Was funny though when Syril’s mum kept chanting Deeryl throughout the ISB.

 

Another Rakatan refference when talking about a sculpture that has history Chandrillan 25 000 years ago. I am 99% sure Dawn of the Jedi will use them

Incidentally, his probable death-by-chauffeur reminds me of the similar death in Goldfinger of a gangster who refuses to go along with the titular villain's scheme to rob Fort Knox. Oddly enough, the gangster in question is named "Mr. Solo."

 

The scene of Deeryl and mum was both hilarious and excruciating - how good.

 

Dedra is a lion tamer. That was scorching.

 

Syril hiding from his girlfriend and mother in the bedroom was the best. Maybe the funniest Star Wars scene ever.

And then things got dark, and totally heartbreaking.

 

Syril's mom scenes made me wanna die. I am rooting for Syril and Dedra now, sorry.

Everything else was pretty meh. Much weaker first arc than the first one in Season 1, and much, much weaker than anything else in S1, really. Having rewatched S1 just yesterday, the writing, tone and editing feel off in comparison. Did not care about a bunch of idiotic rebels on Yavin subplot, which seems to have existed only to show us "Look, it's Yavin!" The whole thing felt like filler, if I am being honest. And I find it hard to believe that an advanced prototype TIE-fighter, that seems to be more powerful and advanced than anything we have ever seen on screen, doesn't have some sort of tracking system. The Empire should've been on Cassian's ass moments after he stole it, and he did not exactly go out quietly. Details like this would have been addressed in Season 1, here they are just glossed over. The wheat planet subplot was way, waaaaaaaaaaaay too on the nose. Zero subtlety in that one, they hit you like a brick in the face with it. Brasso's death being basically off-screen was a weird choice, with that one stormtrooper slowly raising his weapon, and apparently managing to hit a moving speeder super far away, when a bunch of them couldn't hit him when he was running on foot in front of them? Okay. Mon Mothma's scenes dragged, were really boring, with the only real purpose to them being Tay Kolma's disposal. But the scene of her dancing looked gorgeous, indeed. Krennic scene in the first episode was by far the best part of the three episodes.

The fact that the original composer didn't return has also been very noticeable. Other than the reused tracks from Season 1, nothing has been memorable so far. Also, do they really have only one dancing track? Why is Niamos so prominent, anyway? Why would Chandrillan royalty dance and chant it? It was just some random planet in S1.

6/10 overall for the first arc.

 

Well worth the wait.
