Why would the ghosts of dead black people want to hang around in a world which seems to barely tolerate them when they could go to the afterlife which doesn't give a rip about what color they were on Earth? I wouldn't hang around here one second longer than I had to were I in their situation.

I remember a Ren and Stimpy episode had a ghost (of the white sheet variety) come back to life as a naked black man .

    Dear Osman,
As a member of a ethnic group persucuted in the Angry World Of Glenn Beck, you are also privy to power the hatred of the Cult of Fred Sanford. For a small fee of £39.95 a week, I can promise you UNLIMITED POWER? against people who actually passed GSD and OWLS until at least the first half of 2012.

Not as bad (in my humble opinion) as people who like their own comments/statuses on Facebook.

I'm pretty sure that's the reason that Mace Windu doesn't appear as a ghost at the end of Jedi.

You just aren't looking in the right places.
    [image=http://www.angelsghosts.com/sitebuilder/images/myrtles_plantation_ghost_picture_chloe_832-532x337.jpg]
Look closely and you will see Chloe the house slave at the Myrtles Plantation, Saint Francisville, Louisiana.
Some say that Chloe is still there, tending to the house. She's been known to also spook visitors to the Myrtles Bed and Breakfast by tending to them at night...tucking them in and some such.

    The tale is as such:
Chloe was the house slave and mistress of Judge Clark Woodruff. She had a particular penchant for snooping around the Judge's effects and conversations, relaying what she heard to the field slaves outside. If a slave sale were to take place, she would give them the headsup, so they could find a way to keep their families together.
However, one day the Judge caught her listening behind the door to one of his conversations....and as punishment, he cut off her ear, which she kept hidden with a headscarf for the rest of her life.
One day, fearing that she would be cast off as a house slave and into the field, she baked a cake for the judges daughters, containing oleander poison. The plan was to make them sick, then heal them, thus putting her back in the judge's good graces.
However, she used too much oleander, and both of the judges daughters and his wife died.
Overcome with grief, Chloe fled to the field slaves, hoping they would shelter her. However, once she confessed to them what had happened, they lynched her themselves, because they knew the judge would kill anybody who helped her.

Though as a historian I have to point out that the story of Chloe's death is mostly rubbish, as Judge Woodruff who was said to own her at the time only had ONE daughter, instead of the two in the tale. Plus in the year she was said to be lynched, he did not live at the Myrtles anymore but instead at an estate on the outskirts of New Orleans.

I am sure that after a lifetime of being violently compelled into a degrading sort of servitude that refused to even recognize her humanity, the only thing a young black girl would want from the afterlife is an opportunity to keep doing the same menial tasks.

I think its because ghosts only come out in the night, so they have to glow white for us to see them. If they glow black then what's the point?

Or much more likely, this is a story made up by the sort of people who found Martin Luther King Jr to be "uppity" and who raised their children to go "take back the country" from him at local Tea Party rallies.

Since when did haunting a thing become a choice? A lot of the ghost people (as in people that try to 'study' or 'hunt' ghosts, not people that are ghosts) will describe ghosts as being trapped, not that they chose to stay.
The people that think the ghost Chloe is there think that she's there after she poisoned half the family and then was lynched by the rest of the slaves. Soo..... violent/tragic/deadly event that would result in her being trapped there possibly as a punishment? Yeah, that fit's the bill quite well.

Granted, there's no historical evidence that she existed, let alone the rest of that happened.

Insofar as I've ever heard about this pseudoscience, you're correct about the location of haunting. But I've never heard of a story where a ghost had no control over its actions. At best, they're stuck perseverating on their actions/desires at the time of death (searching for a loved one, crying for help, etc). The idea that any slave would elect to continue tucking people into bed and being servile is stupid and offensive.

Or, most likely of all, its a story made up by the sort of people who own a large, old house and want to cash in on gullible tourists.

The Chloe story isn't the only ghost story of the house (they always work to mention the phantom cat that appears as a gray orb when you take a picture of it, and the guy getting shot and falling down the stairs, and the phantom children who run up and down the halls singing nursery rhymes at 2 am) ...it's just the one that has the overly-sanitized "Slaves of our Lives" storyline.

Basically, an adult version of Disney's Haunted Mansion.
