There's no denying that the "Anakin, Anakin!" is Qui-Gon's voice but now that most have the DVD isn't it clear that the "Nooooo!" is Anakin's? It sounds like Anakin as well, much much more than Qui-Gon. If it was Qui-Gon's or at least meant to be I would have hoped they'd fix it up. The Subtitles infer that it is Qui-Gon's voice. The Spanish version however, has a Spanish actor (prob. from E1 Spanish version) saying Anakin, Anakin, but the Nooooo! remains.

    Is that Qui-Gon?

    Question:
Do I hear the voice of Qui-Gon Jinn shouting, "Anakin, Anakin... No!", in Yoda's apartment after Anakin attacks the Tusken Raiders?

    Answer:
Yes indeed, the voice that Yoda hears is that of Qui-Gon Jinn.

    Anakin's.

Qui Gon was trying to get his attention and Anakin had a fit of rage and yelled because of what happened.

Ok, so I was wrong :p

Yes, that is Qui-Gon shouting "Anakin...Anakin!"

    The scream is Anakin's

...and the silent breath is none other than Vaders! :)

The "anakin, anakin" is Qui Gon's voice.

The "NOOOOOOOOO" is of anakin. it's a clue to what will happen in EP-3.

Not only has the official site stated that it is Qui-Gon, but try watching the DVD with the sub-titles turned on. It clearly says,

"[Qui-Gon Jinn's voice] Anakin, Anakin, Noooooo!!!!"

P.S. I'm not trying to debate the issue of hearing Vaders breathing, just the part of who says the "Noooo"...Yes, I know there was a reference to the sub-titles in the original post, but I'm just trying to bring the obvious to the forefront...You have answered your own question...It's Qui-Gon.

The "Anakin! Anakin!" is definately Qui-Gon, but I don't think the "Noooooo!" is either Qui-Gon or Anakin, I think the closest to it is Yoda.

the "NOOOOOOOOOOO" is clearly anakin's IMO...it really sounds like a distorted version of Hayden's voice, I really think that Yoda is hearing anakin IN THE FUTURE, a premonision of some sort, for when Anakin falls into lava or whatever.

I could be wrong, but really it sounds just like him. And there is a huge gap in between the "Anakin, Anakin" and the "NOOOOOOOOOO", which leads me to believe they are different people. True, they said you do hear Qui Gon's voice, but they never said anything else. It's not definitive proof or anything.

And you're basing this argument against subtitles that Lucasfilm programs into their own DVD release? You are reading too much into things...Qui-Gon's voice is probably distorted because of the anguish of what he's seeing Anakin doing...It's a Jedi who Qui-Gon believed to be the chosen one slaughtering children!!! If you saw one of the most horrible things you could imagine and you screamed Nooooo, it wouldn't sound exactly like your normal voice either...

I disagree. We've got two seperate sources saying it's Qui-Gon and you still want to argue that it's not. No matter what side of the Canon debate you fall on these should be enough, But now I suppose that sub-titles aren't considered canon right? You say it sounds like Anakin, I say it sounds like someone in anguish. Edit: And that someone is Qui-Gon.

Well heck, in that case Lucas himself didn't do the animation, so all the cgi characters we saw on screen aren't canon either...good news for the people who didn't like the Yoda fight!!! ;)

I think it sounds more like Yoda than Anakin...

You say it's "clearly" a distorted version of Anakin's voice, thus contradicting yourself.;)

    I don't think it's that obvious.

See the thing is, I have sources that back up my statement that it is Qui-Gon and you don't have anything other than your own belief that it's not Qui-Gon...I'm trying to debate the issue in a logical and "researchable" manner to back up my side of the argument...Yet you always fall back on your own personal interpretation...Just for arguments sake here's another theory why Qui-Gon's voice could be sounding different, this is the first time that a deceased Jedi has made contact with the living (I believe that this point is also backed up on the Audio Commentary), so I think we can agree that their spirit goes somewhere else when they die...The anguish over the situation could be what enables Qui-Gon to "break-through" into the "realm of the living" for a lack of a better term...It's possible that he was only able to do this for a short period of time and was essentially dragged back into whatever realm his spirit was in...Mix this in with how upset he obviously was and the sounds of the Sandpeople screaming (which can also be heard in the background) and this could cause his voice to not sound normal.

It's not like Qui-Gon was with Anakin, and the Tuskens. Yet the tuskens seem to be heard with the Noooo!

Most people who believe the voice is of Anakin's really don't care what the subtitles claim, or whether or not Burtt inconclusively mentions the voice is of Qui-Gon's. There is absolutely NO doubt whether or not the Anakin, Anakin belongs to Qui-Gon. However, the Noooo is so distorted and well, doesn't sound a thing like Liam Neeson. If it was indeed meant to be Qui-Gon's voice saying the Noooo, they did a terrible job, and left it open for discussion. Ben Burtt knows his stuff, and probably would have felt disapointed enough in the quality to leave it out (he is the editor, as well). Plus, Lucas could easily have called up Neeson and paid him to act it, even over the phone. Money is clearly not the issue. Hell, I'm sure they could have found a sample of him saying No from another of his movies, and manipulated it into anguish seamlessly.

To conclude the Noooo likely belongs to Anakin, and while whose voice it is is still subject to interpretation (Yoda, if you will), I think it's safe to say that the voice belonging to Qui Gon is not.

Just to weigh in here, the voice is definitely Qui-Gon screaming for anakin right before he falls into the lava pit. The No..... is that of Anakin as he falls, sort of like the echoing of your voice in a canyon or some other crap like that. The dream is a revelation of what will happen in the last 5 minutes of Episode 3.

Yes, I agree with the Godfada.

It's Qui-Gon. The "NOOOO!" sounds different because they couldn't get Liam Neeson to record anything.

You really think they couldn't get someone to say "Noooo!" that sounded a LITTLE more like Qui-Gon? I mean c'mon, honestly!

I've always thought it was Anakin, but distorted. It sounds a lot more like Anakin than it does Qui-Gon.

Edit: By the way, to TheGodfada: OMG!!1! STOP YELLING!!1! kthxbye!

Petmytauntuan. You know Steve Sansweet from Lucasfilm. Well he was down here in San Diego this past summer again for the San Diego Comic-con. He hosted the Lucasfilm panel. He answered ques from the audience and the ques came up. He said that it is Qui-gon saying "Anakin" But the "Nooo" is someone else, didnt mention a name who, but we'll find out in Ep3. So to make it short and simple for you to understand, Qui-Gon says only the "Anakin, Anakin !" line. YOur welcome.
