Lance Henriksen (Scream 3) has signed on for W.S. Anderson's Alien vs. Predator.

Henriksen played Bishop and Bishop II in the first Alien movies but will play an entirely new character this time around. This time, he will play a billionaire who finances a trip to Antarctica where a mysterious pyramid is discovered. Once they arrive there, they discover two alien races waging war.

Yeah there have been lots of bits and peices around on it. IIRC Dark Horizons has had a bunch of stories about it. Last one I remember was someone who said he saw them shooting stills for the teaser posters, at least thats what he assumed.

    Antarctica??? Pyramid???

    WTH?

It sounds like a bad ripoff of Stargate.

Oh well, at least Henrikson's on board...but I'd prefer him to be Bishop II again.

For me, the saga ended with Ripley dying.

So is Henriksen playing the creator or designer of the Bishop-model synthet- I mean artificial person 8-}?

I don't know how I like this, plot-wise, although it is cool that the Aliens are finally getting to earth.

By the way, Anderson has not made one movie I've liked yet, so hopefully he'll step it up with this one. I don't want him screwing up the Alien series worse than it already has been.

wow, I'm looking forward to it, but I'm really afraid they are going to botch it [face_plain]

I got this from IMDb "Hoping to lure a Predator clan to Antarctica using Alien eggs, a rogue team of scientists are caught in an intergalactic war between the two extremely violent species"

Why antartica ? IIRC the Aliens don't like the cold.

Anyways, Paul Anderson is set to direct. I loved Shopping, and Event Horizon, and Resident Evil was very watchable, so I'm holding out hope for this project.

    Exactly.

While it would be reasonable to believe the Predators have thermal units or some other neato piece of personal technology to survive such harsh conditions, the Aliens were always found in warm, moist environments.

    Antarctica is completely stupid.

I would like to see the Aliens get loose in New York or something.
Have them set up a hive in Madison Square Garden. (too bad that idea was already used by Roland Emmerich in the Godzilla remake)

Put the Aliens in the city!

Aliens can't stand cold conditions? Correct me if I'm wrong, I haven't seen the movies in years, but don't the Aliens come from space? I swear I remember them hanging on the outside of ships or something like that.

Hmm, after having a quick think here's my take...........

Remember in Predator2 they set up a trap to catch the Predator in the cold warehouse ? Being in the cold prevents the humans from being seen by the predators. Hence if they wanted to fight one (or catch one) they'd be better doing it somewhere cold.

    That might explain the location.

My other point is that in some of the AVP novels the Preds leave Alien eggs on random planets then come back later to hunt them. Perhaps they leave some on earth and we get caught up in it.

This would make it possible to have the movie set at present day, or slightly in the future.

Also, if you *really* think about, perhaps the space craft in Alien with the eggs (and of subsequently Aliens) was an abandonded Predator space craft, explaining how the eggs got there in the first place.

I have no idea how much of this is correct. From Aliens Vs Predator Galaxy

    Alien vs Predator Movie Information

    Release Date: August 6th, 2004
    Distributor: 20th Century Fox
    Director/Writer: Paul W.S. Anderson
    Producer: John Davis
Casting Directors: Donna Isaacson and Christian Kaplan
Filming Begins: October 2003 in Prague, Czech Republic.
    Genre: Science Fiction, Action, Horror.

    Storyline

The film is set in the present time at the beginning of the 21st century and a group of scientists and archaeologists travel to Antarctica to view some ancient pyramid ruins. These ruins are deep under the ice surface which were formed much earlier than the pyramid ruins in Egypt. When the group reaches one of the pyramids in Antarctica, they discover human skeletons and the fossilized remains of Facehuggers and Chestbursters. They also find out that these aliens might be still alive somewhere in the pyramid ruins but unknown to them, there's also another species of alien exploring there - the Predators.

    Characters

    Alexia ?Lex? Homer:

Alexia, nicknamed Lex, is an environmental researcher in her late 20s and is very brave and intelligent with a good sense of humour. She has been hired by Weyland Industries to keep everyone on the team in check and to prevent anyone being killed. Previously, Lex was the youngest person to climb Mount Everest with the absence of oxygen tanks. On the expedition, she is second in command to Max Stafford but she soon becomes leader of the remaining survivors of the team.

    Sebastian Wells:

Sebastian is an archaeologist from America who is in his early 30s. As well as being a very pleasant person, he soon gets acquainted with Lex who are immediately attracted to each other.

    Verheiden:

Verheiden is an Egyptologist from Europe and is a very strong person - both mentally and physically. A long time ago, he had a relationship with Lex but now they come face to face on the team. When Verheiden joins the group, he soon notices the spark between Lex and Sebastian and realises he has a rival.

    Charles Weyland:

Charles Weyland is an entrepreneur with a lot of money to throw around and is in his early 40s. Underneath his passionate personality, he is sadly suffering from cancer but before he dies, he wants to accomplish something for civilization. Charles covers the costs of the trip to Antarctica and chooses who will go on the expedition including himself.

    Max Stafford:

Max Stafford is of Afro-Caribbean origins and speaks with a concise English accent. Charles Weyland chose him to be the leader of the group and Max used to be a soldier so he has plenty of experience in this area.

    Quinn:

Quinn is a very strong person who is responsible for the drill team on the expedition. When he first encounters the aliens, he manages to escape from their clutches but on the second encounter, he is not so lucky.

    Miller:

Miller is a scientist, more precisely a chemical engineer, on the team and holds within him masses of knowledge. He has a shy nature and isn't particularly confident around women. Miller plays an important role in the expedition and makes many discoveries along the way.

    Notes

    The Title:

As you will notice, the title of the movie is called Alien vs Predator rather than Aliens vs Predator and this is probably because the producers want to separate the movie from the storyline of the comic books and computer games.

    The Cast:

Unfortunately, the star of the four Alien films, Sigourney Weaver, will not be in the Alien vs Predator Movie and the same goes for the stars of the Predator films. If this film proves to be successful next year, then there will no doubt be a next instalment in the Alien franchise with Sigourney Weaver starring in Alien 5.

    The Director:

Paul W.S. Anderson has directed five films prior to Alien vs Predator which are Shoppi

Sounds like Henriksen's role, although I'm pretty sure he's older than that.

I guess they're going to try and establish some sort of prequel-backstory to the Alien series with this one.

Anyone know if Stan Winston will be involved with the creature effects on AvP?

why do they always have to dumb it down to PG-13 for the stupid mindless high school audience? why can't there be any good R-rated, hardcore science fiction or action movies anymore. why!? *sob*

It's been rumored for years now.
