Am I the only one who thinks that double spacing is a waste of space/paper?

Yeah, it's a great way to make your paper look longer, but for some

reason when I double space my essays and print it out, I usually think

that it is an awful waste of paper and looks cheap (the way it makes the

essay look longer).

Discuss.

 

It's easier for the marker to read and correct/provide feedback.

 

Yes, why do teachers say for instance "4 pages doublespaced" instead of "2 pages single spaced"




Of course it is easier to read I suppose.

I much, much prefer 1.5 spaced.

 

The bigger problem is people NOT Recycle paper, they just dump it with all other food, junks!

And I actually think a page looks a lot nicer when it's double / 1.5 spaced.

 

Yeah, but the thing is that most of the professors/TAs that I had that requires double spacing do NOT give feedback within the paper it self but they just use the last page (not the works cited page, but that little space at the bottom of the last page of the essay) by writing a little paragraph about what was good and what needs improvement.

 

No, it's not a waste of space, because most people are such poor writers that all that space is filled with red by the time the teacher's gone through it.

Translation homework. I hate translation, because I suck at it. So I expect plenty of errors already. And I write big and ugly, so I'll need plenty of space for corrections and the like.


(ugh, "plenty of" used twice ...)

 

Finally! Someone had the guts to say this!

 

Read 400 pages of single spaced text a night like your TA does, and tell me that doublespacing sucks.

 

It's not for your benefit, it's so the teacher can mark up everything wrong that you do.

 

But isn't 1.5 space enough? Plus they have the margins as well.

 

I think Paragraphs are overrated too. We should just type sentences in one long thing.

 

As someone that hates using proper grammar and worrying about spelling things right I totally agree.

 

What I like about double-spacing is that it makes you feel like you're writing so much more than you actually are. And if you get discouraged, you can always think "Well, when it's done, it'll be twice as many pages long!"

 

I like double spacing!! I can get my essay done with faster lol
