Am I the only one annoyed by these? Artists can't seem to write songs anymore without plugging in an anit-war message or an anti-Bush message.

I like politics in songs but lately, every rock song has had these messages and it gets tiresome hearing the same thing over and over and over and over.

Well, to quote God; "That lot are just a bunch of knobhead students".

I agree with you (although I generally agree with the message in anti-war songs).

Eh? I also would like to know where these "Anti-War rock songs" are coming from. I have heard ONE single solitary anti-war song since the attack on Iraq, and that wasn't even commercially released.

Of course, there are plenty of classic anti-war rock songs out there. Brothers In Arms, Happy Christmas, etc.

So I guess you donot like 1/2 of the classic rock songs from the late 60's and early 70's as they were against our involvement in Vietnam?

I'm not saying they are ALL about Anti-War. I am just hearing a lot of songs lately that have small messages about anti-war and such.

Yes, ok, but we'd like examples, because some of us haven't heard anything other than "let's get jiggy at our high school party, dirrty gurl" and other such poorly spelled nuggets.

Well if you had a very strong opinion on something, and could access a medium such as music to spread it, wouldn't you? These people simply use their popularity to get people to think.

I've never heard any anti-war songs on the radio but I do own a copy of "Rock Against Bush" which has a bunch of bands on it like NOFX and Sum 41.

There's a bunch of punk bands that are trying to get younger people to vote.

"Punk bands, musicians, and record labels have built a coalition to educate, register and mobilize progressive voters.
Something needs to be done to unite the youth vote and bring real activism back into our society. Punk rock has always been on the edge and in the forefront of politics. It is time to energize the majority of today?s disenfranchised youth movement and punk rockers to make change a reality."

god, I would take an anti-war, or anti-bush song anyday over the same regurgitated mush that's on the radio constantly. Atleast those songs would be about something, whether I agreed with them or not.

I recently went through the UK top ten singles chart, checking out what kind of songs are out there, and seeing if it was just my imagination that they were all the damn same. Well for a start 1 single artist in the whole chart was white. I think a little more than 10% of the UK population is caucasian, but that's not really important, as long as the music being produced by our citizens is good. However, when every single one of these 9 other songs is about growing up in the hood and getting jiggy in Harlem, I have a problem.

ENOUGH HIP-HOP! I don't care what colour you are, I don't care what country you come from, but if all these British artists you're going to be on EVERY DAMN MUSIC STATION please collaborate a bit and a) learn some geography, because you're living in Yorkshire and b) let each other know what you're up to so we don't get 50 singles that are exactly the same released every month.

Ugh. Of course the 'white artist' was 3 Irish lassies and Jim, singing about summer sunshine. I can't believe the best thing on the chart was the most ridiculously cheerful pop song you could think of, by an Irish band.

Two of my favourite albums are anti-war:

The Final Cut (performed by Pink Floyd), and Amused to Death, by Roger Waters.

Mind you, I don't know of any crap around nowadays which has the messages of which you speak. There are of course those "punk" bands around who vaguely talk about anarchy or rebellion. However that could be talking about staying up bast bedtime or not supporting the war.

My National Anthem is a song about having a war.

If you mean Flower of Scotland, it's about how much we love that flower for saving us from the English invaders by spiking their feet.

If you mean God Save the Queen, it's a song about crushing the savage Scots underfoot.

    Interesting irony, I think. :p

There are far more pro-war redneck country songs playing on the radio these days than there are anti-war songs of any genre. I haven't heard one anti-war song playing on the radio that wasn't from the 60s or 70s.

This speaks for itself, I think, and is the only one recently I can think of, but have never heard it on the radio.

    The Final Straw - REM

As I raise my head to broadcast my objection
As your latest triumph draws the final straw
Who died and lifted you up to perfection?
And what silenced me is written into law.

I can't believe where circumstance has thrown me
And I turn my head away
If I look I'm not sure that I could face you.
Not again. Not today. Not today.

If hatred makes a play on me tomorrow
And forgiveness takes a back seat to revenge
There's a hurt down deep that has not been corrected
There's a voice in me that says you will not win.

And if I ignore the voice inside,
Raise a half glass to my home.
But it's there that I am most afraid,
    And forgetting doesn't hold.

It doesn't hold. Now I don't believe and I never did
That two wrongs make a right.
If the world were filled with the likes of you
Then I'm putting up a fight. Putting up a fight.
Putting up a fight. Make it right. Make it right.

Now love cannot be called into question.
Forgiveness is the only hope I hold.
And love-- love will be my strongest weapon.
I do believe that I am not alone.

For this fear will not destroy me.
And the tears that have been shed
It's knowing now where I am weakest
And the voice in my head. In my head.

Then I raise my voice up higher
And I look you in the eye
And I offer love with one condition.
    With conviction, tell me why.
    Tell me why.
    Tell me why.
    Look me in the eye.
    Tell me why.
