During the race (on the DVD) Anakin's podracer avoids a wreck...and one of the Steelton control cables (I'm getting this from the TPM cross-section book) came loose. The loose engine is still running (held only by the energy binder...and that would have failed soon after. The rest...you know what happens.

Later on, when the fire in Anakin's left engine was put out...he did some quick transfer of something (my guess was fuel) from the right engine to the left. (note the blue level in the right engine was higher then the left)

Now, according to Star Wars Episode I Incredible Cross-Sections (I mean David West Reynolds got to consult with the actual people who worked on the film) each podrace engine has it's own independent fuel tank...with neither engine touching.

So what was the blue line on Anakin's display representing? Talk amongst yourselves...discuss!

I always thought that Anakin shut down one of the engines, to compensate for the other.

That's not really "power" you see being transferred to both engines, but the amount of the electrical force field needed to keep the engines from breaking apart during the race?

I assumed it was a power transfer from one engine to the other. The cross section explaination doesn't make sense really, so I just follow what I see on film.

But wouldn't the energy binders be enough to keep the 2 seperate engines from breaking apart. Always looked at Podracing as strapping a pair of ACME rockets to a sled...and whoever can navigate them best wins!

What bother s me about this, is after meeting David West Reynolds (author of the cross-section books) and listening to the amount of research done on the technical aspects of the designs...that the "blue line" thing would throw such a wrench in the idea!
