Seeing as some enjoyed my "Death of a Hutt," I've decided to try tackling the arena scene from AotC in a similar fashion. I haven't decided how far I'll take it, but things could get interesting if it does indeed go where I think it will. As always, the usual disclaimers apply.

    Dooku

I stepped onto the balcony overlooking the arena, and looked down at the three pillars standing there. I wasn't certain what the Archduke had planned, but he had assured me that it would be worth seeing. Considering that one of the victims was a Jedi, it wouldn't have done for me to miss it. So far, Master Kenobi had caused more than his fair share of trouble.

The arena was packed, with more Geonosans arriving by the minute. I estimated that there had to be at least ten thousand of them present. Master Kenobi was already chained to one of the three posts, the chain secured at the top, well out of reach. A cart pulled out from a tunnel below, carrying the senator from Naboo and her Jedi protector, Kenobi's apprentice, into the arena. A pair of guards secured the two, and then backed off, apparently unwilling to remain much longer.

It seemed as though Poggle couldn't decide which type of monster to offer the spies to. Instead, three were released. The first, a reek, bounded out, clearly ready to consume whatever got in its path. The second was six legged aklay, each leg ended in powerful claws. The final creature was a nexu, ferocious, and feline. Each was prodded by guards carrying electropoles, and I had to wonder what the mortality rate was. The guards quickly left the creatures, probably hoping to find better, and less dangerous, seats from which to view the execution.

Things quickly went awry, Kenobi ducked the aklay's first attack, its powerful leg cutting through the chain that bound him to the pillar, though his hands remained cuffed together. The Padawan, Skywalker, leapt onto the back of the reek, using his chain to control the beast. The senator scaled the post, having freed her hands somehow. The nexu, however, was not going to have any of that. It pursued, her slashing open her back. I could hear a noise of pleasure from Nute Gunray, who had made it quite clear that he wanted Amidala dead. But even as she fell, she swung 'round the post, and clambered back to the top.

The fight on the ground continued, Skywalker still attempting to gain full control of the reek, and Kenobi trying to fight with his hands, which still remained bound. The senator leapt from the top of the post to join Skywalker on the reek's back, even as the larger creature trampled the nexu, still trying to find a way to rid itself of the irritation on its back.

"She can't do that!" Gunray cried.

"Patience, Viceroy," I said, projecting a confidence that, at this point was perhaps beginning to slip a bit. "She will die." Still, I had the feeling that Gunray would, unless given evidence of Amidala's impending death, try something stupid. A group of droidekas, the second most powerful battle droid available on Geonosis, rolled out into the arena to surround the reek, now with Kenobi on its back as well. I was about to point this fact out to the Trade Federation Viceroy when a shaft of purple energy appeared right beside me. I didn't have to turn to know who was holding the lightsaber. "Master Windu."

"This party's over," Windu said, his voice as grim as I'd ever heard it. He moved the blade in an abbreviated salute, and to my slight surprise, lightsaber began to appear around the arena. I saw several members of the Jedi Council, including Master Ki-Adi Mundi and Plo Koon.

"You're impossibly outnumbered," I said, even as one of the advanced, super battle droids made its way down the corridor leading to the box I was seated in. The droid provided just enough distraction for Jango Fett to act, a flamethrower on his wrist igniting Windu's cloak. The Jedi leapt from the box, throwing his cloak aside and joining Kenobi, Skywalker, Amidala, and the other Jedi on the arena's floor, whic

    And here comes Mace's PoV.

    Mace

I was surprised by the lack of security within the system as the assault ship carried me towards the surface of Geonosis.

"We are fortunate," Ki-Adi Mundi said at my side. "Those holding Obi-Wan and the Senator have apparently not noticed our arrival."

"Perhaps," I said, though it didn't seem like Master Dooku to have ignored the possibility of additional Jedi. "Then again, perhaps they feel they need not concern themselves with our presence. But I'll take ignorance on their part, if it keeps war from breaking out." That was my primary responsibility here. If Dooku succeeded in executing Amidala, the Republic would be given little choice. War would be declared on the Seperatist movement. And as I had told the Chancellor, "Jedi are keepers of the peace, not soldiers."

