    Hey everyone...

I'm sure this has been discussed before, but a search didn't yield any results so here goes....

In ROTS Anakin has a neat little scar running down his right eye. In ROTJ, when Luke removes his helmet there is no trace of it.

I don't consider this to be a plot hole at all, I'm just curious for anyone's thoughts about what might have happened. Also, do you think Lucas will digitally add it in upcoming DVD releases?

schmintan, I don't think you understood the question.
Anakin has the scar in ROTS, but not in ROTJ. Jade is asking why.

My answer is that so much flesh must have been lost and reshaped in the accident, that such a small scar would no longer show. Assuming you've seen the film, you know just how bad and serious it gets. I doubt such a small scar could still dominate his facial features after such an accident.

For God's sake it's 23 years later, not even his burns look near as bad as they did 23 years prior.

Besides that exact spot where the scar would be is in a shadow in ROTJ.

Well consider the obvious. Anakin had his whole face burned up by liquid hot magma. Given that, plus the fact that it's 23 years later and you think a tiny little scar over his right eye is going to still be there?

Also, in RotS Anakin had burn scars up and down his face. However in RotJ his skin looks healed to a significant extent. So that means his skin healed from massive burnt scar tissue ... but you don't ask where that went. You want to know where the little, insignificant, scar went. :p

Yeah, I've got a scar that resulted from a gaping leg wound 15 years ago. For a long time it was really dark and huge. It is still there now if you look closely, but it really does not look anywhere near the same. That's just me, a normal person. I'm not even a Dark Lord of the sith that has been set on fire.

Definitively not... The scar shouldn't appear on Anakin's face after Luke removes his helmet on ROTJ. Anakin got his face completely burn after his duel with Obi Wan in ROTS.

This topic comes up every few months on one forum or another. I always give the same response: perhaps the kiss she never should have given him, did indeed turn into a scar.

I'd say that they just wanted Hayden to look more mature and show that he had really hard time during the war. They didn't care about Vader's look in ROTJ.
But I won't. That would be cruel :p

Ya well guys i must say it's just common sense. I mean come on. At first i thought u were asking how he got the scar (which, by the way happened with his battle against asajj ventress* on Yavin 4*) but now i realize it really is kind of an easy question. I mean I don't expect that a scar would be on ur face if nearly all of ur flesh was burned away by molten lava.:p

I think a more important question is...

Why does Darth Vader have fingerprints on his helmet throughout the OT? He has no fingers!

If you watch the scene were Anakin is burned there at the edge of the lava river most of his face on that side is badly burned thus I would think that the scarring and the rebuilding of the tisseu would hide such a scar

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be a thematic motif relating to "scarring" in ROTS? It's almost as if there was a visual link between the literal scarring that Anakin endures (the scar on his face, the loss of his limbs, and being burnt alive on Mustafar) and the psychological "scarring" he goes through at the same time.

I am referring not only to Anakin's scar, but also to the warping of Palpatine's face. Of course, what makes Palpatine's case different is that he seems to revel in the distortion of his visage. On a literal level, Palpatine has been "scarred and deformed," but on a metaphoric level, it's an "unmasking." It's as if the outside has been made to reflect his inside. You might say that Palpatine is himself one big "scar" on the face of the Force!

Anakin, however, is ultimately not like Palpatine. By the Saga's end, he has transcended and proven himself to be far more than just the sum of his "scars" (physical and psychological).

I couldn't believe on the DVD cover of Revenge of the Sith, they did not show Anakin with the eye scar. That scar is even a symbol too.
