Hey does anybody know how to do the Agent Smith bullet dodging effect? And also, does anyone know how to do the bullets going in slow motion leaving that blurry trail?

Agent Smith didn't do the recursive action dodge in The Matrix.

    *ahem*

Man, I wish people would at least ATTEMPT effects before asking other people to hold their hands and walk them through it. If you know the basics of your effects software, play around with it, and try to make the effect you're looking for. The agent dodge isn't a very tough effect to emulate, if you break it down.

Tell us what you tried beforehand, and we can tell you if you're on the right track.

Even though I appreciate the plug for my tutorial, I must agree with that last post.

And, actually, having my tutorial pointed out is helpfull for my next comment.

If you are a beginner with After Effects, my tutorial will help you understand some things you may not have seen before. I also recommend my cloning tutorial on the same page.

Following them step by step won't help you acheive the "Agent Dodge" effect. But they will teach you everything you need to know to do it.

    Always remember this:
Tutorials are not made to walk you through a process so you don't have to figure it out. They are made to teach. What you learn from the tutorials can be used for so many different things.

as a master Jedi once said: I always say in relation to my tutorials you MUST tinker with it, you got to play around and find what looks good what looks best and go with that

I'm guessing Fig...that you Duplicated the footage and shifted them a bit (though you shifted them a little too much), set the transfer mode to...well ADD would lighten it, SCREEN I think would do the samething. So what did you use?

I just tried it, it took me 2 minutes, and it came out very pleasing. I duplicated the footage 5 times, panned each one a second forward of the last one, shifted the transfer mode to screen, and dropped the opacity so it's not too bright as ObiJuan said.

    Quite straight forward, quite easy.

Edit: That's quite odd, I just forgot what the 'C' stands for in my sig [face_plain]

    when i did mine, I didn't even use a transfer mode, just set the opacity up progressively from 0% i.e (1st layer----> 25%, 2nd layer----> 50%, etc...)

    hm. as for bullet trails...

    in after effects:

    + new adjustment layer
+ mask(w/pen tool) on that layer
+ make feather around 6 pixels
+ choose the paint strokes effect and fiddle with it
    + keyframe your mask

    and VOILA

(my bullet trails) - clicka (you may wanna right click-save as so you can expand the size...)
^ was inspired by zap's bullet firing around his kids. i did it on my dad :)

yeah, its cheezy, but easier than in 3D i'd say.
