April 2nd Wal-Mart "48 Hours Of The Force" idea...

Ok, bear with me guys (and ladies)... Lots of caffiene and I'm brainstorming !!

anyhoo - I was thinking that if we have our group rep talk to the store manager, maybe they'll let us "hang out" in our costumes and whatever... Not all day, but just for a bit, you know.

Interesting idea, but I wonder why Wally World is doing this so far in advance of the movie? Can anyone say... peg warmers?

Thats an excellent idea, I guess great minds think alike! I spoke with the manager of the Killeen Wal-Mart about doing an appearance on the 2nd. He said that they allready have people coming out for photos. He's going to find exactly which characters they have coming and give me a call back. The manager of the Wal-Mart here said that they have nothing planned for the launch and would be thrilled to have us. So, if any one is interested in doing an appearance at this store let me know. I'm supposed to get in contact with her tomarrow afternoon.( sigh...I know it's just gatesville,But debbie's right it would get our faces out.)I'll keep you posted on the Killeen launch aswell.

I think that THIS, coupled with other rumors I have been hearing, that there might be ANOTHER club running around. Sunshine told me of another group that promised to be int he Killeen Mal awhile back and stood up a few stores... That could quickly give us a bad rep.

I've heard a few rumors about that as well, but never gave it much thought...

The only other groups I'm aware of in the immediate area are The Jedi-Temple group in Temple and the Temple Sci-Fi/Fantasy Meetup Group, and I'd seriously doubt that these negative rumors would have involved either of those groups...

Hmm, how about the COPPERAS COVE Wally World? Have they "hired" anyone for photo shoots? Heck, they probably wouldn't look as good (or REAL) as our outfits anyways... Especially if Patrick and myself (and anyone else with a suit) go as stormtroopers and Todd dons his Vader outfit... how cool would THAT be?

Gatesville wouldn't be so bad, but that's a heck of a drive and I'll most likely be in need of someone to watch my younglings...

At least we got a week to figure something out...

BE ADVICED......I am going to San Antonio this weekend to work on my sandtrooper armor with my friend john...I don't know that it would be finished by the 2nd...darn I have to work that day also . Update on my boba fett project is, that it's on hold for now til I get some fundages. so for now i have to work with I got. I am trying to hook us up for a fanforce film cooperation between DFW, San Antonio, Austin and us. Will keep posted...they need troopers and jedi for the movie.

Well, we just need to tell folks that we contact that WE, Killeen Star Academy are the ONLY "Offical and sanctioned" Fan group in the area and that any one else is NOT. Mentioning Lucas and his thing about copyright laws might not be a bad idea. If they have hired actors to dress up. Just a thought....

 

We could also try the Belton Wal Mart (not the old rinky-dink one off of Main St. but the NEW one just up the road - across from Dossman's Funeral Home.)I went there Sat. Night and WOW !! is that place spacious !! They might be interested in letting us do our thing there if Coppera's Cove doesn't...

From what I could figure out at Rebelscum all Wal-Marts will have the 48 hours of the Force but only selected ones will have the tent outside, etc. I think Temple and Killeen are the only ones in this area. BTW the Killeen TRU will not be participating in the midnite madness...the nearest one will be in Austin. Target is supposed to have something going on early Sat morning involving an exclusive figure but each store is only getting 40 of them. You have to be at the store early to get a ticket to get one. Not sure of the times.

Haven't heard anything about any other clubs. Temple has the Jedi-Temple Star Wars meetup group and the TX-01 Star Trek meetup group. Woody and I are members of both of them. Check out http://starwars.meetup.com/93/events/4465675/ . The two groups are combined and we meet every fourth Tues at Starbucks.

Target will be giving out vouchers (one per person, though you know the scalpers and their "connections" in the store - they'll probably get 5 or more each...)
The vouchers will be for the Target Exclusive Lava Vader figure and will be redeemable inside the store in the toy aisles where a Target team member will be collecting the vouchers and distributing the figures. The vouchers start being given out at 6:30 in the morning... Anyone else besides myself gonna be at Target on Sat. AM around 5:30 ?? LOL

The "Vader's Voice" figure is the C-3 exclusive this time around... (Totally different package design than the ROTS line of figures, and with a soundchip built in that plays James Earl Jone's voice...)

I'd cut off valuable body parts for one (and not necessarily my own! *L*), if anyone happens to be going to C-3 - PLEASE try to pick one up for me !!

Ok, I contacted the Copperas Cove Wal-mart and they aren't interested in having anyone show. But I just got a call from the manager of K-bees toys and they were wondering if we could show on such short notice.

WOW, what a great weekend. I'm still in awe! The participation by our members was awesome. Here is a little rundown of what happened over the course of these last two days. I think Sunshine should be writing this, but I am psyched and need to vent on the computer.

Day One
Our great Activities Director, (Yeah I know she's my wife and I think she's great) made a deal with the Manager of Walmart in Killeen to make an appearance. Todd as Darth Vader, my self as TK-5275, Joe as TK-1731, Scott as TK-181, Woody as himself, and Jim as himself showed up to help promote our Fan Chapter. Three hours flew by. The crowd was a great turn out. Sunshine made an announcement on 106.3 FM to promote our Chapter. It seems that our names are now going to be getting out.

Day Two
Calling upon Joe for his help once again, he agreed to show up at 3:00 PM. Patrick was called as well and he agreed to show up as Master Pattwa Fett. His Jedi garb was great. Myself and Sunshine showed up to support the two. We were pleasantly surprised to see Woody and Jim make an appearance as well. I brought my Anikan FX Lightsaber and Woody brought his Darth Vader FX Lightsaber. The crowd was holding the two sabers and was very pleased. We were told about 400 pictures were taken in the course of the two days. Not bad with a total appearance time of 5 1/2 hours. Once again the crowd was great. Children got into the roll of being Jedi. Many people inquired about our chapter. A lot of woman wanted to know who the men behind the mask were. It seemed we could have had some groupies. (imagine Star Wars groupies) HA HA. Sorry Sunshine, couldn't resist. Both days the Walmart staff was excellent. I believe they deserve a logo pin and a shirt for helping us promote the Chapter. Not only did they help promote the chapter, but we received some awesome stuff.
