I've always noticed this, and I can't help but wonder if anyone else has, since I've never seen it mentioned. In Revenge of the Sith, when Vader is strangling Obi-Wan on the table during their duel, there's a close up on Vader's face and he seems to mouth "F--k you". Why would Lucas let this stay? And why didn't the MPAA make any note of it? Is it really not that easy to notice?

I'm watching ROTS on Spike TV right now, and I noticed it too.

    Damn, that's kind of cool.

Hmmm... he is moving his mouth. Was he instructed to use that phrase? Did he say that out loud, and if so was it improvised? Maybe he was supposed to be visibly angry, and he subconsciously moved his mouth to match that phrase.

Anyway, interesting find, and not out of place. I'm not sure if the MPAA has a rule about visible but inaudible curse words in close-up scenes. If it did, it would explain some of that movie's PG-13 rating.

Not out of place in a Star Wars film? "See you in hell" is one thing, but there's something about this particular phrase that seems as if it just would not (and doesn't) fit in Star Wars (to me).

Not out of place in the scene. It's what angry people say. I don't think many people notice it, and if it isn't heard, kids aren't going to imitate it or likely even recognize it. Nobody's complaining, so I don't think its really an issue.

Fair enough. Still, I figured it was worth mentioning for the sake of discussion. :)

I'll have to check it (never noticed it before, & I've watched ROTS about 7 times), but it sounds like yet another urban myth - I've spoken to people who are 100% convinced that R2-D2 says the same thing to Threepio in ANH.

And there's still the debate over whether Luke yells "Carrie!" or "Hey!" to Princess Leia in the hangar on Yavin 4...

Not an urban myth if it's clearly seen with one's own eyes. Skip to 1:14 of this:

To me it didn't look like he mouthed that magic four letter word. It seemed like he was grinding is teeth in a struggle and when he got the advantage he just released his tension and inhaled.

Definitely not. He's gritting his teeth, holding his breath, then he exhales somewhat, causing his lips to move, but I don't think he's mouthing or saying anything at all, let alone "@#$% you".

It'd be cool to think that Hayden was so into the scene that he did it without thinking (like Jack Nicholson losing control & smashing the entire bathroom door in The Shining), but it's not there.

It depends on how one looks at it

If Anakin's showing rage and he wants to add in a little insult to Obi-Wan, he's saying "**** you!"

If all he did was exhale sharply, he did not swear.

The F word does not exist in the Star Wars universe.

Vader's Adams Apple moves as if hes gulping and I'm sure it shouldn't when you say the F word. Although, my guess is as good as anyones.

    No, just frak and frotz.

Wait, Anakin tells Obi-Wan that? Must...resist...urge...to make...slash joke.

It kinda feels too much like earth if they say English earth cuss words. Hell itself kinda bugs me, being a religious concept they don't have in the GFFA (or at least never mentioned, there may be some species that believes in a similar construct).

That being said, watching it, it looks like he's saying something, but i see no 'uck'. It looks like 'Fyouu'. Which isn't anything. To us at least.

I've never noticed. Thanks for giving me 3,751st reason to watch ROTS over the New Year. [face_laugh]

What ever happened to "Kriff you" and "Kark off"?
Isn't at least ONE of those the SW equivalent of the ehf bomb?

Cade Skywalker uses them all the time.
And dirtballs always say the REEEEEEALLY bad words.
No matter WHAT galaxy they live in.

Obi-Wan burps. Knowing full well he is not able to speak because of his lack of oxygen, Anakin says "excuse you".

This reminds me of the ST:TNG days, and the preview for the "Farm Trek" episode after BoBW where it looked as if Picard was yelling "**** you!!!" at his brother.

    Good times.
