One of the underlying tenets of the jedi order is a respect for life ; the parallels with budhist monks are apparent in their garments, their simplicity, the fact that possession is forbidden ...
    So, are they vegetarians?

I haven't ventured into the EU and it's something I've been wondering about since I was reminded of "Root leaf ; I cook" from the OT DVD's.

does eating bugs count? i think yoda ate bugs on dagoba. oh, but wait, he did eat luke's sausage from his lunchbox. i dont think they are vegetarians. or if so, yoda gave up on it long ago.

They respect life in the fact that if it's not endangering or harming them they won't kill it. If it's dead and cooked then they would eat it.

Besides, what Jedi kid wouldn't want a banthaburger with fries on the sides? :)

Man, the other night I had a dream that me and my best friend got taken to the Star Wars Galaxy to become Jedi. And I'm always teasing him about he can't eat pork(he's Muslim), and pork is my favourite. So in my dream, I was still teasing him about it there, then all of a sudden I realized. "Oh my God, I'm not able to eat pork anymore!!!! I'm going to miss the Bacon Burgers our local firefighters make in the summer."
But it was all good because I found something that tasted very similar.

ps, This could've also gone in one of the dream threads that have been started, but this also pertains to food, so I put it here.

    As a group, no.

I'm guessing that some individual Jedi may be vegetarians. But as a whole, I can't see it. Especially since some species probably are carnivores by nature and CAN'T be vegetarians. And some might be herbivores by nature, and thus are vegetarians and can't eat meat.
