This started because of someone posting Clone Wars deleted scenes in the main TCW thread in which Palpatine convinces and manipulated things such that at no point does Anakin ever come up against Maul. Hell, I'm convinced that the Battle of Coruscant was set up just so Anakin stays the hell away from Maul. Possibly for the reason that Maul would definitely drop the bomb that Palpy=Sidious.

That being said. A lot of people, including in the Jedi Council Forums themselves in the past have said that it was a big mistake to kill Maul in Episode I and that he would have been much better served staying alive long enough to be killed by Anakin. Alas that was not to be, but the opportunity to have two apprentices of Palpatine (who wasn't called Dooku) fight each other finally came...then it turns out that it was never the plan at all to have them fight as far as I'm aware. Pablo has confirmed that Maul was to make it out of The Clone Wars alive even before the Disney buyout, which is a shame as having the former Dark Lord be killed by Anakin before he runs off to Coruscant to save the Chancellor would have shone Revenge of the Sith in a new light as so many other parts of The Clone Wars have.

Then Rebels came along, and the LSG/Rebels staff thought up the idea that Maul should come back only to be killed by Vader. This was a bad idea, the coming only to die I mean, but the rest of the idea of the original concept of Twilight of the Apprentice was great, Vader appearing to chase the Rebels crew only to turn out that actually he was after Maul the whole time. Cut out the part where Maul dies and you get a great twist. But hey, Maul is still back and fighting and dying at the hands of the Dark Lord of the Sith after a buildup is a much better way to go about things. Can't wait unti-

Oh he's fighting Obi-Wan for the 20th time. I thought The Lawless was about him finally getting his revenge, unless there's something else to it. And they said they weren't gonna do Vader v Maul because they were scared it was too much fanservice. I dunno man. I get the feeling the ball really dropped on this one, unless something else happens.

If Season 3 ends with Maul gone for good without crossing swords with Vader, that will be a mistake.

I don't think it was really a missed opportunity especially with Vader, but thats just me.