I took my place aboard the first of the speeders headed for the arena where the Geonosians planned to hold the execution. If I could get to Dooku, and make him see how insane this whole idea was, perhaps the bloody conflict I feared could be avoided. In case they were needed, however, the others that came with me would disperse amongst the throng of sentients who expected to see a terrific spectacle.

I made my way up to one of the higher levels after determining that this would allow me to reach Dooku without attracting too much attention. Looking down one of the corrideors, I saw that it terminated in a balcony. Odd, I thought, that the structure of this part of the arena would so closely resemble the interior of the Senate Hall. Granted, it wasn't as tall, and the incline was less steep than that of the Senate, but the fact that this structure mirrored the Senate seemed a bit out of place, given the strong feelings these people had expressed about wishing to leave the Republic. I reached out with the Force, but only barely, casting for Dooku's unique presence. It didn't take long. Whatever had changed within him, at the core his presence was as strong as when I had trained under him.

Silently, I made my way towards Dooku's platform. "Patience, Viceroy," I heard Dooku say. "She will die." Now, I decided, would be the time to step in. I stepped forward, thumbing the ignition switch of my lightsaber. The blade would be enough to contain Jango Fett while I dealt with the former Jedi Master.

"Sorry to disappoint you. This party's over," I said grimly. I slightly raised the lightsaber, the signal to the rest of the Jedi to make their presence known.

"You're impossibly outnumbered," Dooku said, his voice calm. This was not what I had hoped for. I heard heavy footsteps from the corridor, and turned to see a new model of battle droid cluming towards me. Obviously, the Trade Federation hadn't demilitarized as they were supposed to following the Naboo incident. I brought my blade around to fend off the shot from the droids blaster, and in doing so provided Fett with a window of oppotunity. He let loose with a flamethrower, igniting my cloak. I leapt from the box, realizing that the confined space wouldn't do me any good. The Geonosians were fleeing, but droids were marching into the arena.

This is not going to be easy, I thought.

Next PoV: Aayla Secura, which will be coming as soon as it's written. I promise, this one won't take as long as it took me to get Mace's up.

No replies? Guess I'll have to up this myself.

    Aayla

I was surprised to recieve the orders from Master Windu. I had never concieved of the idea of the Republic actually raising an army. Yet when two Jedi are being held as hostages, it only made sense for the Council to attempt to free them.

The newly converted cruisers stood ready for use, and I, along with the majority of Knights remaining in the Temple, boarded, leaving only one Master and a few Knights on Coruscant, should some emergency arise. Master Yoda had already left for Kamino, though I did not know why.

Our shuttle landed on Geonosis without incident, which seemed to surprise Master Windu. I guess he was expecting trouble. We made our way towards the arena, separating and mingling in with the crowd. With the thousands of Geonosians, it would be more difficult to spot a few individuals from other species. From the seat in one of the upper tiers, I looked down on the arenat floor. Three tall poles, probably tall enough to restrain a Wookiee, stood there, and I could barely make out a figure chained to one of them. Probably Master Kenobi, I thought. My idea was confirmed when two more were led out and similarly chained. That would be the Senator and Obi-Wan's apprentice.

Things did not go as the Geonosians had planned, though. Skywalker used the chain that bound him to lasso the reek, while Padme clambered up the post, momentarily out of reach of the nexu. The aklay stubbornly continued its assault on Obi-Wan, though its first attack had broken the chain, leaving him free to move. Once the reek trampled the nexu, which was still focused on the Senator, Obi-Wan joined his Padawan atop the massive creature. The distinctive snap-hiss of a lightsaber echoed through the arena, and I took my eyes off the trio, now surrounded by droidekas, to look to Dooku's balcony.

A slight upward movement of Master Windu's lightsaber told us that it was time to make our presence known. All around the arena, shafts of light suddenly appeared as one Jedi after another ignited their lightsabers. My blue blade sprang into existance, even as Master Windu leapt from the balacony, his outer robe smoking. Then everything went straight to hell.

    ++++++++++++

That's it for now. I haven't yet decided whose PoV is coming next, so I'm open to suggestions.

Next post should be up around the middle of next week.

No word on the next post, but I'll try and have it up by the end of the week. My two Beyond the Saga fics are occupying most of my time.

