be a rehash of sex in the city except it was in a morgue.

Adult themed as opposed to kiddie fluff.

Let's face it: we're starved for scifi directed toward an adult market.

All of the Trek series were too soft and fuzzy. Even Enterprise is spending too much time being cutesy with references to stuff in the "future".

    Babylon5 and Farscape are gone.

Total Recall 2070 never got a chance. (Why the hell haven't they released the whole series on DVD!!!)

    Stargate has deteriorated.

As far as I'm concerned, the most adult-oriented scifi show I've ever seen was Blake's7, and that ran for 1978-81. It was great while Terry Nation was in charge, but, as invariablly happens, when he turns the show over to others, the shows start to plummet. Happened with B7, Survivors (the 70s show, not the modern "reality" crapshows), McGuyver, and others.

Even Doctor Who, one of my favorite shows, is somewhat psitzophenic--sometimes kiddie, sometimes serious.

So, what we need is a good, solid, well-written and consistant scifi show that pays attention to what is going on and has the characters fitting into the universe. It might be fun to do the Starwars universe. Rogue Squadron might be a good place to start. The Ewok jokes in the books would be good enough for the kiddie market without offending serious fans by actually including them.
I could see a good show evolving during the clone wars.
Hey, a show set between SW and ESB could be really good.
The thing is, it has to WANT to be good, and be Allowed to be good. The ewok movies sucked. Why? I think someone was going for the retro 70's kid's saturday afternoon adventure show rather than making a good movie.

George Takei has been trying to sell Paramount on a series based on Captain Sulu's missions on the Excellsior. It's unlikely to escape Trekitous, but it would at least be different.

I think there's a market for it. It's doable with current technology. It just has to actually happen.

You know, a really good fanflick could help get this started...

Something in the order of KnightQuest...
Something to get imaginations moving. Why settle for something some corporate sponsor is paying for. We can do it ourselves and broadcast it free over the internet.

Oh, that would take time, $, and a whole lot of expertise. Well, have we got anything better to do? Here we are browsing on the internet. People seem to be making fanfilms pretty cheaply. As for expertise...Fanfilms seem to be getting better and better.

So again, we're at "why not?"

i would enjoy seeing a drama that takes place in the star wars universe during the clone wars.

obiwan john brings up a good point.
the clones may not be able to feel the horrors of war but how about a story centered around a family whose been torn apart by the conflict.
a son sides with the republic, a father with the seperatists. and when the clones and droids come to their planet, they have to fight eachother.

its kinda like how the Civil War was.

If it's 'adult' it means there is either violence, nudity, or language. I don't want any of those in my SW, it just doesn't fit. So no.

They could easily make a Star Wars movie targeted more to adults, than children. I think ideas could be developed more, etc...
