well I was, but I am comparing to esb. i thought the luke's scream, along with the thumping music in esb, made that a fantastic scene

but with anakin, it wasnt as good. and he lost his forearm, not just his hand! plus, just before dooku slices it off, he seems to just pause for a slight moment, arm outstretched. and then, he barely even screamed!

btw, im sorry if this has been said before

I thought it was cool. Anakin is a trained Jedi, he doesn't scream like a whiny kid when he loses his arm to Dooku.

Luke has had no formal Jedi training, he gives in to his feelings and emotions and hence he reacts the way any of us (non-jedi) would react to having his hand cut off.

Well, I wouldn't call Anakin a typical jedi in control of his emotions.

I prefer Luke's scene but I do like Dooku easily dispatching Anakin.

I thought it was funny how he just stood there and let himself get owned. But overall, nope, I wasn't disappointed.

Anakin didn't scream because he passed out right after it happened. I wouldn't know but I would think that it would hurt more to get your entire arm cut off then it would to get your arm cut off so I think Anakin just passed out from the pain.

It seemed to fit his character. He did something stupid, payed the price for it, but didn't want to show that he was wrong to do what he did by screaming or crying or whatever.

That's how I interpreted it, at least.

"Anakin is a trained Jedi, he doesn't scream like a whiny kid when he loses his arm to Dooku."

Dude, he's still human. He feels pain. And I wouldn't consider him exactly "in control of his emotions/feelings" (he gives in to his feelings rather than do what The Code says to do).

Any human would screem like bloody hell if they got their arm chopped off. Qui-Gon even let out a gasp when he was gored, but couldn't let out a scream because his lungs were punctured, I'd guess.

Eh, I was dissapointed. There was a lot of symbolism that could have been used there, but wasn't. Too bad. :(

The forewarm is just the begining. I don't see where the disapointment is. He did the best he could in a duel and was bested by a more experienced, powerful, and skilled Force user. He will lose more parts. Maybe he'll get his other hand chopped off in the future. By the time he reaches the later stages as a Jedi, or early stages as a Sith, he'll probably had to have more artificial replacements. By the way, the robotic arm/hand he receives after his duel with Count Dooku is is the same one that his son cuts off somewhere down the line, isn't it?

I remember being in the theater expecting Anakin to cry out or something. I was surprised when nothing happened. I understand him passing out because of the pain though.

It's also somewhat interesting how they don't show any immediate reaction by Obi-Wan of Anakin's disarming. Or that Anakin never see's the swordsmanship of Yoda that he thought he had surpassed.

It seems to me that after Count Dooku cut off Anakin's forearm, either Anakin fainted, went into some type of shock, or Dooku knocked him out with the Force when he Force pushed him after the occurence of the injury. I don't recall Anakin yelling in pain.

I was only disappointed becaues a troll posted it in the NSA board and I knew it was coming. :(

I had previously expected that it would be a wound Obi-Wan inflicted in III. It seemed like a nice tie in that Luke loses his hand to Vader/his father, and Anakin loses his hand to his near father. I thought it woulda been a nice parallel. *shrug* Oh well.

Jay Leno spoiled me. He was talking to Hayden and brought out the action figures and made a point of showing how the right arms falls off and why the figure has that feature.

    I haven't watched Leno since.

I saw that Leno too, Just A Slacker. I already knew about Anakin's arm dismemberment, but I was bummed for the countless people who didn't know. From what I understand, those shows have a rehearsal with the actors, and go through the things they're going to talk about. But Hayden looked and sounded fairly surprised there. They may have rehearsed without the toy's arm coming off, and Leno blew it during the taping.

About disappointment, yeah, a little bit. There's no particular move by Dooku there that would constitute Anakin holding his arm out like that.

I thought it was just fine....the pain is what knocked him out (seems to be the concensus)....and then he was thrown back and was absolutely unconscious....as he stood up after the battle was over, you can see him wince in pain and hold his shoulder....it did hurt.

Overall, I thought it was done well, but I am a critic of the effects, and thought it looked a little TOO digital.

I wasn't. I liked the way George did it and just because he didn't scream or anything doesn't mean it was disappointing.

I wasn't disappointed in Anakin losing his arm, but rather the way it occurred. As numerous other people have mentioned, his arm is hanging out there unprotected for way too long. The way Luke lost his hand was almost perfect, but the way Darth Vader in ROTJ and Anakin in AOTC lost their respective limbs looks pathetic. At least the beheading of Jango Fett made up for the missed opportunity for me.

i was not dissapointed that he lost the arm....i love that symbolism with his son. but THE WAY it happened....he hung his arm out and invited it to be slashed off.

I know what you mean, the scene was so underplayed. Lukes dehanding was horrific an shocking but I know alot of people who didnt even notice he lost his arm untiil he had the metal one at the end.

It only one many ways inwhich the final duel is hugely dissappointing.

I wasn't dissapointed. I thought it was pretty cool the way it was done. Although it does make you think: Why the heck did Darth Vader yell when Luke cut his ROBOTIC hand off in ROTJ?????

OF COURSE it was dissapointing. It looks fake and silly, like the rest of the worst lightsaber battle ever devised. Shame on George Lucas for willingly destroying the holy trilogy. GO PETER JACKSON.