Okay, I know I'm a little later getting this out than I thought I'd be, but here it is!

    Jango

Boba, at my side, seemed transfixed by the monsters that the Geonosians had unleased upon their captives. Though I had known this was the likely end for them, I took little pleasure in the spectacle. Justice was being served, and that was enough for me at the moment.

Viceroy Nute Gunray shouted something from Dooku's other side, but his exact words were lost in the noise of the crowd. My attention had been upon the two Jedi, and I only now looked down towards the Senator, whom I expected to have become a meal for the nexu. Instead, she was atop the pillar, one wrist already free of its cuff as she struggled to work the other one loose. Boba was watching with fascination as the nexu climbed the Senator's post, and slashed open her back. A cheer went up from the crowd, but Amidala merely swung around the side of the post, and climbed back to the top, leaving the nexu on the ground.

Skywalker had used his chain to fashion reins which he applied to the reek, leading it over towards the post atop which stood Amidala, both hands free of the clain by this point. She leapt to the reek's back to join the Jedi apprentice.

"She can't do that!" Gunray shouted, and I heard Dooku assauge his fear that the Senator might just escape. A group of Geonosian droidekas rolled out, surrounding the two Jedi. (Kenobi had joined his apprentice by now.) Dooku rose, as though to make a speech. But before he could begin, the hum of a lightsaber filled the balcony, and a violet blade shot out between Dooku and myself.

Mace Windu strode onto the blacony, ining "This party's over." Several other blades ignited throughout the stands.

    "You're impossibly outnumbered," Dooku said.

"I don't think so," Windu replied, but I had caught the subtle motion of the Count's hand. A new version of battle droid clomped towards the blacony, drawing Windu's attention. I used the distraction, not wanting to end up in a prolonged fight. My experience with Kenobi on Kamino had proven just how troublesome the Jedi could be. I activated the flamethrower at mt my wrist, igniting Windu's cloak. He tossed it off, leaping from the balcony as hundreds of battle droids marched into the arena. His cloak was smoldering, smoke still swirling around him as he rose on the arena floor.

That's it for now. I'm not sure when the next part will be up, or even whose PoV it'll be.

I'll likely be going for a second round with each character, yoda. So there is a chance you will see that come. Then again, maybe not. [face_devil]

More to come once it's written, probably some time this weekend.

Glad you liked it, Amilight. And here is that next post!

    Ki-Adi Mundi

"Two of our fellows are being held on Geonosis. What has been a confrontation poitical in nature is now threatening the galaxy with war. As Jedi, we must be at the front," Mace Windu said as we headed to the ships, their engines already powering up. "The Seperatists need to be shown that the Republic has a bite."

"This comes close to attack," I said in reply. I knew, though, that Mace was right. The Senate had just given the Chancellor emergency war powers, an act which could widen the confrontation. If it could be stopped by Jedi on Geonosis, then this was the right thing to do. "I do not say that we should not act, but we need to be careful where our actions lead us."

The sunject would be considered on the flight, but ultimately, we decided that Master Windu was indeed right. The time for talking, as he had put it, was over. It was time that Count Dooku and those allied with him saw that the Jedi were ready to come to the defense of the Republic.

"You should not be the one to approach him, Master Windu," I said to him softly as we set foot on Geonosis. "You were his student. Can you remain objective?"

"I have to give him one last chance to surrender," Mace replied. "If I don't, the Dark Side will have been given an easy way into my soul."

"And if you fail to convince him? Can you strike him down?"

"I shall have to. Force help me, I shall have to. Hopefully, though, it will not come to that."

"Let us all hope so, Mace," I said as he split off. "May the Force be with you, Mace Windu." And then, he was gone. The next time I saw him, he was standing on the balcony alongside Dooku, the violet blade of his lightsaber quite visible.

It shifted upward, just slightly, with a bit of hesitation. Then, it came back down to where it had originally been. Mace Windu had failed to reason with Dooku. At the signal, I ignited the green blade of my own lightsaber. As I did so, I heard the snap-hisses of the other blades, and hoped that a show of force might convince the renegade Jedi.

It did not. Battle droids marched into the arena, and Mace leapt from Dooku's balcony. It had begun.

That's all for now. Anakin or Padme will probably get the nod for next weekend.
