Anakin Fabrics

Hey guys.

Next year I am starting my Anakin costume, and am on the hunt for the closest matrial for the tunics etc.

I started a Defined thread at ASAP, but my FTP crashed as is

Any help would be awesome. I know Ferdalump had a close one on one of her pics shown at Maggies site.

The tunic is a bit fuzzy, whatever it is made from has a soft texture that fizzes at parts

Inner is textured and as for colour, well worry about that after. I can't for the life of me guess what his exact colours are.

The cloak looks an awful lot like some sort of waffle weave. The Emperor's cloak is a waffle weave, and they may have patterned it after that.

 

the outter cloak that anakin wears is somekind of "brick wall" raised pattern....

this fabric is not available anywhere on the internet, unless someone trips over some extra unused fabric somewhere....here is the fabric and info i've found, but i've been told that they are all out of this fabric from their 1999 collection....*sigh*

Humm , ya know what that material reminds me of? Appolstry material. I've never seen this type for clothing, so maybe it IS some sort of light to mid weight weight appolstry. (IMHO that stuff is scratchy,itchy city.) Just a guess.

 

The majority of the costume I made out of Raw silk which I bought for an awesome deal and dyed. It started out yellow and I dyed in with rust brown and dark brown Rit dyes. I was pleased with the outcome--but it probably wouldn't have hurt to have been a little darker. The outer tabards I made out of black pleather ( I couldn't find a dark brown fabric I liked) Yaddel got this costume so they can maybe post some pics

I am working on a cloak for this costume--I found a great home dec small waffle weave fabric. I got a great deal on it but had to dye it. It was a sage green and I dyed it with high concentrations of black dye several times and it came out a nice "Musty Dusty Black" which I can't help but be proud of. I will post some pics when I can.

 

Okay, you guys will have to excuse my stupidity, but where have you seen/heard that Anakin's tabards are dark brown They look black to me. I made my tabards black and they look great IMHO. I have only seen a few others that have Anakin costumes and they all, but one, have black tabards. Only one time have I seen someone with dark brown tabards, and he looked ridiculous. So if anyone could so me some "proof" that they are really dark brown, I would greatly appreciate the help.

 

look at most ANY pictures taken up close at the MoM tour..... there is not one ounce of black in Anakin's costume anywhere...the cloak and the leather tabbards look black as the light hits them, but i will assure you that they are dark brown....

Many costumes appear to be a different color on screen than in real life. Some people choose to replicate what appears to them on screen, and some choose to replicate what the colors are actually supposed to be in real life. I don't think it's odd that a lot of people make Anakin's costume using black, since it does look that way in the movie. Even if some people know it's supposed to be dark brown, the vast majority of the public will look at a dark brown costume and say "Hey, it's supposed to be black!" That can get very frustrating, and sometimes it's easier just to make it black to begin with.

 

I had always thought they looked black from the pictures I used to re-create it. After it was made I had a few people tell me it was supposed to be dark brown (which is why I put the disclaimer above ) However, most people knew exactly what the costume was and didn't care whether it was black or brown. Either way I think it looks cool!

Well on screen to me it still looks brown. The lighting is what throws it.

I have many screen grabs showing it brown. Many thought teh outer cloak was black too.

Also Hayden answered a good buddy of mine at Young Jedi Niagara when asked. Said they were very dark brown.

I have a leather jacket thatis a very very dark brown...though it films in some lighting and photographs black.

I clearly saw brown throughout. BEFORE researching it.

So yes Anakin is one big Chocolate bar.

 

I would never trust a JPEG (or even a DVD for that matter) to show a color accurately. The format has lower resolution in hues than in lightness and there are often many "artifacts" that show the incorrect color. If you zoom in, you will see that two pixels together are almost never the same.

I would suggest asking someone who has seen the costume in the "Magic of the Myth" display.
Here are some things I know about the costume: The Visual Dictionary mentions the tabards as being made of synthetic leather (so real leather would be overkill ). There is a thread here about supposed "Fabric Tabards" that go underneath them.
The shirt seen on Anakin in the Morning scene in AOTC is the same model as the undershirt that he wears under the tunic. The model is worn by most Jedi - and can also be seen in many images of cast and stunt performers of both TPM and AOTC. (I write this because many costumers get the shirt wrong)

 

Hold up. In the pic where his costume looks black, what are those other two layers visable underneath his tabbard? Right over his shoulder, you can see the tabbard, then two other layers, then his tunic sleeve. What are those other two things?

i have had a handful of folks who have seen the costume up close at the MoM tour email me... they ALL say the same thing -- there is no black in the costume anywhere....

i've also had some very kind fans send me photos of the costume from the actual display on tour.... see here

Jedi_Knight150, Anakin pretty well has Obi-Wans costume with an ADDED set of leather tabbards, he has cloth ones underneath.

The inner tunic os of course used by many of teh Jedi, though the cut is slightly different that Episode 1.

And just an FYI to go along with Dave, I say pics from MOM and C2, not a bit of black except on the saber, thats it.

Even his soles are brown

 

Now that I've seen the "official" pictures of Anakin's costume, I can clearly see that it's dark brown. I still like the black better. Thanks davenwjedi.
