Anakin Skywalker is Michael Jackson

Despite the title, I'm going to try and keep this serious by establishing some solid connections between these two characters. The thought came to me while I watched the recently released footage of Michael Jackson's head on fire during a 1984 Pepsi commercial. It initially reminded me of Anakin burning on Mustafaar. Anyway this crazy analogy must mean that I either think too much about Star Wars or that the non-stop Jackson coverage has just totally saturated my brain. Either way--here I go.

-Skywalker was born into slaverly on Tatooine. To raise money for his master Watto, he was exploited and put into competitions like pod racing. This might be a stretch, but Michael had an abusive father--Joe Jackson. The elder Jackson arguably exploited his children's talents for personal gain.

--Both Skywalker and Michael Jackson were child prodigies of remarkable talent and promise. They were recruited at an early age and thrust into positions of heavy responsibility. Thus, both in some ways lost their childhood which resulted in some deep rooted emotional problems.

--Skywalker became one of the most powerful Jedi in the galaxy, Michael Jackson became one of the most famous entertainers in the world.

--Anakin turned to the dark side where he was physically deformed by fire. He abused the younglings and became infamous. The 1984 Pepsi commericial where pyrotechnics caught Michael's hair on fire was the beginning of the end for him. This was the point where Michael became addicted to pain killers. From this point forward, his behavior became stranger. There were of course his own problems with younglings and allegations of abuse.

--The mother of Jackson's first two children wanted nothing to do with them. She wanted to be paid off and released of any responsibility. This is a stretch but in her own way, Padme abandoned their two children.

--Both Skywalker and Jackson died tragic deaths in their 50s. Michael was staging a big comeback tour while Anakin came back to the good side (albiet for a very short time.)

--On a ligher note, Anakin started off white but became a black Darth Vader. Jackson began black but became white.

Anyway I figured these were fun connections and a point of conversation/reflection.

Anakin did not "abuse" the younglings and he did not become "infamous" for this non-action. Your improper use of this term for a fictional character to imply something sinister about a real person who was manipulated and extorted and had his career and life badly damaged by false allegations is utterly pathetic. Your other examples are, in some way, shape or form, equally ridiculous.

If so, I understand where you're coming from, given that I share your disdain for "lighter", "fluffier", fallacy-ridden threads; threads that have really have nothing to do with the Star Wars saga. It also seems that we have our answer (i.e. Halibut, current SAGA FORUM moderator, has both "contributed" to this thread and left it open -- says it all).

Ha. On a side note, I find Blanket to be hilarious.

I'm thinking the Obi-Wan role would have to be fullfilled by Sir. Paul McCartney. McCartney being the older and wiser but ultimately betrayed by the younger and more ambitious colleague. It might be a stretch (Paul and Michael were hardly "like brothers") but I think it works.

 

How did MJ betray Paul??
Is it something to do with the Beatles publishing rights that Michael owns??

This is the funniest thing i've read all week --i still have to admit that it doesn't belong in the saga forum but still...very funny.

 

I've been posting in Saga since I signed up on these boards and have been pretty active. I'm a big supporter of the mission statement and the history of this place. With that said this thread does border on humor but we could treat it in a serious way. There are a lot of coincidental connections between Anakin and MJ.

 

MJ was 50 and Anakin was around 45/46 when they died, that's pretty close.

I have to agree with you.

 

The only difference between Anakin & Jackson is that I only feel sorry for Jackson.

 

Anakin had a pet droid, R2, and MJ had a pet chimp, Bubbles. I figured since we're stretching,,,

 

Anakin also had a pet Togruta, Scrappy.

 

Wow, very nice parallels, bravo.

 

Another parallel : Jackson had a child-like voice, and Anakin often sounded like a spoiled brat so ... um ... yeah.

 

I heard Michael Jackson will not be buried but recycled into shopping bags so he can remain white, plastic and dangerous for kids to play with.

 

Anakin has the 501st, MJ has a legion of dedicated, creepy fans.
