I'm thinking about getting an iBook G4 (student discounts + interest free finance, yezzir!).

I was wondering, is the Airport Extreme technology compatible with my home network (i.e. my Wireless Broadband internet/Router), I assume it is, but I want to be sure.

Also on a seperate/related note, they're just about to announce the iPod video. *wishes he was rich*

EDIT: Eh, just remember the other question I wanted to ask. What is the battery like, I remember the old fashioned Laptop batterys used to die if you didnt stop charging them when it was full. I know the Sony Vaio has that special type that stops charging when full, assuming that Apple use this too?

It should be. My powerbook (with Airport Extreme) that I'm using right now works with all the wireless networks I've found.

Ipod VIDEO? Damnit, and I just bought a Photo like a week ago...

Dont know about the iBook, but my power book can get 2-2 1/2 hours depending on what I'm doing. Never had a problem with leaving it plugged in.

    thanks for the info...

How old is your Power Book? On the website it says that it (the iBook) goes over 6 hours without charge ("upto" being the keyword though)

Yes, it should be compatible with your network (providing that the router is new enough). My brother's ibook uses our netgear router without a problem (and gets twice my speed).

I thought Jobs was completely against the idea of an iPod video. I thought Dvorak would be proved right when he said Jobs wouldn't release something like that until sales really slumped.

    And like that...he's gone.

This is the one I have (or near enough the same thing)
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00008DOYO/qid=1128522363/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl/026-2351812-8730059
Only had it a few months. And if it doesnt work, its cheap enough to get one that does (although my parents could fund that)

you really think they want to give the Portable Video market to another company...?

About 2 1/2 years. I think I books have better battery life though- the powerbook has a LOT of processing power and probably requires more energy.

Just be sure you don't buy a base station or anything like that. The laptop by itself should be fine.

Yeah my Media Studies teacher used to have one, amazing machines they are. The screen is nearly as thin as a piece of paper.

No, affording this will be hard enough. The only thing I might need to buy is Office for Mac, which is £99 with the Student Discount. I'm wandering if I can pirate/download this online... *Knight is a Mod*
although maybe thats not a suitable question for the JC :p

Does anyone else you know have an ibook/mac with Office on it? If so, you could always "borrow" it.

I've seen a Desktop G5 with Airport extreme working with a Belkin router, so I'd guess that's a yes; it uses 802.11g AFAIK.

A book made of apples is an absurd prospect. And fitting an entire Airport (and an extreme one at that) inside a waterproof coat? Where do you even begin with that? Ludicrous.
